    • Turkey Day Perfections....

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

      HAPPY THANKSGIVING CANADA!!!

I'm up visiting my boyfriend and friends for Canadian Turkey Day! Any excuse is a good excuse to see my boyfriend, but Thanksgiving is a really good excuse. I get boyfriend AND turkey...win-win! smiley12.gifsmiley12.gif

Also I am now officially internet famous. I posted a vid on YouTube of my first Halo Reach Perfection (and the amazing driver, LouieBlack, did the same from his perspective, you should absolutely watch as he is one of the best drivers out there!) and after only a few minutes on the air my first comment came in. What was that comment, you ask? Well I encourage you to go see for yourself, but for those too lazy from excess tryptophan I screencaped the darn thing:

That's right. Someone "FIRST"ed me! I am now officially internet awesome! smiley8.gif

    • The Issues With Interviews...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

People have commented, musician or otherwise, that the audition process is an arduous one. Spending weeks preparing excerpts, only getting a few minutes behind a screen to prove worth, having the audition committee not give a damn about what is on your resume or what experience you have, the dread of messing up one little thing and being dismissed...I agree it's not an easy process. But having gone through the "corporate" audition process a few times now (or what most of you call interviews for jobs) I have decided the music world is better off.

See when I audition it's mostly an up front, straight forward, instant affair. I play, they decide if my playing is good enough, and I find out at the audition the same day the same hour if I got the job. There's no bullshit questions, no strange tests, no waiting for calls back, none of that. I put my skill and talent out there and get instant feedback on if they want me or not.

It can be harsh, but at least it's quick and honest.

Unlike job interviews. I just finished my interview at the local Best Buy as I continue my quest for gainful employment (because oboe jobs are hard to come by and I am desperate for steady income because gas to visit my boyfriend is expensive) and if the very nice manager I talked to was telling the truth I interviewed very well and should be an asset they should hire. And she would recommend that to the GM that I will now have to interview with NEXT WEEK.

So a 30 minutes interview wasn't enough, nor was the resume or cover letter or the online 40 page test I had to fill out to even get the initial interview. And this isn't the first time I've had a second interview somewhere. Most of my professional life has prepared me to be able to win a job in 5 minutes or less and find out instantly if I was good enough or not. This multi-week process is both confounding and exhausting. What can I possibly do or not do in this next interview that would change any minds? If the GM has the final say in the hiring process why don't THEY just do the interviews right off the bat and save time? On the test when they ask "Do you care about what other people think of you?" do they really think someone is going to hit the "Never" checkbox and admit they're a selfish prick? And what about Scarecrow's brain?!

So yes the music business is a harsh world were gigs are scarce and money is tight and life is hard. But damnit at least I never have to wait a week to find out if I get the job or not!! smiley5.gif

    • Invasion Spawn Fail...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

I was playing some Reach Invasion recently with some friends, and thought I'd do the nice thing by letting my battle buddy spawn on me. Apparently instead of bringing him into the action I brought him INTO A WALL. (that's a link to the file rendered on B.net)

      smiley5.gif

      That's a spawn fail...

    • Dvorak Musiter...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

My last journal was semi-depressing, even with the cute puppy pictures. I'm still desperate for a job that offers me steady employment (I have some gigs but they are too few, and my gig at Volt won't ever give me more that a day or two a week!) but sitting around writing sad journals about it will not help me find a job. So the hunt continues.

However I also can't keep neglecting Musiter, my pet project of months of work and perpetual video and audio experience. This week the return of Musiter is Dvorak's Symphony #9 (the New World), second movement. The English horn solo is one of my favorite pieces of all time, so what better way to lift my spirits then with something that always fills my soul with peace?

The camera work was done with the help of ChurchesWife and KnucklesDawson, who graciously stood around on my balcony filming me play in our backyard. smiley12.gif

    • Late Night Journal...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

Sorry for the lack of updates here on RT. Life has been stressful and annoying what with the constant interviews yet lack of jobs. The music store I was really hoping to get a gig with just told me today they hired someone else. And Volt keeps cutting out shifts I'm assigned to. Nothing like expecting to work and then being told last minute to forget it. I have a few gigs coming up but all in October...a long way away...

It got so depressing I resorted to calling my parents and asking them to send puppy pictures of my sister's dog.

      bella.jpg

It didn't quite work but at least it got a smile.

In an effort to lift spirits between bouts of job hunting and depression I am planning visit to see my boyfriend and also help roommate out with her Extra Life project. I have no money to give but I do have time and a car. So expect me there running errands, hanging out, helping out, and maybe playing Reach for charity. Because who doesn't want the chance to kick a girl's ass at Reach for a good cause?

      ...wait a sec...

    • Post PAX Second Part...

      OboeCrazy Freelancer

I've been neglecting to post recently what with all the stuff going on. Moving takes weeks to finish even after you arrive and set up at a new place. I still have boxes in corners and furniture to buy despite being here for a month now. So updating has taken a back burner.

However there are new images up of my wonderful weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle! And Musiter continues to churn out new content. Hopefully in the next week I will have images from my parents visit, videos of interviews, and more that's going on in my life.

Also the interviews for LNJJ are starting to go up. Like our interview with Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub. Or with Bungie's Derek Carroll about Reach multiplayer. And of course the MC FrontaLot interview.

But for now I'm just happy to be home. smiley12.gif

I am still gathering thoughts from an excellent weekend at PAX. Fortunately I have a day before Roadblock and I will talk about it on Late Night Jenga Jam (10:30 Eastern, 9:30 Central, 7:30 Pacific Tuesday nights) so I have time to let things settle before the interview begins.

However if you have questions I have answers...some anyway. I didn't play everything. So ask away and I will respond right in this thread. Otherwise come to the Jenga Jam on Tuesday and ask there!

      Science and math, ewwww.
I didn’t much care for physics. Physics was where I came up with the whole “} If a theorem can’t be proven and a law is always true then you can’t make a law that relies on a theorem for substantiation†thing.

I don’t remember which one. Truthfully I forced myself to forget it after I realized how stupid it was, but I wish I did remember it, because when I talk to physics people now they always try to prove me wrong by asking for proof that I can not provide. This was in high school once, in physics class, and the teacher taught us a law (I think it had to do with potential energy, I’m just guessing) and said “the basis of this law comes from the _I don't know which_ theorem.â€Â
I raised my hand “I thought theorems were not true, they were just never proven false, so how can you make a law off of something that isn’t true?â€Â
I got sent to the disciplinarian’s office for that, I think it was to shut me up. I just kept thinking of the scene in Schindler's List where the girl is telling the Nazi that the building is built on bad foundation and he shoots her for telling him he’s wrong. Not exactly the best comparison, but you get my drift.

I don’t know if your or my teacher hated us, and I’m not even sure about this for your teacher, (it might apply) but for mine, she was just an idiot.

You think you are annoyed about no Nightcrawler? How do you think I feel about no Gambit?!?!? It wouldn't be bad, except that they were promising Gambit for X-Men 3 starting back right after X-Men 1.

RE Kurt Wagner, I head that they couldn't get Alan Cummings to come back for some reason, and they decided not to go with a replacement actor.

      WAH!

I mean, I want to see another live X-Men movie - - but, not like this! NOT LIKE THIS!

      Um.. 8 x 7 is 56????? but 6 x 7 is 42

And 6 and 7 are considered symbols of evil and good. 6 being evil and 7 being good. So.. Good and evil make up society, therefore the world or earth, whichever you prefer.
