"We were not honoring the users by lacking development on the site." - Burnie Burns

Back in February of 2009 Burnie Burns was on LateNite JengaJam/Glib Shark (episode 108) (with a bit of Geoff and Joel as well) specifically to talk about issues with the website. Growing pains and technical issues were causing frustrating issues with visiting Rooster Teeth. So Burnie took a chunk of time out of his super busy life to come on the show and address fan concerns on a wide range of issues from pure technical problems to lack of communication.

While some of the specifics are old the vast majority of the things we talked about are as relevant today as they were six years ago. As we embark on this new chapter in the journey of the Rooster Teeth website it's important to remember that from the very beginning the founders wanted nothing more then to make this place a solid home for their content and our community. And it's a stark reminder that those growing pains are both wonderful and difficult.

There will always be issues with change and growth. There will always be snafus, glitches, and annoyances when upgrades bring issues. But there will also always be friends who want us there, and content we want to see, and an online family who value us. It's frustrating when technical issues prevent us from interacting with the ones we love. But I trust the ones we love to keep working on it.

      Thanks RT. <3

...also Ed Robertson from Barenaked Ladies was on that show for about 3 minutes and it was amazing and I got to ask him a question and it's still one of my favorite moments of the show ever of all time!!

    • Vox Machina as musical recovery

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

2 weeks is, as far as I can remember, the longest I have ever gone without playing the oboe.

It helped a bit that I was recovering from having a broken tooth pulled. For at least one of those two weeks I really didn't WANT to do anything involved with my mouth. But the rest of the time I've been annoyed and itching to play.

One of the things I did while recovering from the surgery was watch a lot of Critical Role. It's basically a bunch of awesome voice actors playing D&D, and being as amazing and funny as you think that might be. I've been addicted to this show over the last few months, not only enjoying it for how much fun it is to watch but taking tips and tricks on how they play to incorporate into my own D&D game.

While rewatching a bunch of shows I started playing around with turning the different character names into music. Music cryptograms are fun, and it was interesting to hear what words sounded like in music. When I took 'Vox Machina' (the group name the characters call themselves) I found it had a very medieval, quite beautiful theme. And in a pain medication induced haze composed a quick theme and variations based on that theme.

Now it's time to start playing my instrument again, and I could think of no better way to recover my endurance then to play that piece. I ended up recording it on English Horn instead of oboe because I thought it sounded more appropriate to the style of the music.

Please enjoy, and go watch Critical Role because it's awesome!! smiley12.gif

    • Finding commissions is like pulling teeth...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

The fabulous @lukemckay is open for commissions, and I would suggest contracting him now BEFORE RTX as he's usually swamped during and after the show. Also we're super close to him being able to move down here with me, and moving costs money. You want to help move Luke to America right? Go commission him to draw you stuff.

I won't be much help this week, as Friday I am getting a broken wisdom teeth pulled out of my mouth. I have been extremely lucky in my life and have never needed major dental work until this. Heck I haven't had any major trips to the doctor for ANYTHING. But you can imagine I'm a bit more concerned about my mouth, what with being an oboist and all. I still have all of my wisdom teeth...well until Friday. Through a combination of good genes, lots of brushing and flossing, and luck I have not needed a tooth pulled.

The night before and the morning of the pull I've been prescribed Valium, which I've never had. Day of the pull they're giving me Nitrox (never had) and pulling the darn thing out of my mouth (which I've never had done) then sending me home to recover. I plan on tweeting while under the influence as much as I am capable.

So go send Luke money because he's gonna have to spend all weekend getting valium/nitrox induced or pain filled moaning and groaning texts from me, and he deserves a distraction. smiley12.gif

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

About 2 years ago I had the good fortune of having two wonderful people open their home and lives to me.

When Luke and I were still trying to figure out the next step in our lives, when I was unsure if I was going to stay in America or go to Canada, when I was totally lost on where to go and how to go about it... @sirnarvy and @sailortweek offered more then their spare bedroom. They offered a safe place to be to figure out what I needed to do next.

They were there to help me through a lot of rough times; the loss of friends, my slipped disk and months of physical therapy, and the battle with governments and lawyers. Because of them I could afford, both literally and figuratively, to have a lot of good come my way. Thanks to them I've enjoyed coming home to a family.

Now it's time to move into my own place and prep to share it with Luke. There's no adequate way to ever repay them for their kindness. But I guess a very public thank you is a good place to start.

Thank you. I love you both. smiley12.gif

It's no secret that I was at [EVENT REDACTED] a week or so ago. It was absolutely lovely to see friends who's company I only get to enjoy once or twice a year. And I had the immense honor and privilege to provide my oboe playing services for a good friend on one of the most special days of his life.

      Good times.

Fortunately there were several talented camera people there taking lots of pictures, so I'm just going to hold off on posting anything from my cell phone. Because I'm sure more amazing shots will be posted and those deserve the glory.

After [EVENT REDACTED] I took a few days to visit my family in Buffalo. I didn't take nearly enough photos while there, mostly because I was too busy hanging out with my parents while eating and drinking everything in sight. Also I got a chance to finally meet my little brother.

      Buffalo2015DadStandingBlue.jpg
(My Dad dancing with the dog. I don't know why the image is displaying sideways.)

He's a 70lbs siberian huskey named Blue, who until last weekend I'd only seen pictures of.

Tomorrow I'll be back on Glib Shark, and I'm sure there will be talk of both [EVENT REDACTED] and my trip to Buffalo. But for now keep an eye out for amazing pictures of 100 chicken nuggets.

The first is definitely a possibility; man, if I had the time...

The second, unfortunately is not an option for me; we have a serious problem with cell phone coverage inside the house. I'd rather be shackled by a cord than not be reachable. smiley2.gif

Yeah, It'l take me a LONG time to get to ME2. I'm only about 10 hours into the 1st ME and I'm going to play through it at least 3 times.

I'd already discovered the post-game snuggling. I found the lap-sitting more disturbing than the bed-lying, just because of the way Shepard twitches around. Then I thought maybe she's supposed to be talking, but her lips aren't moving. I dunno.

I think I may replay the final battle again and see if I can get everyone through this time.

Oh, yeah, and Jacob was also disqualified because of his huge, freaky horseteeth. Garrus had me at "Don't make me laugh, my face is barely holding together." smiley8.gif

didn't you wish that they added more choices, cus I was sitting there and saying to myself I wouldn't say any of these things.

But the 1st play through was as real as I would of done things. Butt for my last mission I took Garrus and Miranda.

So on my next play, Im going to make much nicer choices to get my paragon up high, and then on the 3rd time just be a bad-ass and not think about the choices I made.

I don't know about you but on that last part when you see the human reaper, I thought OH SHIT Im going fight this thing, and then it fell down and then I was like, oh I guess you don't have to fight it and after either putting a virus throught or self-distructing BAM it comes back up and I was like holy shit I don't have a fucking chance!

      u?

    • BigNiceJohn

Well, when you take charries on missions, unless it's their personal mission, there is very little to say. The voice acting is probably the strongest part of the game, and with the cast they've got, it would be nice to showcase them a little bit more.

Sadly, you made me realize another thing I'm not fond of in the game... there's no big open space. Part of world-building is being able to immerse yourself in it, and sadly, it's not doing it for me.

This is a game I really wanted to love, and I guess I'm not over the disappointment of merely liking it, other than the beginning and end, which I tweeted as 'balls-clenchingly good' when I first played through it.

    • BigNiceJohn

Actually, it was that conversation that made me realize that my people in Dragon Age talking to each other non-stop.

As for the inventory, it negated the idea of getting what the kids call 'phat lootz'.

To be a bit more clear with my argument, Mass Effect is still a great game, but to me, it's an 8, or 8.5 instead of the 9's and 10's that the game has been getting.

I skipped a lot of the exploration, a skipped a few of the non achievement side missions, I got all my squad, mined some planets for the much needed ship upgrades, shot some stuff, slept with all the female crew members, and survived the suicide mission.

I will play through again though on insanity this time.

I don't think they disconnected our DSL to give it to someone else--i think some Verizon rocket scientist accidentally disconnected it (which has happened twice before) and then someone else was dropped into the slot before we could call about it, since it happened while we were at work. And they won't disconnect that person to give it back to us.

Sorry for the delay in responding--RvB isn't dial-up friendly and I had to wait until we got our DSL back.

Bayonetta is not very long at all--it took me 8 hours or so--and there are a LOT of cutscenes. On the harder levels I imagine it would last longer. I played on Easy, which isn't really all that easy. I'm playing through on Normal now, and the only reason my progress isn't taking longer is that I'm skipping the cutscenes. It's definitely taking longer to beat the bosses. It's quite the freakshow, lol.

Yeah, isn't that a great line? I use it all the time now. I totally stole it from "Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series" which is a series where one guy takes clips from this anime series Yu-Gi-Oh and does his own scripit and does all the voices for all the characters and it's completely hilarious. I highly recommend it.
