I know I haven't posted an update in a while, but things have been pretty hectic lately.

On January 6th, I was up in Montréal for my wife's visa interview. However, it was the trip up to see her in which the "fun" began. While I was stopped for fuel and food at a Sheetz in Grove City, Pennsylvania, someone decided to back into my car. I had noticed the offending individual prior to entering the establishment. He was a middle-aged man with three children, driving a brand-new SUV. The kids were unruly little bastards. One even thought it was hilarious to set off the car alarm and lock everyone else out of the vehicle. I could tell that the poor man and his wife were becoming a bit unraveled, but I paid them no mind because I had to take a piss. I was slightly surprised when I emerged from the restroom after evacuating my bladder to find the distressed father. He asked me if I was driving a vehicle with Virginia plates and I, of course, said that I was. He then proceeded to explain that he had backed into me as we walked out of the convenience store. He accompanied me as I went to survey the damage to my car, his insurance information in hand. The damage seemed minor and it was New Year's Eve at the time, so we simply exchanged information and I set off on my journey to my wife's house.

Skipping ahead a few days, we find my wife and I driving from North Bay, Ontario, to Montréal, Quebec, to attend her interview for her immigration visa. Things were going swimmingly as the weather was lacking that typical Canadian fury. I was looking to acquire some morning sustenance when I spotted a sign for a Burger King in the upcoming town, Deep River, Ontario. My bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast croissant was, on the whole, an unsatisfactory experience. The staff of this particular Whopper home were not to blame. Rather the pickup truck from which a rather large block of ice had fallen was the culprit of my misery due mainly to the fact that the said ice had fallen into the front of my car, shattering the front left bumper. Still, I trudged on to Montréal and my wife was approved for her visa.

Upon returning to the States, I had to set up a double claim. The Pennsylvania man had struck me in the right bumper, the ice on the left. Allstate handled the right, State Farm handled the left. Somehow it worked beautifully and I got my car back without paying a dime.

That's all I wanted to say about the car, so on to better things.

I moved my wife down on the 21st of February. We had originally applied for a CR-1/IR-1 visa. Basically, the distinguishing characteristic between the two is that the CR-1, or Conditional Residency, applies for those that have been married less than two years and the IR-1, or Immediate Relative, is for those married two or more years. When my wife interviewed back in January, we had still been married less than two years. However, the date of entry into the country is the one that counts and with our anniversary being February 20th, we were over the two year mark for marriage when we arrived at the border. The border agent still only granted her the CR-1, which I was initially furious about, but I didn't want her to be denied access so I didn't raise a big fuss. However, the one key difference between the two is that with the CR-1 you are granted a two-year residency card and have to fill out more paperwork (and pay about $600 in fees) to get the conditionally status removed at the end of the two years. The IR-1 grants you a ten-year renewable residency card. I'm still waiting for her residency card to arrive so I can get that mess straight, though we did receive her social security card. Anyway, she's down and settled (somewhat). We are currently starting to renovate the house, one room at a time. This has left me little time to surf RT. Sorry, guys and gals. smiley2.gif

Well, I guess I should discuss the title of the journal for my final paragraph...I'm an idiot. I was working today and was trying to cut a plastic spacer with a razor blade. The blade slipped, I slipped, and the only thing I ended up cutting was my wrist. Vertically. Oh the blood I lost (more than a cup I think). I administered first aid myself and the only people that are aware that I even hurt myself are those I told. My long-sleeve hooded jacked helped to hide the wrist wrapping. As far as the many blood stains are concerned, we use carpet tiles at work and I'm friends with one of the Facilities guys, so he's replacing the soiled tiles in the morning. I nearly Darwined myself. smiley4.gif

Anyway, I miss you all and I hope to post more often (as long as the ball & chain isn't around).

As you may have noticed, I've been a little inactive the past couple of weeks.

The Tuesday following Thanksgiving, I went in for surgery to have two sebaceous cysts removed from under my chin. They popped up a few months ago for God knows why and even though they were rarely inflamed, they annoyed the shit out of me.

I decided that it was also a good time to have a BB removed from my elbow that I've had in there for about four or five years. Originally, when I was shot through the elbow in a 'house war' that I had partaken in with a few fraternity brothers, the BB was right next to my bone and the ER surgeon refused to operate to remove it. Over these few short years, my body had begun expelling the foreign matter pushing it to my skin. Since I was going under the knife already, this was an easy additional procedure.

After surgery, I was given a prescription to Percocet (oxycodone/paracetamol) and sent on my merry way. Pain pills have a way of making one not give a fuck about anything else, so I would just lay in bed all day after getting home from work watching shows or reading. Fucking boring, eh?

So, there's the reason for the brief absence.

On a related note, the Tuesday I went in for surgery, my dog had to be put to sleep due to lung cancer. smiley2.gif

Okay, I would have included these pictures in the previous journal, but I feel they deserve some of their own lovin'!

These pictures are of some of the best costumes (or creations as is the case for one of these) that I saw at the convention. This is not a complete list, by far, as for many I was unable to get a good picture if I was even able to get one.

      180.jpg

      181.jpg

      182.jpg

      183.jpg

I thought I'd close with some Master Chief, so enjoy!

      184.jpg

      185.jpg

      186.jpg

      187.jpg

That's it! Thanks for reading/looking and I promise to be more timely about posting the journals next year!

Here's the third part of my Dragon*Con journal series for this year.

I just wanted to say that the amount of different mediums and genres covered at the convention was amazing.

      158.jpg

      164.jpg

      165.jpg

      166.jpg

      167.jpg

And now we interrupt your journal in progress to bring you this fun puzzle for all ages. Where's Waldo?

      168.jpg

      Now back to the journal...

While roaming the halls, I came upon a small meetup of DC characters.

      169.jpg

      170.jpg

      171.jpg

      172.jpg

What is this? A Marvel visitor passing through? Yes, that is the Juggernaut. As you could probably guess, I was unable to stop him to take a picture.

      173.jpg

It turns out he was headed to the Marvel meetup, which was much larger.

      174.jpg

      175.jpg

      176.jpg

      177.jpg

      178.jpg

      179.jpg

Stay tuned for the last and final entry where I post some of my favorite costumes!

    • Flames and Scales, Second Fragment

      RavenAdonis

Finally, I'm posting the second part!

      137.jpg

Okay, so I'm over a month behind. Well, it took a bit to go through the pictures and choose some decent ones. The convention is really busy and it's hard to stop and take pictures, so a lot of them weren't good enough to post.

Anyway, as a follow up to my previous Dragon*Con journal, I thought I'd post just a couple of pictures I was able to have taken in the autograph area. The first of which is just the list of all the people that were willing to give out autographs. I apologize for the low quality. I was using my phone.

      138.jpg

      139.jpg

      140.jpg

      141.jpg

Here's where I should start posting some of the costumes, but I thought I'd share a couple of photos from the Dragon*Con's "Night at the Georgia Aquarium". It was definitely a different experience as a majority of people were in costume and they had a DJ in the center area blasting music while people danced. I'd do it again!

      142.jpg

      143.jpg

      144.jpg

      145.jpg

      146.jpg

Moving onto the actual convention, it was hosted at several hotels in downtown Atlanta (such at the Marriott Marquis shown below).

      147.jpg

It was very crowded, but I only took pictures when the crowd wasn't as bad as you didn't really have room or time to do it when it was.

      148.jpg

      149.jpg

      150.jpg

      151.jpg

      152.jpg

We did have some of the coolest security, though.

      153.jpg

      154.jpg

      155.jpg

      156.jpg

I'm going to post the third and final part of this journal series shortly with some more pictures from the event. Please stay tuned!

PS - When I say shortly, I mean as soon as I type it up. You won't have to wait over a month again!!!

It's not that I mind using Paint, I just want to ... y'know.,.. improve. Do more. I'm actually kind of shocked at some of the stuff I've produced in Paint. like this: 30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lv6o313Isj1r699dpo1_r1_400.jpg But I just want to try other things and see if I can be better. I've never been much of an artist, I'm trying to fix that.

you seem to be really down on season 9 and i have to disagree...

i mean the progression of episodes is better that star wars IV to star wars I...
yes - they are using more CGI/animation, but for a purpose, not as a plot point!
Lucas said he would do a WHOLE MOVIE as CGI if he could to eliminate human presence...
RT is just trying to use animation to add some excitement to the experience...

i wish i could forward something that would have you like the continuing series more! smiley2.gif

I think smaller data points are needed for the motion capturing everywhere...especially the mouths.

Then again, the Couns may have a birth defect or perhaps he protected his comrades by jumping on a mine (mouth first).

I read that as something racist at first and laughed.
