That was my last day at my old apartment. Four people living in a small two story apartment. Paying a third of the rent (because one of the others didn't have a job) with my bedroom as my only true living space.

Those days are over! Over, I tell you! I've been in my new place for a month and a half now and I am actually happy. I only have one roommate now, and he actually gives a damn about having a job and being financially stable. I can venture down into the living room now and not be asked why.

I can cook! I don't have to rely on fast food, microwave meals, and ramen to get me through the day. I'm eating 100% healthier and it is showing. I have actual space to call my own. For the first two weeks my roommate had to remind me that this was my place too and I have a say in everything that goes on. It was as if I was in an abusive relationship, but I managed to escape. No really, it felt exactly like that.

My mother invited me via FaceBook (classy!) to the (Re)marriage of her and Doug. There are so many things wrong with this...

I'd like to be able to support her, but Doug is a goddamn parasite. That's all I have to say.

So I went apartment hunting today. I move out of my current place in about a month, and I couldn't be happier.

Two roommates inhabit roughly 90% of the overall space with either themselves or their mass quantity of stuff, but pay a third of the rent. That is definitely NOT the case with this new place. I'll be paying a little over $100 more (because it'll just be two people) but half of the space will be mine, and I'll be living with someone who actually likes to see a clean living space.

      YEAH!

    • My Car Is Toast

My car's transmission axle has gone out. At least, that's what I remember my dad saying. It'll cost $2200 to fix, or I can just get a new car. I'm definitely just going to get a new car.

It's time. I've had that car for about four years now, and I've been thinking about getting rid of it. Of course, that was back when I could get about $1000 for it, but still...

This time I get to pick a car that I want, and not just one that was given to me because they were done with it. No more hand-me-down that has taken repeated trips to Reno, with people that were given permission to put out their cigarettes on the interior.

It's kind of sad though. It's the last thing I had from when my family was complete. I've had a lot of good memories with that car. Now I guess it's time to make some new ones.

My dad turns 50 tomorrow. It's one of those landmark ages that people seem to like. smiley6.gif I had a chat with my dad recently about growing up and growing old. My dad's a smart man, and I take every opportunity I can to learn from him. My grandma tells me I'm becoming more like him every day.

Before I continue, let me give a bit of background on myself. After high school I didn't do much for about three years. I went to college for a year and a half before losing my student loans due to poor grades. I didn't have a real job, nor did I drive, until Summer 2008. I moved out of my parent's house in January of 2011, at the age of 26. Impressive, am I right?

It wasn't until I moved out that I began to understand everything my dad had taught me. All of those chores growing up that I hated, all of the expectations that I didn't think I was ready for, every time I got scolded for doing something wrong. It taught me that sometimes people aren't going to take the initiative so it's my responsibility to take the lead, that sometimes the fear we feel is just of the unknown, and that sometimes you have to pick your battles and set an example.

I told him that I understand why he was so hard on me, and that I feel like an idiot for pushing back and resisting so hard back then. It's a good gift I think. At least, I hope so.

      ...because I'm completely broke. smiley8.gif

    • Halloween

This is the first Halloween without my best friend Slasher71 in probably 8 years. Is it weird? Yeah, it's weird. I went to a co-worker's party and drank too much. I paced myself, and did the math on the earliest time I could drive home. Sometime around 1am was the best time, based on what I remember about alcohol.

I seem to meet some interesting women at these parties. Women that don't drink a lot because they have work early in the morning, but still want to support their friend. It's admirable. Let's face it, it's downright nice. I'm a sucker for nice.

It was the first party in several years where I was told not to worry about buying anything. I did anyway, which I didn't mind. I like to be able to contribute to the festivities, otherwise I feel like a freeloader.

All in all, it was a lot of fun, and I got to meet some pretty interesting women. One in particular. I hope I can see her again.

I forgot to turn off the porch light. The dog was barking downstairs, and I keep forgetting what day it is.

To the days until Halo Anniversary? Oh yeah, and every other game in the entire universe that comes out at around that time? I already have Arkham City in my PS3. Uncharted 3, Dynasty Warriors 7 Xtreme Legends, the previously mentioned Halo. I'm not buying Skyrim, but I do want to see it. Oh, The Old Republic too. Music-wise, I have Slipknot's Iowa 10th Anniversary album to get, the new Florence + the Machine comes out on the 1st, and a bunch of stuff I know I'm forgetting.

It's a good thing I got the promotion and raise. This is going to be a busy Q4 / Q1.

No money and no internet make MisterAnnwyl something something...

A lot has happened in the last month. The guy I wrote about a couple of journals ago got fired FINALLY. For two hours he was in the office with various levels of manager being read from a short story-sized list of examples of gross incompetence. We also lost five others either because they found a new job or they were promoted and transferred. Unfortunately, our Store Manager was one of the five, so we don't have one of those right now.

One of my roommates decided to quit his job and go back to school. He's only taking one class, and didn't bother looking for a part-time job to at least pay his share of the rent. Money-wise we're struggling, and of the five people that live here, only three are willing to put in more than the minimum to make sure we keep the same standard of living. Only two actually have the means to do so.

I also got promoted. Pay increase, more hours, and a position they created specifically to find people to be Managers. I am now a Sales Consultant, and it comes with a spiffy new shirt and a buttload of extra responsibility. Bring it!

If I go to Paris and I want to blend in, all I need to do is carry bread around. Right? I was watching Taken last night and on three separate occasions there were different people with bread.

I need to research this further...
