    • HTML, CSS Coding Help

      Raphy

Are you familiar with HTML and CSS? I'm working on something, that I can't really reveal right now, and need some very basic help. So if you know someone with coding experience or if that someone is you, send me a comment, a message, an e-mail, a telephone-a-gramulator, whatever you want really as long as it's a form of communication.

Compensation: I can pay you in artwork. Logo's, banners, portraits. We'll work something out to where your work done is properly reciprocated in art or design. For samples of some of my work, you can visit my deviantart gallery: www.rafaelirizarry.deviantart.com/

    • It's my Birthday!

      Raphy

I'm eighteen years old today. I had my birthday party on Thanksgiving with close family, today I'm just having a small lunch with a few friends. So my childhood journey ends and comes to a close, I now have the long winding road of adulthood to look forward to.

    • Hard at work...

      Raphy

I'm just utterly and completely engrossed in work and stress. That translates to, my time is valuable and I can only afford to do productive things, so I am constantly, for lack of a better word, hard-pressed to create new artwork on a daily basis. So if I'm tired and want to unwind, I pull out my sketchbook, or I pull out my Moleskine, or I bring up Photoshop, or I paint all in the hopes that by the end of my Senior year of Highschool I'll have a body of work and to put the best of that work into a portfolio for College. There's actually this fantastic program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art's I'm in where I take Oil Painting on Tuesday, Fundamental Drawing on Wednesday, and Life Drawing on Thursday. It's a very demanding schedule (to me at least) waking up around 5am and getting home around 7pm, but at the same time I'm learning from a man named Al Gury. So I'm okay with that, as long as I'm learning more about art and as long as I'm improving as an artist. So what I'm saying is, what makes it worth while is the experience. Which is why I've adopted a modus operandi of I can only do artwork that can bring me closer to having a good portfolio.

So as a teenager on the precipice of adulthood, with College looming in the distance I've started to question myself. What are you going to do? What are you going to be? How are you going to get there? "The journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step" -Confucius. In my head, I just keep telling myself: "Just keep drawing. Just keep painting. Just keep creating, and you can sort it out later. It'll be okay.". And that sounds great, until you try and tell it to anyone else. So right now I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. Trying my hardest to learn about both traditional and digital mediums, and see where that leads me.

      If you've got some time...
If you've got some time, Stephen Silver does an Artcast on Ustream every Tuesday. If you have any questions about art as a career or just questions in general about art, I'd highly recommend tuning into one of his Artcast's. I've asked Stephen so many questions and he's helped me with a bunch of things. If you hear "Rafael" in any of his Artcast's that's usually always me with a question. Artcast by Silver

The same goes for Bobby Chiu. If you really want a challenge Bobby does the Chiustream, and he's helped tons of people myself included. The Chiustream is more of a participatory experience. You paint with Bobby for an hour, he usually picks the topic, and he gives out prizes. Original Artwork, iPhone Apps, Sketchbooks all the while dishing out advice. Chiustream on Ustream, Imaginism Studios

Here are a few sketches I keep in a little flash drive in my messenger bag. I put them on there to show my art teacher at school a few digital sketches. That was back before I started digitally painting, painting at all really.

So keep doing what your doing guys, keep motivated, keep going, keep moving forward, and STAY INTENSE. If there's something that you think you can't do, go out and do it. Go out and try it. Remember, "Imagination rules the world" -Napoleon Bonaparte.

It was great. In the two days I attended "so much had already happened that by the rules of drama, by the end of the night, one person will be dead and one person who is not physically capable of being pregnant will be pregnant". I met some really cool people.
      29d91u9.png
The Walking Tour aka Jenga's Murder Walk. Handshakes and high-fives. Sweat and leg pain. Running up the Art Museum stairs as people sang "The Eye of the Tiger" and "The Rockey Theme". I think...I'm not sure but I think DiMono picked me up with one hand. His strength sure exceeds human bounds. We went to "The Irish Pub" and to nourish our broken bodies with food and for some booze. At one point, Jeskid took his cheese-steak and snapped it in half with a bite.

      2cxawaw.png
The Main Event aka The Widow Maker. I realized that, events are a lot of work. I manned the Trocadero booth for a little bit, and then the ticket counter. Helped people. Things of that nature. I even got Becca a sandwich. I sent Vicki a huge file from Illustrator of all the vector stuff I did for RT Philly. She took those pieces of artwork and used those to make these awesome fliers and Press Badges. Mine read "RT Philly Art Director Raphael "Raphy" August 15, 2009."

Memorable quotes from Saturday: "Hey Nico, I love your music". NIco: "And it loves you." There was a Q&A where Jenga asked questions while playing the actual game of Jenga. Martha and Nico played a great live set! They played Still Alive while Martha sang GLaDOS's parts through her megaphone. smiley1.gif There was also a raffle! For five dollars you could get a chance to be drawn by Luke McKay, to win a limited edition Grifball action figure, RT:Comics Year's One & Two, and a signed copy of "The Ice-Cream Theory". There was also a secret raffle prize.

Buh, this is getting long. Jesse Cowell "Shades of Grey" was awesome. Chili's was great. And Martha's probably the nicest rock star on the face of this planet. I really wanted a CD but they were in the car so I just said I would get one tomorrow from Nico but I couldn't make it Sunday so Nico probably thinks I'm a huge liar. I'm going to order it online and see if I can mail it to him for an autograph.

P.S: Nico, Becca, Martha, Jeskid, Knives_Kill, Fienne, Jengaship, Rocketwhore, Nozi, Woo_HA27, Spamman4587, Enforcer2005, RandomRVBfan, TheSylvester, Machinimarox, Soul_Tiller, Microbe, and Tetrameth are awesome.

This summers off to a lazy start. Looking forward to a lot of drawing and a lot of outdoor activities as well. Joined the Golfing Team at my high school and we get free lessons every Tuesday at the FDR golfing course starting July. That's going to be pretty fun. I'm really interested in it because I have no idea how to play the game of golf, and I'd love to learn. That and it's so close to where I live I can just walk.

It's my third sponsorship here on Rooster Teeth. Still here. smiley1.gif

It's true. I'm at a loss for words! I just can't believe it! I'd just like to take this time to thank Luke McKay. One of the coolest guys I've never met (yet). I've always been a big fan of his ever since I joined the site. So this one's for you Luke!

So today I'm going to get a haircut then going to run some errands. I'm going to A.C. Moore to get a sketch book and some pencils. Since I'm just starting out and don't take any art classes I've turned to my good pal the internet. I found this. You can make your own profile and take lessons at your own pace.

I'm saving up for this should be able to afford it in about two weeks. I asked Rooster Teeth Staff Artist Luke McKay if he had any tips for an aspiring young artist. I think he'd have some good advice.

Hey, I'm designing press pass type things for the RT Philly volunteers, and I'm using your logo. It looks good, but is there any chance you saved a version with the layers separate for the cockbite logo and the liberty bell? I'm having trouble balancing the artwork on the template size the way it is and it'd be a lot easier to make it look right if I had the two elements separate. If not, I can work with it as is. Just curious!
