I sure do miss the days when I would be on this site all day talking about grifball and other random shit. Damn, how things have changed.

You seemed to have the same thought process as I do now, so I'm not saying that I'll never become a religious person; however, it is very unlikely. I kind of exaggerated a little bit in my previous comment/message when I said that both of my parents were overly-religious, and for that I apologize. My mom, is actually very humorous about some of the stuff we talk about with regards to religion, making me wonder why she is not agnostic. Honestly, she claims to be Christian, but if you'd hear some of the stuff she says to me, you would probably think that she is just a skeptical person (such as me) who simply labels themselves as "Christian" in order to fit in with society (unlike me). My dad on the other hand, is where the overly-religious part comes in, which can most likely be attributed to his strict Christian parents who most likely did not allow for him to freely think whenever he was a child. Why am I telling you this? Well, going back to the whole concept of me becoming a preacher, she sometimes jokes (or maybe she's being serious, I don't really know) about me becoming a preacher whenever I'm older. Kind of funny huh, even though I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that I am part of an indoctrination process that torments the minds of little children. Why am I telling you this? I guess it was fair for me to tell a little bit of my life story, simply because you were kind enough to share some of yours with me.

I'm not in any way a nerd who researches this stuff for hours on end, and to be honest I'm not even really that intelligent. I'm just an average student in school, who if you saw at the gym, movies, or any other public place, would never expect that I go home and have this anti-religion side to me that compels me to
go online and challenge people to open their mind. I'm quite nice person who gets along with most people in my school, and I pride myself on that. I'm not someone who smokes pot and drinks alcohol all week like many people my age, only to go pray away my wrongdoings in church either. People who do that are the kind of Christians I cannot stand, and I think you'd agree that they are a discredit to your religion.

Thank you for your consideration, as you mentioned at the end of your response that you prayed for me, although it has been proven that prayer doesn't actually heal or change people in any way. As for you not expecting me to reply, of course I will! It's not everyday that you get to talk to a Christian who can actually come up with intelligent things to say. I mean, if we were to go more in depth with this, then I'm sure it might be a more faith vs. logic sort of thing, but as far as a simple discussion like this, everything you said works perfectly. If you are familiar with "crawfish," as they are mentioned in my name, you could most likely use process of elimination to determine which section of states I live in, all of which, are extremely southern and extremely religious states that are filled with morons who don't have anything to say when it comes to religion. They believe it simply because that's what they are told to believe, and for no other reason other than that. Things of that nature are what piss me off; people who actually have intelligent things to say about religion such as you do not, although I still believe that there would be many more atheists/agnostics in this world if people put a fraction of the time that you seem to have put in when it comes to researching religion.

After watching countless clips from "The Atheist Experience" call in show, I know that it is not everyday that a Christian and atheist/agnostic/skeptic get to engage in a discussion that challenges the minds of both sides. For that, I thank you. Now both of us are more knowledgeable about where the other person is coming from. I doubt I'll ever be able to fully see your perspective (or anyone's perspective for that matter) when becoming a Christian, but it is nice to know that there are people who can actually think for themselves when they decide to proclaim themselves as "Christian," and are actually able to back up things that they say.

Thank you for the wonderful discussion. I most likely won't spend an hour each day replying to you as I have done today, but I will continue to reply if you keep sending messages.

1700 words in only an hour of writing. Man, if only school essays were this enjoyable and relaxing. =D

Although it's 2 in the morning and I should probably be in bed, I will take the time to respond to you again simply because it's not everyday in which you can have a discussion with an intelligent Christian such as yourself. So here it goes...

To start off, I would like to thank you for your response, and let you know that you truly do have an amazing story about coming from communist China to America at such a young age. After reading that, it is clear that there may or may not have been some hardships in your life that you've had to overcome that I cannot relate to. Having that said, I honestly don't think people such as yourself give enough self-credit. People are intelligent beings, and although we're an evolved species (fact) sitting on a flick of dust, suspended in a sunbeam (Carl Sagan-Pale Blue Dot), there is greatness among many of us that allows us to do, well, great things in life. People don't understand that whenever they overcome something, it was because of their perseverance and hard-work, and I honestly don't see why everyone is so obsessed with giving credit to some divine being. Think about how little the chances are of your god being real. Yes, I know you'd like to believe that he/she/it is real simply because it makes you feel better, but quite frankly that does not have any affect on the reality of it being true. Think about it, say that your god who supposedly helped you overcome every hardship you had in life isn't real. Then I guess that would mean that everything you've accomplished in life has been entirely on you. Shocker right? People can actually accomplish things without the help of a divine being.

You also go on to say that there is really no harm in believing in something that makes you a better person, and while I will admit that there are moral aspects of the Bible such as "You shall not murder" (6th commandment). But honestly, what moral person needs a "holy book" telling people that murdering someone is wrong? Again, I go back to that concept of humans being intelligent beings, who can use logic, reason, instinct, etc. to decipher right from wrong. When people say that the Bible is a moral book, I really have a hard time buying that simply because of the bad aspects of the Bible that ignorant people simply choose to ignore. For example: "'If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." (Leviticus 20:13). Do you hear pastors preaching that in church? Of course not, simply because every bad aspect of the Bible is ignored. One can say, "Well, I'm really more into the New Testament, so that stuff doesn't really apply to me." But really, that in my opinion is just a cop out response given simply because they cannot come up with a sustainable answer. It doesn't get any more raw than the Old Testament, and I think it is kind of ironic that there had to be a translated version of the original Bible which is already supposed to be moral, into an even more moral book. Having all of this said, any book can be looked at in a positive light if the negative aspects of it are ignored, which is the problem I have with Christians and the Bible. One could also say (in fact my Southern fried Baptist friend actually told me this whenever we were talking about religion), "Yea, but times were waaaaaay different back then (referencing the Old Testament of course and how ludicrous the stuff that I was quoting seemed." Exactly my point. So why is society so content with worshipping a book written when people were crazy and misinformed about the world. Remember that these people are also ones who didn't even know that the world was round. That being said, it is highly unlikely that prophets of God that supposedly wrote the Old Testament were actually intellectual prophets. The fact that they were so misinformed about how the universe works just proves that they were normal people, again making me wonder why people worship a book that was written by normal people. Isn't it kind of funny that every bit of knowledge in the Bible is only up to date with the times that they were living in? One would think that these who are writing a book that attempts to explain how the universe was created could provide something true about how the world works.

Going back to what I was saying earlier about morals in the Bible, any person can trick themselves into thinking that any book ever written makes them become a better person, that is if they choose to be ignorant about what is being said in their book and only using positive aspects of it to prove their points (kind of like what people do with the Bible, eh?).

well, the only thing I did was go to YouTube to listen to some System of a Down, and Tool, but then I looked at the YouTube comments, and there is always two guys just fighting over the music. One guy will say his thought on the song, and what he thinks is the meaning of it, then another guy comes and says " No, you dipshit! It means this, and that. Get your shit together...." and then it turns into an argument with the stupidest come-backs ever
