All I have owned is sedans... not anymore. As of a week ago I got a Hyundai Santa Fe LX with all the features. And no, its not new its a 2003 but I wanted a used car because Alaska is rough on cars and I didn't want to buy a new one only to have it ruined. It gets great MPG for a SUV, right now averaging about 23-24.

Favorite feature? Seat warmers because I like to have my butt toasty warm in the desert. (Can't wait for Alaska)

Worst thing? I have to sell my Cadillac... :-(

      Recent news...

Got married, about to move on base into a good house, very excited. About to buy a Mosin Nagant M91/30. I love WWII weapons. About to have a HUGE exercise here soon so thats going to be loads of fun like always... blah. Should have pic updates and stuff soon.

Several months ago, I had my eye on a marathon distance march called "The Bataan Death March." If any of you don't know the significance of the history of what came to be the Bataan Death March, let me explain some of its hidden history. In April 9, 1942 - The Bataan Peninsula, Philippine Islands - 10 thousand American and 62 thousand Philippine soldiers were surrendered under the Empire of Japan. The troops did not surrender, they were surrendered by their superior officers. Upon capture, the soldiers were marched to prison camps and this march came to be known as the Bataan Death March. The prisoners were forced to walk 65 to 100 miles, 12 hours a day in the blistering 100+ degrees of the Philippine Island Jungle. The soldiers were denied any food or water, and anyone caught trying to drink water or consume food were killed on sight. For no apparent reason, prisoners were beaten with clubs, rifle butts, or sheathed swords. If prisoners had rings, their fingers would be cut off so the guards could keep their jewelry. Those that fell behind in the march were eliminated by the "Buzzard Squad" whose job it was to "clean up" the prisoners by cutting off their heads or running them over with tanks. For every mile, 2 decapitated heads littered the side of the endless dirt path. During this march, over 1,000 American and 9,000 Philippine soldiers died, a horrific march that is know known as the Bataan Death March.

On March 25, 2007 I started and completed a 26.2 mile course in the dirt and sand, going up mountains and rocky paths, with my full military uniform (including issued combat boots) and a 60-pound pack. Thats right, a 60-pound pack. I started and completed this race in a team of five, under strict rules, and 90 degree desert heat. It was most defiantly the most pain I have endured in my entire life. Starting in White Sands Missile Range Base, New Mexico, my team and I marched 2 miles on pavement to the gate, offering us the beginning of a 7 mile long dirt, sand, and rock road. The day was rather cool at first, our team and I felt pretty confident about completing a march that according to everyone around us with experience, was one of the toughest marches in the US. Singing, laughing, and many stories later, we hit mile 9, the start of 7 more miles of pure uphill. By then, we had done minor repairs on our feet which were just beginning the ache of what would soon be the greatest pain any of us had every felt in our entire lives. The hill drained our energy, and coming up to the halfway point many of us doubted completion. When we got to the peak of our march, we saw an interesting sight. Of the 2000 or so Army that started this March, hundreds of them littered the halfway point, crying and aching in pain with many of them on saline IVs. It was at this point we realized as a team that we were much better off than others, and morale jumped. We soon felt confident in our abilities and continued the march. By mile 22, we hit "the Sand Pit" a 2 mile long stretch uphill that is literally walking on sand dunes. By then our energy was completely gone, and mile 24 marked a big drop in my enthusiasm and motivation for this march. But I have come to realize that these long painful races are worth much more than people realize. At certain points in an endurance race, your body feels a certain exhaustion. A type of exhaustion that is all encompassing, one where you can drop to the ground and not give a care about anything else but rest, relaxation, and sleep. Indeed, endurance athletes have a name for this phenomena - "hitting the wall." I hit my wall in this march at about mile 24. When I hit the wall a very apparent line came up. The very line between the physical and mental and the power that is needed to maintain both. At this point, physically, my legs would not move. I mentally had to force myself to move them as one forcefully strains to lift a heavy object. At this point, it becomes apparent where mental strength, religion and spirituality come into play, the endurance and power of the mind. You soon realize and adjust your meters of what you think you can do. Very soon things have come at me and I have thought, "well the march was alot harder than this and I finished the march, I can finish this too." A new motivation, and a new outlook on life, and defiantly a new appreciation of sitting on a couch. I have been welcomed to "the club" as it is called by uncle Bill and Dave. And my oh my, it has never been so painful.

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
      Stuck in reverse.

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
      Could it be worse?

      Lights will guide you home
      And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
      Just what you're worth

      Lights will guide you home
      And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream, down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
      And I..

Tears stream, down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
      And I..

      Lights will guide you home
      And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

Have you ever been so sorry for something that you would give all that you are, your life if need be to make it right again? Has something ever pained you so much that you physically feel pain, you throw up because it upsets you so much? Have you ever wanted everything to go right but it all goes wrong? I have, and everyday I will regret hurting someone I love. Nothing can be said, nothing can be done, it is just out of your hands. All of this, all of what we fail and what we succeed at determines who we are. The question is, do I want to be what I've become? Why do people feel lost? Feel like they don't know who they are? All I can say is that the world will still turn, the sun will still rise and set, that nature can go on without me just fine. So what do I matter? What is the purpose to life? I'm not sure, but I want to find out, because I owe that to someone. It is the least I could do for what has happened.

Well so far, the excitement at this base is interesting. The second day I got here I witnessed a plane that smacked into the ground. My second day! apparently it was a QF-4E, the old F-4 jet that is remote controlled and the air force does air to air and surface to air missle tests on it. Also, the hook on an F-117 is up in the aircraft and unlike most planes it explodes out to drop the hook. Well one of the weapons guys tightened a screw to tight on the panel and it activated the C4 blowing his hand off (the wrench actually blew through his hand and that was why it was severed) and loading his body full of metal fragments. For the next six months, medical personnel will be pulling metal fragments from his body... fun. Lastest news, My unit is up for deployment in January and my Flight Chief (we call him baby face) wants me and my friend Lofaro on the roster for experience. Good thing is this is unit deployment, meaning I go with the aircraft, to South Korea, and for only three months. Sounds like an awesome time. I don't have lots of time anymore so if you wanna leave what you guys have been up to in your comments that would be awesome. talk to you all later, loves and kisses...

I wanted to tell you all that I am sorry that I can't be there as much as I have. I have just been so busy, and it is just hard for me to juggle this new life and try to juggle the old one too. I know I haven't kept in contact with several people and I and sorry, especially to Tabby, Travis, and Brian. My life is just so crazy now, I will try harder to keep in contact, just let me know and I'll fix it. I wanted to let you know that I haven't forgot about any of you, it's just sometimes life gets in the way. Please message me or get in contact with me, I feel horrible for letting you guys down.

    • Iraqi war not a big deal?

      Perato

I looked up the statistics on the Iraqi war... here are the results...

Here are some facts about the war...

114 journalits have been killed while in Iraq

341 Contractors have died in the reconstruction.

2,558 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of the Iraqi war, this number includes two deaths still to be confirmed by the DOD.

2,786 total deaths in the Iraq Coalition.

6,623 Iraqi Security Forces Killed in action.

18,777 total coalition soldiers wounded in battle.

43,709 civilians have died in the Iraq war...

Direct number of people killed or wounded... 72,350

Now do you dare tell me that not alot of people are dying in Iraq?

Look at this link Casualties confirmed by the DoD and tell me this is not alot of soldiers. Try reading each one of the names, I bet you wont get done for acouple hours. Don't ever act like the Iraqi war is not a big deal in front of me because I will tear you a new asshole. I salute the flag everyday for those people who have died. Those people may just be names to you, but to me they are my fallen brothers and sisters. I may have never known anyone of them, but I respect them more then I will ever respect someone who sits on their ass and complains about the politics and all this shit going on in Iraq. Those who died, got off their ass and tried to help. I don't care about the political bullshit, that is not our job, our job is to follow orders, and do our job the best we can.

"The goal is not for us die for our country but to make the other bastard die for his."

In other news, sorry I haven't been on much lately, lots been going on, updates soon...

Don't get too crazy. My Hummer is only a Hummer by name. It is nowhere close to Humvee. Basically, it is a hopped-up Chevy Colorado. Besides, you might want better mileage travling up the Alaskan Highway. I get 20-22MPG, but only because of the mods I have done to it.
