    • RTX - A Bummer

I'm bummed I'm not going to RTX this year but considering that I'm getting engaged (assuming she says yes) on the 9th and then sitting for the state bar exam on the 29th and 30th, I guess my July was already pretty packed. Here's to hoping I can introduce my soon to be fiancee to RT soon and bring her to Austin next summer.

      Cheers,

So, just for the record, if you are planning on writing a 40 pg thesis and two 15-page policy papers as well as planning a large conference 1000 miles from your home all in the same semester - kill yourself. I might be the most stressed I've ever been in my life. I just need to make it to March 25 and then I can breath easier. Just breathe....

      Peace

    • Probably no RTX for me this year...

I was recently asked to begin serving as a commissioner for the American Bar Association's Commission on Disability Rights in a few months. I'm honored and it is a big deal but it requires a lot of travel during the next year. In the next 18 months or so I will be traveling to Washington, DC multiple times, Chicago twice, San Francisco twice, Boston, New Orleans, and Los Angeles. I believe there is a trip to Vegas in there somewhere too. Just doesn't look like a trip to Austin is in the cards for me on top of all that. If the scheduling works out and I am alive, I might try to attend but I'm not counting on it.

Sucks to be sure but the opportunities I'm going to have as a commissioner are going to be outstanding. I get to influence disability policy within my chosen profession and get to know many attorneys across the country. That can only be good for me, professionally.

I don't know why I can't seem to post more here since I love RT and AH. Life seems to get in the way of the fun stuff. On the bright side, my weight loss continues. I've managed to go from 225 to 185 since late august/early september. If you are interested, you can check out my transformation video I did about the 12 week mark. I hope to do another around 165 or 155 lbs.

In other news, I am planning on attending RTX this year. I'll be buying my ticket on Monday and figuring out my flight and hotel sometime soon too. I'll be living in DC again this summer so I plan on flying from there to Austin for the event. I'm looking forward to finally meeting some of the other fans and employees that make RT so awesome.

    • I've lost nearly 25 lbs in 8 weeks

So I haven't posted much lately. I've been busy with school and work and with my new weight loss regimen. On August 27 I decided to finally get serious about my weight and health. Since that date I have gone from 225 lbs to 202 lbs. Keep in mind I am only 5'6" so 225 is pretty hefty.

In order to get back down to a healthy weight I cut out soda and nearly all liquid calories entirely. Additionally I keep track of my calories each day using an app on my iPhone called MyFitnessPal. I maintain a 1000 calorie deficit in order to get about 2 lbs of loss per week. I adjust my daily calorie intact based on how active I am so as not to run my body into the ground.

My workouts have been fairly intense. I have been doing p90x and including a lot more walking in my life. I try to make sure I walk at least 10,000 steps every day. I purchased a fitbit in order to keep track and it has been integral in my weight loss. It helps that I sold my car before law school so I do a lot of walking anyway. Additionally, I moved my treadmill to the basement so I can walk while watching tv and playing xbox games. Not gonna lie, walking while playing COD is pretty tough but I love getting a little extra exercise while I relax.

All that said, the most important part of my weight loss journey has been my use of youtube. Each week I upload an update video with information about my progress. Doing so has served to keep me honest and push me to keep losing weight. Please feel free to peruse my videos here:

My channel name is PatrickOnAMission and I upload a new video every monday night (pacific time). I invite you to watch my videos, offer advice, ask questions. I hope they can serve as a little inspiration for you to meet your own health goals.

      Cheers,

Well, I finally got 100% on a game. Sadly, it was Madden 2006. I don't feel particularly accomplished but at least I can say I "perfected" a game. I'm hoping to get 100% in each of the Mass Effect games soonish so that will be slightly more impressive feat.

      Cheers,

Mixed bag morning - 1) Lost 6.2 lbs since last weight check. Good! 2) Chopped off beard and found large collection of grey hair mixed in with the rest of colors. Bad!

      Hey everyone,

I figured with the number of RT fans out there, that there must be other law students and lawyers on the site. As far as I know, I haven't run across any yet but I think it would be great for us to come together to collectively debate, complain and whatnot. RT law people shout out!

I got 19 positive mods on a comment I made about Burnie's hovercraft. Umm, go me?

Actually, that is really awesome. I'm not nearly as active on here as I'd like to be so it feels good to know I'm at least entertaining people with my limited posting.

      Cheers,

Paper was about looking at the Russian Expansion into Alaska through a setter colonialism framework. Don't know if it was any good, but I 'm donezo! I already have two of my grades so I've been ready to be finished for a while.

Sorry I fell off, there. Finals indeed. I was taking my property exam for 5 hours today. Uggo! I would kill to be able to check out some old Roman sites. Someday I'll get overseas and do some exploring. For now, though, grinding my brain into a fine powder.

I was more American History, but I've always loved the classics. Did the whole latin in high school bit. Got to do some archaeology on a Roman site in Portugal during my study abroad Junior year.

Yup Anthro and history double major. And museum anthropology is a weird intense year. But will be made worth it when I finally get a job. You're in law school right? Where? One of my best friends is at Duke Law right now just finishing up her first year. She is JD/MA.

Saw you in the comments of the college stories thread and had to tell you that I seriously love your angry little pink dude. Your art work or someone else's? Grad school is also cutting into my game time so I feel your pain.
