Some interesting things I have read throughout the day:

      > Consumer confidence unexpectedly improves in September...

      > More than 1,100 arrested in California immigration sweep...

      > VIDEO: Obama Kids Sing for Dear Leader...

      > McCain says Obama policies will deepen recession...

      > You watch 24 users, while 24 watch you.

      > Nobel literature chief: US writing too 'insular' to compete...

      > NASA: IT SNOWS ON MARS!

      > Euro Declines Most Against Dollar Since Inception...

      > John Edathil knows when it's time to go home

      > How I Met Your Mother: The Best Burger in New York

      > Windshield GPS mounting legalized again in California

      > AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack on Nov. 2 at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club

      > The ION Drum Thread

Okay... maybe more of a peek into my surfing habits than headlines. Boring? Maybe... but apparently 24 of you watch me so I must have, albeit occasionally, interesting things to say.

One of the more interesting training exercises I am having to do centers around building more fast twitch fibers in my leg and arm muscles. Since my coach believes I am relatively strong enough at this point (one month before the NAC), building more speed is essential.

So I set a clock for 10s, place myself about 2 meters from the target dummy, and lunge full force at it; afterward, fully recovering. Repeat. So far I am up to 10 valid hits in 10s.

I'd like to get up to 12 in 2 weeks. I realize there's an upper limit here, but 12-13 doesn't seem all that unreasonable.

      We shall see.

    • What is going on?!?!?

      NO_YES

Lots has happened in the last couple of weeks!

--Tom and I confirmed our trip to the North American Cup fencing tournament. We'll be in Columbus, OH from 10/08-10/14. This begs the question: What the hell am I going to do in Ohio for 6 days? In addition, I feel like I'm getting to know the mid-west better and better (you mean there's stuff between CA and NY?!?!?!?).

--I am an expert drummer in Rock Band. Not the biggest news, but a small personal achievement.

--Amy visited for my roommate's gong away party. ALWAYS good to have the sister in town.

--We have to start looking for a new roommate. Any takers?

--My subscription to Make Magazine has inspired many DIY projects including a microscope made of old webcams and a wearable fireball shooter. Can you guess which is being made first?

There's a lot more, but I don't want to tax your eyes reading. Have a great weekend!

    • Stronger, Older, Wiser

      NO_YES

Getting older means a few things:

      1) A kinder, gentler me: I was thrown out of the bar last night for no apparent reason. Wisdom provided me powers of introspection and allowed me to determine I was not going to talk/fight/trick my way out of the situation. It was getting close to time to leave anyway. Message me if you'd like to know more details. Oh, happy birthday Dave.

      2) In spite of my immense hangover, I am physically incapable of sleeping in past 10A.

      3) Youth is overrated. I'm pretty sure I say that because I am bitter older. I think about that weird awkward guy I was at 20 and thank my lucky stars over how much more awesome, cunning, and wise I am. Juxtapose that guy with me today and you wouldn't know you were looking at the same person. 8 years can change a person a lot.

What do you think you have learned about yourself as you age?

No, they cost money, and I'm trying to save as much as possible. There are lots of places I'd love to go, but, oh well. I really just want to get a job at Wells Fargo and get some work in before school starts.

It wasn't her, it was everyone else. She probably would have come over if I said, "Fuck everyone else, let's just dance around in my room in front of the mirror like we did when we were 11," but I was trying to work out other plans, since the dance party thing flopped.

    • KittensMcGee

I'm glad I made you laugh!

Alex and I had wanted to have a dance party, but all our friends suck, so I was just in front of my lappy, playing Britney Spears and dancing...alone. But I decided it was such a good time, I would take a picture and bring the world some joy.

I don't own an Apple Computer. My enthusiasm is based on the iPhone, which is hands down the best phone I've ever owned. I like their approach to software and their customer support. If I buy a PC, it's junk in 3 years. If I buy a Mac, i've got a good computer for much longer.

Late. I was roused from my sleep to play Uno on Xbox Live. So I did, at least as much as my 360 would allow me to, frequently kicking me off.

Hey, I was browsing around the forum for people who fence, and I saw your profile, and a couple of others, and wanted to get all the help I could get.

So would you mind giving an SCA fencing newbie some tips?

The Improv is cool, The Tech Museum is fun, but it's sortof targeted to little kids and a lot of the stuff doesn't work. The Rosicrucian Museum is very interesting, if you are interested in Ancient Egypt type things. There is a hookah lounge (perhaps more than one?) that I know of as well as some nice club type things. Downtown is full of cool things, but driving around it is a bitch.

Oh my goodness!!!! That's still one of my favorite Trek lines ever!! When I turned 19 I asked for a Star Trek themed cake and the cake lady tried to draw the Enterprise. It looked so hilarious, it was probably one of my favorite cakes ever.

I feel that he should go out with a bang since his life was rather unremarkable due to his lack of patience and drive.

    • KittensMcGee

For sure. He should definitely just throw himself out the nearest airlock.

    • KittensMcGee

True. He may have been unfairly singled out, but he was also sort of lame. He took the easy way out. What a pussy.

    • KittensMcGee

      Wow, that was pretty cryptic.

    • KittensMcGee

      Yikes. That's too bad.

So what's this leap, eh? I'm curious.

    • KittensMcGee

I used his expression in a facetious manner, but I suppose "tone" is lost over the internet. I would have to be well informed as to the nature of the "leap" before I could lend an opinion regarding it which I could feel confident in giving. I don't like to give inappropriately informed advice.

      How is Dan anyhow?

    • KittensMcGee

It's actually the same price. My school is a money grubber. But it's also a JC, so I probably shouldn't be complaining about the price.

The art class is actually a "survey of the arts" type class because I'm not into having to draw something and have someone else tell me whether or not it's any good. I know it won't be, because I'm not any good at art which is why I'm going for a BS. I think the formal title of the class I'm taking is "An introduction to World Art" or something. It's kind of like an art history class, I suppose.

    • KittensMcGee

As a sister of a rambunctious brother, I can say that it would have been futile. You guys should try drunken Cranium or Jenga. It's probably safer and just as fun. I can hear you saying that it is not manly enough, to which I preemptively respond, only if you fail to make it so.

Good thing about the masks. Hopefully it's well enough ingrained that you don't forget one night and wake up minus an eye. Or a...nose?

In regards to ruling...well at least you remembered masks. So that's something. =)
