For a while now, I have a burned copy of Windows 7 Professional with an official license key, which I downloaded from my school's software store for free, since I'm in a computer major.

However, there are files on my pc that I don't want to lose, so I recently bought a 250GB External Hard Drive from Amazon. I'm currently transferring my video files. Go some videos I captured with my Pinnacle MovieBox that I have not uploaded to youtube, unfinished Sony vegas projects that may or may not see the light of day, and some tv series that I felt deserved to be on my pc instead of it existing on Hulu, with all its advertisement that feels the need to interrupt me every ten minutes.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to the new experience.I'd be lying I said I'm not going to miss Vista, since I've gotten so used to it, flaws and all.

Still, I look forward to having more space on my hard drive once vista is uninstalled and replaced with Windows 7.

      Mass Effect
STFU about Mass Effect already Walter

You shut up, its my journal.

Anyways, I've taken an interest in finding out why Mordin sometimes dies during the final mission, despite having everyone's loyalty.

When you make the decision to take two team members with you while you leave everyone behind to hold the door, THE PEOPLE YOU LEAVE BEHIND DETERMINE WHETHER SOMEONE DIES OR NOT.
In other words, you leave behind people whom can hold off against overwhelming odds. Grunts is a good choice, since hes an Uber Krogan. Garrus held off against three merc groups on Omega for days. And Zaeed survived a shot to the head and lived. :D
Squishy characters are poor choices to leave behind. Mordin happens to be one of them, since he's a scientist first, a combatant second. Tali is a quarian engineer, so she is a poor choice to leave behind too. You can get away with taking one of these soldier characters to fight the Human-Reaper, but doing so minimizes the chances of everybody living.

Somehow, that is how I based my choices on during my first play through, but then afterwards, I didn't think it mattered who you left behind to hold the line.

Did I ever mentioned on how I planned to keep my first ME2 playthrough with all the choices I made, good ones and bad ones? Well, I intended to keep it, even if characters ended up dying. Its was my way of giving myself a reason to care about what choices I made, and to be mindful of their consequences. The only regret I had was that Tali got exiled. I don't know what will happen in ME3 due to that decision, but I'll wait and see. Same with being unloyal to Ashley, but fuck her, she's a bitch.

    • Not Altruism

So my mother's Birthday is today, and My father's birthday is coming up in two days. So rather than getting a gimmicky, humorous gift card for my mother, I decided to take her, and my family to a restaurant my mother has been wanting to go to for a long time: Olive Garden.

My Checking Account feels lighter, but it was worth it.

So this should mean that I believe in Altruism, the moral virtue of being selfless and giving up my own self -interest for the sake of others...Yeah right.

If anything, to me, Altruism is when other human beings look down upon you because you care about your own self more than others.

I did this out of my own self-interest. The satisfaction I get from treating my own family to a meal, to spend time with them is my reward.

I just decided to add that last bit so you understand my motivations for doing things that are considered kind.

    • Mass Effect 2: My anti-drug

      Nitro288

Its pretty obvious that I have an addiction to Mass Effect 2. Its all I've been playing since the week it was released, of course, with a little Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo thrown in here and there. Ever since I started my third Playthrough, I only play on Hardcore difficulty. Strange, since my first two playthroughs were with a Soldier and Sentinel, character classes that are supposed to be easier to use on higher difficulties.

Currently, I'm playing as an Imported Paragon Female Shepard, whom has a strong interest in pursuing a romance with Archangel, and is an Infiltrator.
And since creating a decent looking Female Shepard is too time consuming for me, I used the code from this Female Shepard as a template for her appearance. Of course, the hair is just a mod for the PC version, so I had to do some work myself.

      My previous playthroughs were:
-New Renegade Shepard whom Romanced Jack, and was an Adept
      - New Renegade Female Shepard whom Romanced Thane, and was a Vanguard

Apparently, Its very difficult for me to stick to one path. The only reason I was able to Max out my Paragon Score on my first two playthroughs were because I imported a Mass Effect 1 Shepard, so I received the bonus points to my Renegade and Paragon bar. I need to go through Mass Effect 2 as a Renegade on my next playthrough, since I missed out on a certain dialogue option in the game.
Its during the Tali and Legion Fight. I need to see what Shepard says to Tali in order to get her loyalty back after siding with Legion, and what Shepard says to Legion if he/she sides with Tali. I've already seen what Shepard says to Legion via the Renegade persuasion. I tried with Tali, but apparently, you need a higher Renegade or Paragon score to get her loyalty back. I've tried to look for the video that details the post-conflict conversations with Legion and Tali on youtube...no one posted it up yet. :(

Oh, and I've recently received a Financial Aid grant of $2000. I plan on only using $300 of that amount as spending money.

      Games that interest me:
      - BioShock 2
      - Battlefield Bad Company 2
      - Dragon Age: Origins

Oh, the things that get cut...assuming this source is accurate. Would have been one hell of a way for people that didn't import Mass Effect 1 to make the ME1 decisions for ME2.

After Shepard died. you would have been able to play the beginning of the game as Legion. Legion boards a Frigate owned by the Shadow Broker, but around the same time, Liara does the same thing. When they both meet, Liara and Legion have this mexican stand off, before they both eventually agree to work together to retrieve Shepard's body. In their time together, Legion would ask Liara questions about what choices Shepard made in Mass Effect 1.

In order to ensure that Shepard's body does not fall apart when getting it into Liara's containment field on her ship, Legion removed Shepard's N7 armor. Then, he get shot, and Liara abandons Legion.'

Later, very early on in the game, Shepard would have gotten a distress call about the ship Legion was on, giving the player the chance to recruit Legion very early.

Sometimes cool ideas are just too awesome for the world to handle.

Oh, and some dude decided to make a ME2 Launch Trailer featuring a custom made Female Shepard. The only problem I have with the trailer is how it kinda spoils who one of the recruitable party member is.

If you finished Mass Effect 2, Highlight the text below this. This is Mass Effect 2 SPOILER.
Apparently, some some people met Liara on Illium, they assumed the worst and didn't bother to try and fill in the blanks as to why Liara is the way she is. This video make help explain everything.

Anybody who romanced her in ME1, you should feel guilty if you decided to pursue another relationship in ME2. Good thing Ortin Shepard(first imported Shepard) was originally with Ashley, and Damon Shepard(second imported Shepard) is staying loyal to Liara.

      Nitro288

Some plot spoilers here and there about the decisions I made in my Mass Effect story playing as Ortin Shepard, but I'll try to put a title that matches said spoiler.

I would love it if you guys made a journal about the decisions you made in your Mass Effect Career...assuming you all imported your version of Shepard from Mass Effect 1 and plans on using your Shepard in Mass Effect 2 and 3.

      Name: Ortin Shepard

      Origin: Earthborn, Sole Survivor

      Mass Effect 1 Decisions
Morality: Mostly Paragon, with Maxed out Intimidation skills.

      Noveria:
When presented with the option of saving the rachni queen or killing her, I chose to save her, reasoning that the Rachnis could be valuable allies in my fight against the Reapers. Mass Effect 2 teased me about the Rachni Queen's status, revealing that she is doing good on her promise, and even promises to be on my side when I take on the Reapers in the future. :D

      Feros:
Given the option to spare or execute the asari, I spared her. Not like there was a point in killing her since she was more useful alive, helping rebuild Feros. Aside from a Side quest in Mass Effect 2, there was nothing important.

      Virmire:
Kaiden dies, Ashley lives. Gonna miss that Sentinal.

      Endgame-Mass Effect 1:
The council died, and a new council was formed with Anderson as the human rep. Kinda regret this decision after finding out that the new council was 10 times more retarded in Mass Effect 2.

      Mass Effect 2 Decisions
Morality= More Paragon than Renegade, but about 80% of the conversations I had, I used the Renegade Persuasion option.

      Romance Sub plot:
In my Mass Effect 1 playthrough, I romanced with Ashley Williams. When I imported my Mass Effect 1 Shepard to Mass Effect 2, Ashley got pissed and moody when we met on Horizon, which made me question why I ever bothered with her. I decided to do a Romance with Tali when she did that, since Tali was really the character I would have romanced with in Mass Effect 1 if given the option...and if she wasn't on her pilgrimage.

      Archangel Loyalty:
No way was I letting Garrus's former teammate and traitor get away. Why was the option to warn him off even there in the first place?!

      Tali Loyalty:
Upon Tali's request, I chose not to expose her fathers work. Since I didn't have a high enough Renegade or Paragon points to convince the Migrant Fleet Admirals to drop the charges, Tali was Exiled from the Fleet. I find it likely that she may be able to find something of value to convince them to bring her back.

      Grunt Loyalty:
Grunt is now Urdnot Grunt. sweet. So I got Rachni, and Clan Urdnot on my side. Lets see how my list of allies increases.

      Jack Loyalty:
Completed, convinced Jack to spare the man in her cell.

      Samara Loyalty:
      Completed.
TIP FOR SAMARA: Better have your Paragon or Renegade points high, cause this requires persuasion. Avoid the conversations "FAMILY" and "JUSTICAR".

      Mordin Loyalty:
I didn't stop Mordin from shooting his friend, noticed the Paragon icon too late. I told Mordin to keep the copy of the Genophage Cure Research Notes to himself. Reason for this decision is that the Krogans are evolving and adapting to the Genophage, so a cure isn't needed. Also, should the Rachni Queen betray me, that data can allow the Krogans to reproduce faster and destroy the Rachni Queen. I doubt it will come to this, but its best to be cautious.

      Thane Loyalty:
Captain Bailey only gave Thane's son community service as punishment for attempted murder.

      Miranda Loyalty:
Miranda didn't kill the friend that betrayed her, and decided to completely cut herself out of her sister's life. So sad.

      Jacob Loyalty:
His father is locked away at an alliance prison.

      Zaeed Loyalty:
      Success. Don't like Zaeed though.

      Legion Loyalty:
I chose to spread his virus, so all "Heretic" Geth now has thinking logic like his. Great, now we can add the Geth to the list of allies I may have in the future.

      Endgame-Mass Effect 2:
The suicide mission required some fancy and tactical coodination. Here is how I broke down my team:

      -Phase One

      Vent Crawler= Legion
      First Squad Leader= Miranda

      -Saving Normandy Staff
      Crew Escort= Thane

      -Phase Two
      Biotic Barrier= Samara
      Second Squad Leader= Garrus

      -Phase Three
Squadmates for the Final Battle= Tali and Legion

At the end, the Illusive Man wanted me to detonate a Radiation Pulse. My response was a big fuck you to the Illusive Man: I destroyed the Collectors Base. If you shoot a man, the only way to ensure he is dead is to cut off his head. I felt justified in destroying the base, just to make sure they stayed dead.
Everyone in my crew lived to fight another day.

      OMFG!!!

It'll take a while for me to process the awesomeness of this game. And those 20 hours of gaining my team's loyalty and ship upgrades really paid off when I did the Suicide Mission. Me and my team all survived.

It'll be a while before another video game makes me give a damn about what happens to the characters.

I've been putting this journal off for a while, and seeing as Heroes isn't going to be on until 30 minutes from now, I might as well do it now.

Here's a list of recent events (and observations).

      - My Grandmother and cousin from Costa Rica recently came on vacation here in the US, and are currently guests in my home.

      - An old lady my mother used to get paid to care for recently passed away, on January 5th.

      - Two days before she was taken off life support, I was there on a visit. I took note of how my family and I are expecting this lady to die in two days, while on that day, more than a thousand people died due to some accident in Latin America.

      - I was asked by the old lady's husband to be one of the six people to carry her coffin to its final resting place during her funeral. I did. I'm proud to have been chosen for this job.

Yeah, I've been thinking about death more recently than before. Being a non-theist gives you different insight towards what happens after death, but when it comes to death itself, I agree with Theists on this: its the end of suffering in this life.
