      Rules:
      * Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
      * Turn to page 56.
      * Find the fifth sentence.
      * Post that sentence along with these instructions in a journal entry, and post your sentence in a comment here as well.
      * Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual.

Mine: "Now, the process of adjustment would be quite long this time, and suppose that before his eyes had settled down and while he wasn't seeing well, he had once again to compete against those same old prisoners at identifying those shadows."

This is from my book Plato Selected Myths and the quote itself is from the Republic.

So I don't know if any of you have heard but a few days ago the southwestern portion of ohio got hit with a windstorm. No rain. No hail or sleet. Only wind.

I'm serious too, wind is the only thing we were experiencing (I think it was the leftovers of one of those hurricanes). Well here's the kicker: we were getting wind that averaged at about 60 to 65 mph and the record high for the day was 85. Never in the history of my town has a windstorm that powerful hit us.

So nearly the entire city lost power for over 24 hours. My house and the houses of several people I know are back online but about half the city's still out.

The weirdest part about all of this is considering that mass of damage I didn't see any of it happen. I was out the entire day that it was happening and even though whole trees had fallen I saw none of it actually happen. Wind is the sneakiest natural disaster ever, it's like natures ninja.

I'm a bum again! Hooray! (I quit my job, today was my last day). On the one hand I no longer have an income, on the other hand, fuck my income! I no longer have any responsibility! (until sep. 21 rolls around and then I'm off to college).

Also, I'm signed up for fall quarter at OSU. However, the thing about The Ohio State University is that they have one of, if not the latest start time of all Ohio colleges. So many of my friends have either left for their college already or have returned to high school and are no longer able to hang out much. This leaves me in this strange limbo where most all of my friends are so very close but just out of reach. Oh well, I can bum around this last summer month of mine.

I acquired and beat Civilization Revolution recently. The game was alot of fun however I'm kind of disappointed that after you acquire one victory you're suddenly unable to go back to your civilization. I invested alot of time into my kingdom and it is severely aggravating that once I win I can't go back and continue to improve it. But still I enjoyed it.

Lastly, it turns out my girlfriend has started this thing where she loves to make homemade jelly, I never knew jelly could taste so good. I've been finding ways to include toast in every meal. It is awesome.

      Well, until another time folks!

so if you read this journal you should be glad to know that i'm fine and nothing bad happened.

I took a video of the whole thing and I'll try to get some screenshots of it to post on here for y'all but I make no promises.

So I'm going skydiving within three hours. I'm kind of excited, very anxious and all that good stuff. Mostly I'm hoping everything works out well. So if you see no more journals for a long time something terrible may have happened.

    • Barely Legal Baby!

      Nicktheman

So I just had my eighteenth birthday and i'm really excited about it. Granted I can no longer get in fights with a few people since now it would be an assault and battery charge on my legally adult record, but now i can do fun things like... like... oh crap i still can't do any good stuff.

Still I'm happy. Sure I don't smoke and granted the only foreseeable new feature of my survival rate is that Uncle Sam could haul my ass off to war if he deems fit I'm gonna stay positive.

It's been fun so far. The night before my birthday my friends and I hung out and waited til midnight at which I went to a gas station and bought a pack of cigarettes (Unfortunately my deep love I hold for my lungs kept me from doing anything with them and ultimately my friend cody ended up getting a full free pack of smokes out of the trip).

The next day I had my party. My friends girlfriend, Katie, got me a flail. Like an actual medieval-era, ball-and-chain flail. A real one too made from heavy iron. Keith, the friend dating the awesomeness that is Katie, got me a University of Michigan shot glass, I may smash it with a flail (if you didnt know UM is Ohio States bitter rivals, it's like the oldest college rivalry in the USA's history and UM can go suck a cock). The flail is really old though so I may get my dad to help me repair it... not that I need to repair it... because I'm not going to do anything with it....

      Clever Distraction!

Now that you've forgotten about the possible crime in place, onward!

Family birthday party tomorrow, I'll probably just get cash.

Lastly, I'm going to see The Dark Knight in about two hours, i'm so excited I might soil myself.

      Tchus!

    • I need to journal more...

      Nicktheman

      ... Seriously, i really do.

Ah well, one of the brightsides to avoiding popularity is that i don't have to entertain you people.

Well i'm too lazy to write down all the details of my life so here's the short points that are important:

      1. I graduated, woot! (also i'm not 18 yet, so i have this month long window where i can't go to real prison but also i can't get expelled, i'm thinking about doing something big)

      2. Since i no longer have to obey school rules i stopped shaving, turns out i look pretty good with scruff on my face. Once again laziness has proven a valuable friend.

      3. FINALLY got to play brawl, it is not describable in human tongue, rest assured i enjoyed myself while playing.

      4. Got a laptop from my dad, it's nice too. Even came with spy sweeper, an antivirus program and microsoft office 2007 put on it by the folks at best buy. Unfortunately the spy sweeper will now not start up, i think thats a bad sign.

      5. That's all!

    • I'm short a pint of blood

      Nicktheman

So I gave blood today at the local community college that i go to, someone once described to me that getting drained of blood was an odd sensation, like being made lighter. He was full o' shit. I didn't feel any different afterwards so unless he donated six times the allowable amount he's way too overdramatic.

I did it half for the free cookies and juice, they were delicious. And i got to listen to the interesting stories of the old nurse giving me the delicious cookies, so it was a good experience.

Also in a few weeks i get to find out not only my bloodtype but also if i have gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis or AIDS! Hooray for me! (I'm fairly positive i have none of those for anyone not picking up on the sarcasm)

On a sidenote, when you wear that "I gave blood" sticker, people treat you nicer. It's like by letting a nurse drive a needle into my flesh and drain the life blood from my arm to assist some people i will never see and don't care too terribly much for i'm suddenly a better person. No one remembers those jokes I made about Helen Keller anymore, I gave blood!

that's an old joke. the professor walks in and the final just says "why?" so people start scribbling their essays, but there's one kid who writes for about 5 seconds, turns in his paper, and gets an A. his answer? "Why not?"

i seriously doubt that it ever happened, but it's a good little joke.

I think their called Ice Dwarf Planets. Well yes I see your point. The Greeks sure didn't find them worth the time and they got Pluto kicked out of the club. Man those two are jerks. I think i'll name them Bob and Jeff. They don't get fancy names.

    • Apache64

Did they really say that? I forgot what they are calling the new class that Pluto and the two or so newer ones are in. I suppose it is scientifically accurate, however, just changing it like that all of a sudden is sort of odd and annoying. I think I also read something about some of these smaller objects being discovered a long time ago. So if the information was around for all this time why change it now?

Actually, that theory goes a long way toward explaining a lot more than just poor driving. I'll go with your answer.

    • Apache64

So your saying i'm supposed to lift the wall, with my one arm, and hit the dinosaurs with it? In an effert to make them either drop my arm or at this point puke it up?

    • Osaka

Either that or because of the crowded and ill-designed city driving conditions, people become more aggressive and opportunistic drivers. That seems to be the case with Seattle.

    • Osaka

You certainly hear a hell of a lot about the places where people don't, but I've never heard anyone refer to us specifically for being good drivers. I'll take it, though, lol. Unless you're in Seattle - or Eastern Washington. Good lord.

    • Osaka

It is. We have a lot of trees and plants everywhere, very green, lots of places to walk and such, beautiful water view from some places... I recommend checking out the Western side of the mountains. There isn't much to see in Eastern Washington unless you like rocky things and wheat fields. Of course if your route in were to take you through the river gorge, you'd find that lovely too.
