So, RTX is 4 days away and this is what I'm dealing with.

Sunday morning at 4 AM everyone gets woken up to a very loud bang. After taking a scan of the house quickly, we see that nothing fell or got knocked over, but after stepping outside we see that the window and part of the side of the house is ripped off. Assuming the worst, that it could have been a break in attempt we call the police. They make a sweep of the property with a K9 unit and don't find anything of note, then take depositions. With nothing else to do they leave us with a case number and a contact number, and head out.

Fast forward to the morning, and what happened becomes pretty apparent. A tree that was not in our yard fell, when it fell, it took down the wires under it, one of which was attached to an unused box on our house, which took part of the side of the house and window frame with it. So I contact the police department to give them an update on our situation, and they assure us they will have the city send out someone to take a look at the situation and find out who the tree belongs to.

A little while later a Verizon truck comes to the front of our house. I speak to the technician while he is taking a look at the downed lines. He tells us that the line that was pulled going to our house was a Verizon line, and we don't even use Verizon, and comes into our yard to take a look at the damages. He then tells us that he will contact his supervisor and she will come out Monday and take a look and see how to go about getting the damages fixed for us. Before leaving though, he tells us that Verizon isn't going to do anything about the tree, that he believes the line above theirs is a Comcast line, and that they should be the ones to remove the tree. He even goes on to say "When the tree is removed, call us and we will fix the pole and the line."

There is still no sign of a city worker and still not knowing who the tree belongs to. Being a Comcast customer myself, I call Comcast and tell them that a tree fell, and that I was told it was one of their lines it fell onto. They send someone out to take a look fairly quickly. Once the Comcast technician is there he takes a look at the pole and line, telling me that it is a "feeder line" and that it shouldn't cause any service interruption, so Comcast has no interest in removing the tree, but will fix the line when the tree is moved. Great

So we are up to my property damage, two downed lines, and a broken pole from two major service providers, and neither of them are willing to touch this tree even just to fix their own lines.

Monday comes. After not hearing from the city I contact them myself, telling them that there are my property damage, two downed lines, and a broken pole, and that I want to know who the tree belongs to because it caused damage to my house. Someone from the city electric gets sent out to take a look, he tells me that it is not a town right-of-way, but tells me he will find out who the tree belongs to and call me back. Soon after he calls back informing me which neighbor the tree belongs to. Turns out it belongs to an old man who rents out the house who we have not had pleasant dealings with so far.

In the meantime, the supervisor for Verizon has not shown up or contacted us. I call Verizon and explain my situation to them, that I was told that the supervisor would be here Monday to get the ball rolling on the repairs, because part of the wall is missing, and anything can get inside my wall until this is fixed. I am told that the supervisor that is assigned to come out here has been busy because apparently there are two supervisors, and the other is on vacation, so she is handling all the visits herself, and that they apologize about the wait but she should be out Tuesday, but will make contact with me on the phone as soon as she is done with the visit she is at now. I ask if there is a number I can reach her at in case she does not contact me and the phone representative told me that they were not allowed to give out the number to me, but did give me the name of the supervisor.

So today I watched my sister play FEAR2 for the first time. I can only assume wanting to get in the spirit for the new Friday the 13th movie coming out. It ping-ponged back and forth between almost passing out laughing at her, and cringing in frustration during firefights. Watching her jump at even the slightest music change or shadow is something that I could laugh at all day. But then again, I'm the kind of guy that I'm watching a horror movie with friends, I'll sneak something to prod them with from time to time during suspenseful parts. Specifically, my friend who could not sit through Hellraiser without finding something to divert his attention. Or nearly soiled himself when a group of us were watching White Noise on a Halloween night, and SOMEONE happened to keep poking him with a toy pitchfork whenever a static-heavy section was playing. The same friend who, after watching The Grudge, could not go down into his basement alone, and even jumped out of his skin at a squirrel that came out of a tree a little too fast for him. Good times. Anyway, I digress. The point, watching my sister play FEAR2 was some of the most fun I've had as a spectator in some time.

Also my new microphone came today. Goodbye shitty headset mic that only picks up a quarter of an inch in front of the boom, and never quite swings down far enough. Hello still being able to talk even if I go to the friggen kitchen for a drink. Can't wait.
