Okay, so I finally finished coloring the first page of my submission to ZudaComics.com's competition. This is an original concept and story about a completely self-created world.

The lines were done by Gregory Woronchak based on my script.

The colors and lettering were done by me....by the way....I'm going to avoid writing wide-angle cityscape shots into the rest of the comic, lol. This was a bitch. I'd never done a city before as i usually use stock images or photos taken by myself as backgrounds for my own art. Either way, I think it turned out amazing...y'know...for me.

      n1colored.jpg

Man...I feel like a real comic writer looking at this...and it's just an establishing shot!!!

Okay, so I've had my Playstation 3 for a few months now and I'm about to utter something I never thought I'd say out loud (well, technically it's not "out loud" per se, but I digress)...

I think I may leave my Xbox...

Now, don't get me wrong...I still love my 360, she'll always hold a special place in my heart. And, well, we'll still be friends and hang out on the weekends.

Okay, okay. In all seriousness, though, I am becoming more and more impressed with my PS3 with ever game I play on it. I've always said that there was no doubt that the Big Black Beast could put out more Pretty Power than the White Goddess, but I'd always sprayed forth the usual Microsoft-loving arguments about how the system doesn't have enough exclusives to hold it's own and that Sony doesn't really give a shit about gaming as much as multi-media entertainment (BluRay movies and music and shit like that). And, for the most part, I'm not entirely wrong. Sony still has a fundamental lack of exclusive titles for which I can justify scorning the Achievement Whore within my skull and they're focus still seems to be more about making money than making good games.

That said, however, there are more things about the PS3 that I'm loving than there are things that I think the good ol' 360 does better. These things include:

Free online gaming in the form of Playstation Network. I mean, c'mon! Brilliant! Why should I have to pay a monthly fee to play with my friends online and then turn around and pay MORE for content that I can ONLY get if I pay the aforementioned fee for which to play with my friends? Sony, as far as I can tell, simply taxes its individual content and sets you loose with an abundance of options that you have to get past Microsoft's velvet rope by showing your Gold Membership card to their surly semi-bald bodyguard.

Direct purchasing of downloadable content. When I first dove into PSN with my hold-it-at-arm's-length-cause-it-bites attitude, I was upset that Sony taxed their content forced you to buy content separately (or in a bundle, I later discovered). I was like, "Maaaan, Microsoft taxes you once and then you pay the "price" you see right there." Under further scrutiny, however, it quickly became apparent that this was a much better and consumer friendly method. Now, instead of spending $6 for 500 points to download a game worth 350 points--leaving me with 150 that I'll never be able to spend on anything other than a theme or gamerpic--I can just spend 1.99 (about 2.15 after taxes) for that extra character I wanted and be done with it. No more of the Hotdogs vs Buns scenario.

No Red Ring of Death. 'nuff said.

On top of those two specific things, I'd have to say that there are a few minor things like better graphics and the USB controller charging and, not to mention, the new Trophy System that I like more. All of these things combined have led me to the decision that from now on, unless it's an FPS (cause, let's face it, there's just no way around how awesomely comfortable the Xbox controller is) or a game that offers multiplayer for which my friends and I are interested in playing together, I am going to be buying multi-platform games on my PS3; seemingly starting with Batman: Arkham Asylum.

That is, of course, unless Sony releases a controller with off-set analog sticks. Then it's game over, man...

Be back soon with my thoughts on inFamous; a PS3 exclusive that was "shocking"....

      Get it...

      Later!

I am currently workin' on my very first piece of Wheel of Time fanart. I'm only a few books in (halfway through The Dragon Reborn) but I'm already a HUGE fan of the series, its characters and their world. Robert Jordan (R.I.P) crafted such an amazing epic you can't help but get pulled in. Even when the story suffers the inevitable Slow-Downs and the pacing slows to a crawl, I'm finding myself still turning pages with vigor--something that usually only happens when I'm reading a Star Wars novel (the newest of which I put down in leu of getting back to WoT; an unprecidented event).

Anyway, I'd been wanting to do a drawing with my fiancé, Jennifer (ZeliahGazer) and I together; I'd drawn her a lot but have only done one of her and I together (unless you count the OaG in which I asked her to marry me in). Given that idea and the desire to do a WoT fanart, I decided to do Jennifer as an Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah and myself as her Warder. I've gotten the lineart done and last night I laid the Flats (solid colors)--the longest part of my art-making process--and tonight I should be able to finish it. I'm really happy with how it looks so far and look forward to finishing it and posting the final piece up here.

Well, that's about the extent of my brain drivel this morning. Normally I end my journals with a heart linked to Jenn's page, but I'm writing this on my phone, so, I can't. So, instead...

      I LOVE YOU, JENNIFER!

      Later!

What? Shit, man, the Wheel will weave all up in your grill.

    • As a Geek...

      ...this pisses me off.

Apparently, the Sci-Fi Channel--a network whose very creation and sole purpose was to supply the masses new and original science fiction programming as well as making butt-loads of money airing re-runs of old science fiction fan favorites that other networks no longer had any interest in--is, get this, "distancing itself" from the people they were fucking created to appeal to! It would seem that the brilliance behind the creation of a network so named for it's programming is suddenly unhappy with the image that their name (which tells you what's on the damn network!) illicits! That's like saying that the Football Network feels that their name makes people think of only football and, thereby, only attracts the kind of people that watch football! Or that the Food Network only calls forth the image of...you guessed it...food!

I can't help it...this makes me a little irritated in principal alone. However, the real clincher...the proverbial thumb that masshed down hard on the big red button of my Atomic Anger was the following quote:

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,†said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network. (pulled from tvweek.com)

Dude...insulting the very people who put money in your fucking pocket by watching the network you created for them does not good business sense make. And, to make matters worse, what're they changing the name to?!

      ....drumroll please....

      Syfy..."Sih-fee"...?

      What the hell is that?!?!

You've gone from a name that advertises what you air to a made up word that, on it's own, doesn't even mean anything! Seriously...what is wrong with these people?!

      Y'know what?

      Fuck you, Sih-fee...

      Fuck you.

Okay, so we all know what day it is, right? (pst, dude who wasn't paying attention...it's Valentine's Day....no....yeah, that Valentine's Day...yeah...yeah, okay...)

      Okay, where was I?

      Oh. Right.

So, anyway, normally I'm not a big fan of this "holiday" (I cringe at the use of the word, but it's the only one I can think of that's appropriate) for the same reasons most people are "anti-V-day". My reasons, though, extend beyond the fact that it's a holiday that seems primarily designed sap your wallet; shit, anymore most holidays are like that. No, see, my problem is that people seem to think that Valentine's Day is the only day on which one should do extravagent things to show their affection and devotion to their significant others. Just like Christmas seems to be the only time of the year where people can be nice to strangers...but that's for another journal altogether.

No, see, the thing with me is, why should you wait until Feb 14th to wear your love on your sleeve? I mean, really...isn't that the reason you are with this person anyway? I mean, y'know, aside from the sex...duh. But, honestly, if you can't buy flowers or write a poem on any other day of the year and surprise your loved one, then why the hell should they care today? In fact, why shouldn't they get irritated at the notion that you're only doing these things because Hallmark has a card that says you should?

      Right?

      Anyone?

Okay, well, that's how I feel about it, anyway...

If you can't say something nice (with your own words or pay some writer royalties to use his words on a piece of folded cardboard) all the time, why bother to do it today?

Now, all that being said, I am capable of dishing out the sap on any given day of the year. So, on that note...

smiley12.gif I LOVE YOU JENNIFER. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, BABEH! smiley12.gif

      The rest of you...

Have a good day, neh? smiley0.gif

First off, I'm sick. Fuck you Mother Nature!

That said, I am here to profess a love for the greatest multiplayer experience known to me (notice I said me there and not something less opinnion-specific like man). What is this bation of co-op gameplay, you ask? This orchestra of teamwork for the betterment of the group?

Well, shit, if you don't know, you're already dead...or...UNdead! Dun-dun-DUUUNNN!!!!

Left 4 Dead has been tearing up the online gaming community for months now and, love it or hate it (p'faw, right!) chances are you've played it. From its team-centric gameplay to its eerily rendered infected hunting you in a creep-believable enviornment, to the unique "A.I. Director" (dubbed George by my own band or Survivors) who keeps things moving by randomly placing items and sicking a horde on you if be gets bored (and placing the fucking witch in impossible-to-avoid places like right next to the switch in the sewers of Death Toll or pretty much dead center in every door in Dead Air) this game hits Awesome on as many levels I can think of.

Simple and east-t-learn controls get you right on the action. While the voice-acting and scriptwork for the four survivors suck you head first into a world where your only hope is to make it through the night alive. You find yourself totally immersed from the second the camera zooms into the eyes of your chosen avatar (Louis ftw!) and actually cry out when one of your comrades gets taken down. Making it through the finale is as epic a success the tenth time in a row as it was the first time through.

I look forward to whatever Valve has planned for the Survivors in the near future (some new weapons, or looks, perhaps) and, no matter what they release, this is a title that has been spinning in my disk tray at least five nights a week since release and will continue to do so until L4D2...

Till next time...stay alive and try not to get left behind...

What is it about the large majority of Halo players? I almost never play with my mike on when I play Halo on Live. And for the longest time, I wouldn't play Call of Duty of Rainbow Six with my mike on either, to avoid those certain types of players. But I finally started playing with a couple of friends and discovered that the guys who play those games on Live are not nearly so asinine as the ones who play Halo. I have yet to figure out why.

    • lilith87

You absolutely made my day with your comment. haha I just wanted to tell you that.

I think what opens certain girl gamers up for either harassment or flirtation is that such a small percentage of girl gamers play fps and action games. Most girls play social games like Guitar Hero, etc. Which I also play, don't get me wrong, haha, but not nearly so many play Halo or Call of Duty, etc., and apparently certain groups of males don't know how to handle it when they do. It's like an overload. haha

Anyway, I'm getting rambly. Just wanted you to know that I was having a Monday on a Wedensday and your comment completely made me laugh out loud. All my students gave me wierd looks and wanted to know what I was reading. :-P
