Yesterday was the second time I was the FU and I missed it again! What the Hell!!!

I wasn't online yesterday because I was too tired from work. I would like to thank everyone who has stopped by and left a comment. Thank you I feel loved. And a big thanks to Elnea for taking a screen shot! You're the best!

I'll try to get back to your messages, but I have to warn you I'm a terrible procrastinator and now with this new job I'll be worse. I'll only be able to read and reply after work and on the weekends. Once again THANK YOU! smiley12.gifsmiley12.gifsmiley12.gifsmiley12.gifsmiley12.gif

Oh yeah and today was pay day. Life is good!

my loyal fans I am not dead, mearely beaten near death by school. Turns out I only have about 2 years to graduate, the only problem is that only have science courses to take from now on, oy.

I think my photography will start seriously this year since I have the basic equipment for a dark room (enlarger, trays, print dryer, etc) that I bought from a guy for $100. Thanks Trickcoyote! The only problem is that I lack the funds to buy chemicals and paper, which can get expensive. Looks like I need a job! Anyone have a position open in the Houston area?

For spring break we went to South by Southwest in Austin which was awesome! We only went for a day 'cause it was a last minute thing, but it was worth it. We'll definatly have to plan for next year and go fo the full week. I would like to get a badge or wrist band but those things run above $100!

That's the only interesting stuff that has happened to me lately, so until my life becomes more interesting, later!

New Sony Vaio laptop!!! With Vista!

I've beeen wanting to get a new computer lately. I wanted a Toshiba or an HP but Best Buy has these puppies on sale for $699.99 so I went for it. It has 1g memory, Intel duo 1.6 ghz, 80 g hard drive space, and home premium.

The only problem is that it's one of those Mac knock off laptops so I'm afraid to touch it too much and get it dirty. Ah well that's what clearscreen is for.

I would like to take a moment to commenmorate a person who has recently been lost to us in the Red Vs Blue community. Mansoor Tanweer aka sleepyguy was an avid P&CE participator and that is where I met him. I met him in the Discussion on Christianity Thread, and after discussing there for a few minutes he sent me a friend invite. Which I felt honored because just by reading a few posts, I found him to be an interesting and intellegent person. He was intolerant of people who blindly follow religion without real insight or understanding. He was always willing to enlighten people or correct missconceptions about his own religion (Islam).

But beyond that, he was a really funny guy. He would chime in everyonce ina while to give a funny statement about something or post an ammusing picture. He would keep the discussion light and help everyone cool off from a heated debate. That's not to say he was just a jokester, absolutly not. He was very intelligent and was able to debate with the best of them in the P&CE thread and for that I respected him. It's sad to hear that such a promising man was ripped from our world and so suddenly. We was on a trip to Greece and died in a car accident soon after his plane landed. He was not thinking about death thay day, just gettig home to see his family. That's what saddens me the most is that his family was not able to see him after being gone for a long time and to see him only after his death. I wish the best for his family and can only wish them peace after this is over.

Being behind the times as I am I finally got aroung to playing Half Life. No not on the PC but I bought the Playstation 2 version, used of coursse and for $10. The first night I played it I got the worse case of video game related nausea and headache that I havn't felt since I played my first first person shooter (it was Turok Dinosuar Hunter on N64). But it was fun. Everytime an alien juped out at me I screamed, to my boyfriend's delight. While playing it I used the quick save option often but didn't save it onto the mermory card and lost all my progress. So I had to play it over again to get to where I was. I think it's going to take me a while to beat the game since I won't be able to play it often, being away at college and all, but I bought it mostly so I can have something to play during the summer. After I beat this one I'm looking at getting Half Life 2 on the xbox.

I also learned something about myself while playing it. I take an unhealth joy out of video game violence. Everytime I picked up a new weapon I giggled happily and was eager to "test it out". Also I loke to hit anything with the crowbar and say "Smashy, smashy." But All gamers have that characteristic right? Right. No wonder the rest of the world tinks we're insane.

Last summer I worked in an anatomy lab at a medical school and I had to do unspeakable things to them. I don't talk about it much because I don't know how people react to it but the most disturbing part is I actually enjoyed it,

Yeah, I sometimes wonder that I may eclipse my queasy section and come out on other side a total sicko. smiley8.gif

in theory you can still "taste" if you've lost your sense of taste.

Kind of ruining my whole argument there, Queenie.

Speaking of PCR, I've heard that the inventor, was high on PCP when he developed it so that might the answer. I must take illegal hallucinogenic drugs...FOR SCIENCE!.

That is urban legend. Actually, the guy who thought PCR up wrote an article for Scientific American a few years after it became widely known, because he said people were always coming up to him and saying, "It's so simple. Why didn't I think that up!!" The story he tells is that he was doing a cross-country drive with his girlfriend and it was the middle of the night and she was asleep and he was trying to stay awake so he started thinking about work and DNA replication. You know he was a nerd.

So, I can say with fairly good confidence that this guy was not on PCP. One, because people who take PCP as a drug, in particular, don't tend to hold up well at big scientific conventions or progress very well in academia in general, and two, because he wrote this article so shortly after it all came about and told his exact train of thought and it all made perfect sense.

Also, it is so incredibly simple that I am pissed off I didn't think of it. I don't think you'd have to be in a state of drug-induced psychosis to figure it out. Just really bored.

How do you use an oboe as a weapon?

If I tell you I'd have to kill you.

Do you jab it into the aorta and watch the blood flow out of the instrument then catch it with a chalice of victory? Or do 20 of you get together and play loudly 'til they melt like nazis in Raider of the Lost Ark? Not very covert.

Neither. I play a note so high it's out of the normal hearing range, but is so piercing it actually pierces your brain...in four places. Quickly.

I look forward to playing for you soon. smiley0.gif

I need to trade body stories with you. So far my eye twitches for no reason, my jaw pops on one side every time I open my mouth, I have a weird hollow skin covered hole in my arm. Recently I was having some pain on the back of my thigh that moved to my calf. I was worried it might of been a clot. And now every time I walk or stand on my toes I have this numbing feeling in one of my toes, like one of my nerves is pinched.

Oh yeah! Well my knee buckled up the other day when I went jogging! And my belly button is bleeding for no reason!

RE your question about why the 5 alpha reductase deficiency syndrome is uncommon in most Westernized nations:

Actually, it is very uncommon anywhere. The original Dominican Republic village where this was described, I think, was very small and therefore every case could plausibly have come from a single ancestor. You have to realize that if you have a small population of people, everyone is basically having babies with their cousins, and from the inbreeding you get all sorts of weird mutations. There are scattered reports of this... wait, I'll go see if I can scare up something on Google....

Okay, Here's an article which says the countries that have turned up the most cases of this are in the Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, and Brazil, and certain areas in the Middle East (Gaza strip). So, pretty rare, anywhere on Earth.

The Middle East reports (I saw several about Egypt) remind me of something else that makes sense. At Hopkins we used to see a lot of patients from the United Arab Emirates because these patients insisted on marrying within their own families - much as European monarchs used to do. If you can only marry royal blood, and there are only 50 royals around, it limits the gene pool a bit. So the patients would get these really weird rare genetic eye diseases and then have to come out to Johns Hopkins where we would tell them they had weird genetic eye diseases because they married their cousins.

So in Western culture, the taboo against inbreeding might be partly a factor. The other thing is that nowadays if a baby is born with ambiguous genitalia, rather than just whacking off whatever might be sticking out and telling the parents to raise the baby as a girl , which is what was done in the olden days, now there are genetic and hormonal tests that can be done. In this case, the parents would know to raise the kid as a boy so when he reaches puberty he won't be confused by the whole penis thing.

You know, more than the normal amount of confusion everyone else has about their own ... thing.

Ah, I see. Yeah, bungie jumping and boxing both involve an outside force whacking your head and eyes around. And both of those seem like unnecessarily dangerous activities in terms of your entire body. ...which reminds me that Sugar Ray Leonard was a patient I think at Hopkins (or was it at U of I in Chicago?) I can't remember... but my chairman was an attending when Sugar Ray suffered his first (of at least 2) retinal detachments, both (all?) related to boxing injuries. Now that I think about it, I can't honestly say that letting someone punch one in the head over and over makes really that much more sense than staring at the sun or putting a vibrating massager on one's eyes.

      Sometimes people are silly.

    • Elnea FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

LOL! My friend, you can jerk your own head around as much as you like and it is unlikely you could do much damage to your eyes. You may not realize it, but everytime you blink your eyes, your eyes roll up in your head... believe me, your eyes jerk around more just looking at a mural than they would if you were bouncing your head to music.

I mean, you might squish your BRAIN doing that, but your eyes, in general, can take it. Especially in a young person like yourself.

Now, if someone ELSE tried to jerk your head around, either by violently shaking you, or bouncing a softball off of your eye, or running into you with their car, that could cause problems (and would be very rude) but it is unlikely you could do damage your own eyeswith movement alone...

...actually, though, now that you mention it, I do remember reading a case report about some woman who was using some sort of vibrating massager on her eyes (closed I hope!) and managed to induce a retinal tear and subsequent detachment in her eye. I guess she thought her eyes were really tense or something. Weird. So, I suppose, there is a certain amount of common sense one has to use. smiley8.gif

I'm honored you thought of me. If you ever have any eye-related questions, feel free to ask!!

      Have a great week!
