Two weeks to Dead Space 3. I am overwhelmed with anticipation. Countdown... BEGIN!

Too much of my life is dictated by achievements/trophies/milestones, etc. So long as someone sets an arbitrary goal and agrees to hand me some sort of shiny badge upon completion, I would be willing to do just about anything. I fear where this will take me in life.

On the other hand, I can't stop thinking how awesome my tombstone would look if someone carved every achievement I've ever gotten into the marble...

Yeah... suck it other corpses. I'm the biggest BAMF in the cemetery.

There was an article a little while back talking about how people who spend a reasonable amount of time (or a shitload of time, let's be honest here...) occasionally experience a sort of bleeding effect into their real world activities. The example they gave was about a younger gentleman somewhere out in the world who, after dropping something on the floor, automatically responded by twitching his controller finger to pick the item up rather than simply bending over and fetching his dropped belonging from the floor.

Today, I had a similar experience. Wandering around a mall I have never before visited, I was trying to remember which exit I needed to leave from in order to get back to my car. Having spent the past four days playing through Dead Space, my first unconscious reaction was to click R3 which would bring my hand up and a tiny blue line of light would lead me to where I needed to go.

I didn't actually do this, though the entire sequence played out in my mind as I stood trying to remember if I needed to go left or right out of the store I had just exited. Still, it made me think about all the people who felt the need to point out how this article was just another example of how gaming warps people's minds and detaches them from reality. It's not true, of course. A finger twitch or wishing you had a real life in hand navigation system when you can't remember which way to turn after playing a game is no different from being hesitant to turn off the lights after watching a particularly scary movie. Logic tells us that there is no monster hiding under the bed, but the emotional and visceral reactions we experienced while watching the movie or playing the game gives the fiction a bit of weight in reality and, for that split second when action is overshadowed by reaction, sometimes, we go to the fiction first.

I, of course, couldn't help but laugh at myself. If only other people would take my cue and laugh at me too... Not in a mean way... Quit pointing! I'm not crazy! Stop it! Meanie heads! *runs off crying*

I think game developers have the wrong idea when they name the hardest difficult in their games. Superhuman? Veteran? Legendary? All of these names make it seem like you're nigh invincible when the opposite is true when you're actually playing. Instead, they should name it something like "Severe Osteoporosis", because, let's face it, one hit from an enemy with a power level equivalent to a seven year old girl and all the bones in your digital character's body shatter. Hell, they should make a walker and One a Day Vitamins part of your default inventory.

It's not that I don't understand where the naming convention comes from. To beat the game on the highest difficulty requires someone with a certain amount of skill or relentless perseverance, which makes them superhuman, a veteran, or legendary. Still, it would be funnier my way.

After a purposeful trip to Subway this afternoon, I spent almost the entire day playing Uncharted 3 multiplayer. Now, all I can hear is Trisha Helfer's voice saying "Kickback available". I'm sure to dream of it tonight. Of course, Dark Souls comes out Tuesday, so I'll get to play a completely different game where I die constantly. FUN!

      Note to self:

New game idea. George Orwell's Animal Farm-ville... developed by Rockstar Games. It's Facebook's newest big hit, I tell ya.

I think it's a rule that all teenagers, at some point in time, will bemoan how little adults "get them."

Then you get older, and all you can think is "Fucking teenagers..."

It'll happen to you, kids. I promise.

Thanks! It serves the dual purpose of being a picture pun and giving off the vaguely creepy sensation of being continually watched. What more could you ask for?
