I've kinda gotten away from the site again. It's really Katie's fault, I read journals off her screen and hear all the big info from her. So, sorry you guys have not seen my comments and incite for the last few months. Not too much has happened here, but there was an awesome Bears season. I didn't keep up with my workout as it got colder, but I have decided to start using the WiiFit in these colder months. Speaking of Colds, I just got over one from Christmas. Hmmm... Wish Katie great luck with her new Job search.

Love, happiness and great success to all of you!

      So, Here it is.

Florida was great. lots of fun. Between Hogworts and the Everglades it was one of the best trips I've had in a long time. Katie posted a great JPS post on Hogworts. I'll try and do a good everglades one here too, but I have to get the videos uploaded.

My work outs have been going great. I've been out doing 10-12 miles 3-4 days a week. Unfortunately It has beat the hell out of me and for the last 3 days I haven't gone. The week before Florida I actually hit 20 miles in under 2 hours. I am having trouble keeping up with myself. Katie thinks I need to eat better, and I'm kinda inclined to agree. After about 3 rides I tend to be exhausted and tired for a few days. So we have been getting into eating fuller meals lately wile still lowering my daily intake. It has been a success though, I think I have made some great progress from where I was just 2 months ago.

      News and notes:
      - io9.com is now my favorite news blog. It covers what I love way too well.
-Starcraft 2's campaign was great! so what if it was only terran? It helped the story be compelling and never suffered in length. Took me at the very least a week to beat.
      - Just started watching Mad Men season 1. our netflix is set to give us the rest of the season and season 2 very quickly here.
      - We got King of the hill seasons 3 and 4 on DVD recently. It never was a must see like Futurama for me, but it is such a wonderfully funny show.
      - Is it odd to know that Football season is coming soon but I could kinda care less. Maybe it will pick up for me soon as week one hits... Although I am looking forward to week one of college football, 4 days of great football, finally the NCAA did something right.
      - Going to Rifftrax live again in a couple weeks. Unfortunately it's a movie I've already seen.
      - Did the AOIO video at TO this year. Hope my parts turned out well.

      TO:
GOD it was hard getting back from Florida and turning around to drive to Toronto. Had to get laundry done and then pack all over again. We left 3 hours later than we wanted and were sluggish the entire way. Katie slept most of our 12 hour drive and I got in a hour long nap at the Michigan Boarder. Customs were Hell. Too many people crossing the borders and not enough people working them created over an hour waits.

Got to the 3 brewers for the unofficial formal night. I LOVE drinking in a tux. Screams classy. Katie wore her new dress, I'm sure she'll have pictures of it when she gets around to it. We hit another bar afterwords, and Katie played Still Alive with Jeff Williams of... well, he is Martha's Brother. Kinda one of Trocadero's secondary guys I guess. Also met the awesome Jeff there, the artist formerly known as 13church. Also met Madmac5 who was just as awesome.

Saturaday was great. Q&A was a highlight this year instead of kinda something that happened. Hung our with people, Katie literaly through 20+ tickets into one of the door donation prizes. so that was a good amount of money going to Child's Play. She'll let you know what she won... if she won.... yeah.

Then it was drinking downstairs in the Ram in the Rye. I was on Jack and Cokes and Double jack and Cokes most of the night and got, well, drunk enough. Also got the house specialty for Katie which was a variation of Sex on the beach called Sex on the Quad. The RT guys hung out mostly outside while we were mostly inside taking over the booths. Dangerous Dan played a great set and then played a lil more at the end of the night. Martha played some with Jeff but then said they were moving outside to play, but then didn't... Poo

Didn't matter though, we had a great time... then I think we got breakfast at the Golden Griddle with everyone. Then Katie was promised a hat while that same someone ate half of my hashbrowns.

We got back safely and checked out Sunday morning before our Sunday Cookout. Hung out a lot more with guys like Jeff, roadblock and Rocketwhore. I got thrown into a video. Talked with karli and Ragingterror. Didn't do CTF this year, but I was otherwise doing something that I don't remember anymore. After the cookout, we ate at the farewell dinner and made our way to our outside TO hotel for the night and promptly watched Extras for the rest of the night.

Drove home Monday morning made fair time, Katie couldn't stay up again but was awake for the entire Indiana portion of the trip. So, TO was awesome. My quick lack of details shouldn't detour any of you from coming next year. Just come, it's a real blast and I tend to try and buy drinks for people I know, it's what I love to do.

Just got back from TO. Now I'm the Featured User. Just say hey if you stop by. Then go see my Girlfriend's site(www.justplainsomething.com) if you like creative writing about movies. Burnie said he would check it out this past weekend, so why not you?

Florida and TO recap to come, for now, back to catching up on what I missed over the weekend.

Other than that, if you read this far, you should come to RvB Toronto next year. RvB TO is "the" RT event and we need to break the Irish Car Bomb line record.

      Hey all. Busy busy.

I don't remember what I have said the last time I was on here, but I'll give the lowdown of the last 2 weeks or so.

We are going to Florida. Fort Lauderdale to be specific. Going to spend a week there, expect pictures. We will be gone from the 17th till the 24th. We are flying into Palm Beach, driving to our spacious 1 BR, Full Kitchen +Patio and jacuzzi tub unit. We are going to get a tour of the everglades and plenty of drinks at the pool-side bar. I can't wait to get there and see all they have.

Been biking every other day, think I've lost a little weight, gotta keep it up. Normally I've been going 5 miles, at least, usually close to 7. Last time I went, it was about an hour from sundown and I ended up getting face fulls of nats and mosquitoes while riding along the river.

The Lebrawnathon has been great to listen to. I hope the Bulls get someone, but I'm just happy to have something to distract from the Cubs and something that isn't some scandal to talk about.

Got a bunch of new clothes with Katie. I also bought a new pair of shoes. first time I've gotten new shoes in 3 years.

OH shit, the leak in the basement. Yeah that was a pain. The problem was the condenser inside the furnace for where the cold air from the A/C meets the circulation system. The drainage pipe for the drip pan was clogged with dirt and gunk from... well time... not sure when would be the last time it was cleaned. It got a bunch of the carpet in the basement wet, we got a dehumidifier to dry it up. Things are better now.

The yard door in the back yard has finally fallen apart. Guess I gotta get a new one.

I went up to my mom's for the 3rd and spent time at the Town of Munster's Bash in Centennial Park. Fireworks rocked.

Spent the 4th with Katie's Parents. They were asleep before the sun went down. We ended up coming home and launching our fireworks (6 lil shells) that I have been planning on shooting off for like ... 2 years now. I also ran out for a fire pit, we sat out on the deck and watched the neighbors fireworks in front of our own roaring fire. Then we made s'mores.

Did a bunch of yard work today. Got some patching seed and patched up same bad spots in the lawn. The front yard just needs a lil weeding and it will be in rockin shape. Backyard is another story. we really need some work to the deck, the hot-tub was torn apart a bit by the local animals over the winter. I really don't know how I would go about replacing the wood. Deck also need a new coat of... the stuff you paint it with. More on that later I guess.

Futurama has been great. The only issue I have is that each of the 3 episodes seem to have something that falls flat to me. The Susan Boil is just an example. Their return is a 11 out of 10, but these episodes have been sorta 8.5's good but not great.

I can't think of any more stuff to fill you in on. So, love to kate and see you all at TO!

Edit: forgot to mention, I'm on steam playing TF2 on public servers under the name Mebhy, or Mbragiel... not really sure what you would need to add me. But go ahead and try to find me.

    • Whats Up?

      Purdueohol

Yeah, I'm not dead. Although I'm sure if I was, you would have all never heard the end of it. Anyway, whats up with all of you? I'll explain what I've been doing in a sec, but I'm prob reading one page of journals of anyone on my alert list and then moving on. I heard about the bigger news for almost everyone through looking at Katie's laptop screen, but I want to hear what's going on.

Anyways, first things first, HAWKS WIN! WOOOOOOOO!!!!

Yeah, I watched with Katie from a BW3's on the northside of Indy. It was wonderful to feed on your tears Philly. oh nom nom nom.

      What else you say?
Just a couple weeks ago, I sold the house I grew up in. It was in my old hometown and little did I know that I had 41.6% ownership in it. Go figure? Made some money off it. Simple story, got a regulation 9ft pool table handed down though 3 generations out of it too.

Worked the last year with the Census. Can't really talk much about it, but I was in charge of people for a short time. Was fun, made $$.

Used money to buy a new(see: new to me, but it was used) car. Late 90's Mazda 626 or something like that. I don't really like it, but it works. I could sell it today for more than I paid for it, but I really don't want to shop for a car yet again. I love it so much I haven't even installed my radio yet. Oh, and my old intrepid died from huge front axle problems. It's ok though, I now own a car with functional headlights, A/C and a puke brown interior.... Damn that color sucks.

New compy. A custom build with beastly AMD Black Phenom II and a ATI 4850. If that sequence of words was gook to you, then just know that it's a great computer build. And yes, that means for the first time since 04' I'm back on a desktop. I still can't play Civ 4, unfortunately, but now it's not a computer problem. Oh, and it does run Win7 Ult.

Oh yeah, me and Kate now own more movies than we should because we need to buy a 2nd DVD shelf soon. We have overstuffed the TV stands capacity, and within about another 10-30 movies our current "just try to fill me I'm ginormous" shelf from Best Buy is full. Ok, that's an over-exaggeration, it's only the 2nd biggest shelf Best Buy has.

Cool things to know; Kate and I are going to Toronto, but it's the week before RvB TO. That way we're there before the crowds and you just know that everyone is only coping after us.

But in all seriousness, we are trying to plan another vacation just before TO because my mom has Resort Weeks that are going to expire if someone doesn't use them. So we are looking mainly into places that are sweet, near Indiana, and interesting. Which means the only answer is Chicago. Kidding. We're looking at AK, NC, SC, FL, TN and Virginia(because I don't remember the acronym). not sure where to go yet, but we are hoping to work it out.

To answer more questions, yes Katie's basement is taking in water. Yes, I know what's causing it, the duct work. No I'm not too sure how to fix it, but I have attempted to... not sure if it has worked yet. Oh, and the all the rainfall over the last 3 weeks hasn't helped either. A nearby dam broke this morning, and the flooding is near Kate's parents, kinda. Like we are a 25 min drive west and the flooding is like 9 mins south. Which makes the flooding kinda near us, but a whole lot closer to Katie's parents.

Oooo, reminding me of travel times and maps, I bought a GPS the day the Hawks won the cup. Katie lost it 3 days ago. The search continues.

Been kinda into twitter lately, Mbragiel is my username. Can't tweet off my phone though, which is also newish. Has a keyboard and everything you would want with a phone... but I just have a call/unlimited mins plan.

Been working out some on my new bike, (yeah we got bikes) but the lately daily 3 inches of rain and 7 hours of Lightning has kept me off of it lately. Lost some weight with it, but my goal is to be about 190 for TO, 15 pounds is a fair goal I think. (I remember being like 160 in High School, wow) 185 was what I was when i signed up for RT, so You can see it in my images. I can do it, just need time / no more storms.

The Science Channel is awesome, watch it.... but not too much our basic cable might drop it if they have to start paying for it.

What shit was that goal callback? I mean wow, talk about a "sport" with no accountability. (World Cup Soccer BTW) Been only watch a little, saw Americas first game, that was it so far. Will prob watch more if America makes the next round.

      Oh, welcome Nebraska.

Lets see here.... That's all of I can think of that you don't know.

In news that you do know.
Katie is the most amazing woman on the planet, and whatever other celestial body she may reside on.
Pixar's writers are not human, no human could write 11 of 11 excellent movies in 15 years. Although the only one I will allow gruff on is A bug's Life.

Yeah It's Bracket Time. It is the greatest time of the year in sports. 16 meaningful games in 12 hours. 2 days in a row. It is must see TV, if there ever is such a time. I'll throw up my bracket later... maybe... if I'm not totally destroyed. DAMN YOU ND, Luke Harrengoty, Choke Artist. If you don't win, I will hate you more than I already do.

Anyway, my bracket is ruined I'm sure. Too bad I have to work.

And to top it all off, your future Hall of Fame coach is retiring.

Also, I don't want my team to ever be restructuring if it means sending Shaun Alexander to the Redskins for half a game.

Again, you are making this a party issue. Anderson Cooper didn't mention parties. I know he's a Democrat but who cares? He isn't blaming a party.

I've seen negative media from both sides so I'm not really sure of this "media-wide" issue. I think if the media was one sided, the polls would be much more in favor of Obama. The fact that McCain is doing so well for himself means that people are blindly disregarding all information they get? I doubt that it's as one sided as you believe. But I can't know everything and I could be wrong. But I'm just saying that maybe you don't know everything either, about the media. It's quite a hard thing to get a good grasp on its entirety.

Well, I'm not voting for Obama anyways. I don't get how those bills the Bush and McCain introduced were blocked, the GOP owned Congress at those times. I also thought the little "Obama's advisors are rich people" segment was ridiculous. Is McCain putting people on his staff that make less than $1 million/year each? I doubt it.

Either way, I would NEVER vote McCain, even if he was the only person running.

The GOP and Dems are too damn corrupt. Taking into account the whole political spectrum, they're practically the same party. Thing is, I hate the GOP more for exploiting Christianity to get votes when they don't know what any Christian principles are.

I guess it's not just their fault. Too many "Christians" here are so ignorant of their own religion that they believe the GOP's bs...

      It's really pathetic actually.

Why act pre-emptively based on initial information? For the same reason that "suspicious activity" caused us to kill tons of Iraqis.

Besides, putting a few more agents on the case wouldn't be that big of a deal financially, especially in comparison to waging a war that we know nothing about and were terribly prepared for.

    • TheAlbacor

It wasn't about old events... It talks about 98, then immediately following says:

"FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country"

which indicates that it was currently going on.

    • TheAlbacor

That's a good way to keep the President busy instead of focusing on Russia, North Korea, Iraq, Afganistan, and every other thing the president works on.

Other countries also have to worry about them. But, small terrorist attacks can be done on just the US, which makes them priority. Besides, when is the last time another country actually attacked us?

Bush got that daily briefing and did nothing, I don't see why he isn't the one to blame. If it didn't look important, he wouldn't have been presented with it.

    • TheAlbacor

I'm no Democrat, so that Clinton example doesn't really matter to me. He was a shitty president as well...

Anyways, yeah, there is nothing we can do about it, but Bush could've increased surveillance. You know, spent more money on that BEFORE we go boom rather than waiting.

I read jewman's journal. That specific case is not the case for everyone there. One of the guys I've met who just came back from Iraq says that they had nothing to do where he was and so they got to just fire off rockets at shit to "test" things. Gene has a whole different situation.

Regardless, we just don't need that many troops and that much money put overseas. Of course, that's just my opinion, but I don't agree with war unless it's truly defensive.

    • TheAlbacor

Most of the experts so far have said that the Fannie Mae Freddie Mac thing is a pretty big deal. Sure, it might not put us on the edge of depression, but it pushes us closer.

I'm not saying we need Isolationism, I'm saying we need to cut back on our military spending. Send less troops to places that aren't hostile right now. Don't allow bored troops in Iraq to sit around shooting at stuff, wasting ammunition.

      I had to quote this:

We had good defenses just before Pearl Harbor and 9/11 but those things still happened didn't they? But unfortunately they came from threats that we didn't see and couldn't stop.

      We saw 9/11 coming:

"Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York."

      And Bush didn't do anything...

Also, there is a decent argument for FDR knowing that the planes were Japanese and simply not doing anything simply to get us into the war. It's really not all that far-fetched... not too long after:

"In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba."

It's funny to me because you make assumptions and draw conclusions without facts and numbers on this issue.

It's never mentioned how much the "government" now owes to China, Singapore, ect. You never get hard numbers and the amount to these countries could theoretically be less than 1%. There is risk involved, yes; but this may be overblowing it a bit.

First off, you have no idea if what I'm saying has anything to do with assumptions. Don't accuse me of making assumptions just because you don't feel like looking into something on your own.

Secondly, you seem to be the one assuming, as I've heard this stuff before. You think it's around 1%? Try 25% to foreign countries, with one of the largest lenders being China:

The biggest chunk (about 25 percent of the $8.5 trillion total) is held by foreign governments. Japan tops the list (with $644 billion), followed by China ($350 billion), United Kingdom ($239 billion) and oil exporting countries ($100 billion).

Oh ok, that makes sense. Why not just give every person in the United States a bulldozer and give them freedom to just go wild over all of America's farmland. NAFTA allows us to control and regulate the environmental and Agucultural standards not just in our country but in Canada and Mexico as well. Canadas standards I'm not as worried about, but you can't tell me Mexico wound not just lower standards to keep the jobs in their country to the point that it would make it profitable for 90% of those jobs to stay their.

NAFTA hasn't done anything in those countries but get rid of small business and let our corporations rape their cultures. Well, at least not for the Third World countries. And if Mexico lowers standards more, we increase tariffs... Free Trade just doesn't work if you close off borders. If we want "Free" Trade our national borders need to become more like our state borders.

Breaking promises and agreements is no way to run a country. They happen all the time but aren't good for foreign relations.

America is founded on broken promises and continues many of them to this day. Like stopping the "Free Trade" end of the deal is the worst we've done...

The military is made up of over 820 installations in no fewer than 39 countries. And that is entirely overseas numbers. The largest numbers occurring in Iraq, Germany, Japan, South Korea and finally Afghanistan(and in that order). All in occupation state and 2 going through current conflict.

Summary: Our military has it's shit in places that are none of their business.

Just by proposing that you want to make an military that is spread out across 39 countries less funding. That's putting less money into education, training, armaments, defense, stabilizing occupied countries and jeopardizing troops in battle for the worlds second-largest military. And even dumber in an recruitment surge. Over the next 5 years the military is bringing on 20,000 more troops over the previous cap.

Well, first off: we don't need any of those troops where they currently are. 2nd: How about instead of attacking things relentlessly, we try actually forcing the Department of Defense to live up to its name and find ways to defend us with our engaging in pre-emptive murder?

Also, this is what the "free market" in the financial sector does. And it says why it's dangerous:

Instead, it's an expensive ploy to keep the sovereign wealth funds and central banks of China, Kuwait and Singapore from foreclosing on their Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debt and plunging the U.S. economy into chaos.

It's funny to me, because now that the government technically owns those companies, they owe MORE DEBT to China... Great, let's give them more leverage to fuck our economy up the ass. Bush should have never cut any taxes in the first place, and should have definitely changed them after he started the war. But no, the Republican party, who was in control at the time, was incredibly irresponsible and actually has us tip-toeing the edge of a huge depression... It's really ironic that they preach "personal responsibility" all the time, and yet none of them will want to take credit for this huge mistake.

What we need is to show, prove and make possible that the best place to be the most profitable is to employ in America.

The best way to accomplish that is to get rid of NAFTA. Force the "American" companies to pay tariffs to ship their stuff back here so they can't just benefit from exploit the people in other countries with less safety regulations for profits.

The government paying for R&D is nothing like smoking and digging ditches... The first place the government needs to cut: the military.

When you have lower taxes with a smaller government, you get people that can achieve higher incomes and businesses that can create higher profits. With these higher incomes and higher profits, new jobs are created and attracted to our market.

Yeah, except that many companies are creating their new jobs in other countries and making more and more money so they can just create MORE jobs in those countries. Large income disparity leads to horrible inequality and therefore ends up restricting freedoms. Also, investments in and of themselves don't necessarily do anything, especially if they invest in a foreign market, like many rich people, or if they simply buy a ton of homes.

The economy just doesn't fix itself, otherwise what would be the need for economic control measures and representatives?

With a small recession like this, yeah, it does. Unless, like i said, other things go wrong in the financial sector. Have you done any research into the economy and how it functions?

      U.S.GDP.gif

With the exception of the 1930s, none of these things NEEDED a policy change by the U.S. government or the Fed.

Tax cuts aren't going to help anything but improve the already immense deficit. Again, recessions are cyclical, it will leave on its own, unless we find out that there has been even more stupidity in the financial sector...

And yeah, if he raises taxes enough, it could hurt. However, he's mostly proposing to raise it on the rich, who already save a large amount of their money. Stopping them from saving and instead having the government spend it domestically would be a good idea. Increasing taxes on the working and middle classes who already spend a large portion of their income would be the idiotic thing to do.

Increasing taxes allows the government to spend more money domestically and put funds back into things like education and funding for alternative fuel r&d.

Recessions are a natural part of the business cycle...

Doesn't matter what he claims. He's a Democrat. Besides, even if he wants to spend more, he also wants to tax more, thus offsetting the spending. That's a much better strategy than the Republican party's irresponsible "blow money because we can!" plan.

Go compare budget deficits and how fast they rise under presidents of the last 50 years... you'll see which party is more conservative with the budget.

First, your analogy is horribly flawed.

Second, that was sarcasm. I'm sure McCain would spend just as much as Bush if he could get elected.
