You know, just living life. I don't know if anything all that exciting as happened in the past year or so. Dealing with my senior year in high school, and everything that entails.

I would need a photo to go off of, of course. smile.png

Yeah, I'm mostly the same. I did art in year 11 and 12, but I've vastly imporved since then with trial and error. The sculpting I started last year and lucked out. I've always drawn.

Hah. Say that when/if it's finished. At least the skull's more or less done. Having a mini skull is cool too and I learned a lot about mammalian anatomy. I'll try get it done...it's easier if you don't stress about it. It'd be good, but it's no biggie if I don't finish it.

      Bones are frickin complicated.

The main talent I went to school with (afore mentioned friend) can do anything from wood, to paint, to photography and media. Pencils and modelling are probably the only things I'm better at. I'm comfortable with that.

    • Derrison

Awesome. I'm just fitting the jaw now. The rest of the skeleton should be okay, but that's a LOT of bones. At LEAST 120 by rough count and at least 40 of them need wire cores. Not gonna rush. I'll make a bone or two a day for awhile.

    • Derrison

I tend to just spend time on one, more or less finish it...then move onto the next. I'm trying to make a mini animal skeleton myself. Just put the top half of the skull into the oven. *crosses fingers*

Portfolios depend on what you want them for. I'm actually trying to get into computer animation, so I'm trying to put in as much variety as possible so my lack of current experience wouldn't exclude me. to get into art school my friend (successful applicant) said they like to see works in progress and sometimes even failed works. It really depend on the school though.
Not sure about them for jobs.

With charcoal try different tones. You can get thin sticks of willow charcoal in light medium and dark. Compressed is harder to work with and very dark. It's better to work with in bigger pictures.

Try drawing shiny things with pencils if you want to get into a more precise style.

yeah, but I mostly just use water for blending or smoothing colours (except with inktense) just a small pot of water, and make sure you clean the brush just like with paint. If you're gonna use a lot of water, pre-streched paper or heavy watercolour paper is best otherwise the water will warp it. I suppose that's the same with inks. It's been years since I last used them.

    • Derrison

I use watercolour pencils for the most part, so heavy, coarse grained watercolour paper. I like the rough look. The new orangutan pic I posted isn't watercolour, it was me trying out a new kind of pencil.
My favourites are faber castell's albrecht durer water colour pencils. Other than that I use derwent inktense for drawings that look like watercolour paintings and for silk painting, I used coloursoft for the orangutan and I occasionally use their standard watercolours, graphitint and tinted charcoal.

Pencil is my main thing. I sometimes use fineliners, very rarely paint. You don't wanna know how much I've spent on pencils over the last three years.

Hmm...with coloured pencil I tend to prefer to work on coloured paper, but white is okay too. Put down a dodgy base colour and build up from there. Whether you start with dark or light depends on the pencils. I tend to move between. If you do use coloured pencil, try a few colours on the back so you know what colour they'll end up as. Making a colour chart helps too sometimes. They're not always the same colour as advertised.

Ahh I see. I also see my brother covered the picture thing lol. And yeah there are six of them. That get well card sounds like a totally awesome idea. That shows so much thought and time going into it. That would really be great. Thank you so much for that. It means more than you know.

Awesome mate. I just got my Eagle, I was never big into OA because it's not prevalent in my area, but I made it to Brotherhood, and am in a different honor society.

It's cool to see some pride there.

I became really active last year as an assistant Scout Master, but I've been too busy with school and work to get involved lately. The kids just take a lot of work and energy out of you, I'll probably go back when I'm out of college.

      Thanks for the drawing!

Oh, I totally saw them in the thread. Fucking amazing.

Oh, and I would totally sponsor you, picture or not except I haven't sponsored myself since like... my first account. Which was a good four years ago. And I totally don't have money. Fucking sucks. I got KWeirso to sponsor this account after whining for a bit lol.

Also, I've been Craig's List surfing and found a job offer that's legit and awesome. I emailed and they responded asking for my contact info so they could phone me. I'm hoping like hell I get this job. It's artsy, and it's $5-700 a week. So, I kill anyone who comes along with real qualifications and I'm golden.
