    • Happy New Year! (from the future??)

      Ronicus

Historically I have been on this site at 12:00 on the dot to say Happy New Year from the future but last night I was home later than that and I'm getting tired earlier so I just went to bed...it is now 12:26 so twelve hours into 2014 for me, and probably for most of you.

So I hope you all had a good night, and I hope you're all in for a good year!

    • Merry Christmas (from the future)

Merry Christmas my dear friends, while it may not be Christmas for you, for me it has been Christmas day for 45 minutes; now to be sure, I will be spending the next 7 or so hours of the day asleep, but I will wake for the usual festivities that we all know and love.

I hope you all have a great day!

Well not long to go now, annnnnnd I can relax.

I have had NO time over the past 12 weeks for anything other than the essentials (study, exercise, snippets of a social life) and now I have a couple of weeks off for exam revision and I'm just going to take this Christmas week for myself.

A friend of mine lent me The Last Of Us about four months ago and I'm only getting around to playing it now. Great game, might even review it if I think I still have it in me. Not that it'll be news to anyone here, I'm sure you've all heard the reviews if you haven't already completed the game.

Kind of trying to rush it a bit, my secret Santa this year got me Metal Gear Rising: Reveangence and God of War: Ascension. There goes my exam revision.

I'm going to throw in a quick story chapter now, if anyone remembers and wants to read it, and pose the question: does anyone actually read these entries? My RvB comeback has been a little lame since starting this course, the story entries were meant to incentivise me to get back on here regularly but I don't seem to be getting on enough to keep a coherent narrative, which isn't good for story development or for anyone trying to read it. Does anyone care if the story has an ending or not?

      STORY TIME!

Baxter the dinosaur poked his head out through the trees at the edge of the jungle, overlooking a wasteland of felled trees and animal carcasses, and the crew of the Space Biscuit gaped at the iron fortress that had certainly fired at them during their descent.

"Vii'ra has outdone himself this time," said the captain, almost with a hint of respect for the mad Fartock scientist. Agent Ruso sniffed the air, "Dead animals, wood chippings...ahhh there's the distinct whiff of plasma cannon exhaust fumes in the air. This is definitely the place." The captain grunted, "As oppose to one the other giant fortresses on this planet." "Moon," the husky corrected him, "and no need for sarcasm."

"How are we supposed to get near that place without being seen?" Muhammad 2.0 asked, "We couldn't even land a stealth ship from 200 miles above the moon's surface." "We could try tunneling," Asuka suggested, "this moon has a molten core so they wouldn't be so suspicious of underground tremors." The captain shook his head, "We did that when we assaulted the first Vii'ra clone, he'll have set up underground defenses in case anyone should try that again."

"Well what's your bright idea, Captain Widow-maker?" asked the feisty ninja, and the captain scratched his head for a second, then clicked his fingers, "I've got it!" For some reason the sound of finger clicking made Agent Ruso very excited, but he couldn't quite figure out why, and stranger yet, his mouth started salivating as before a grand meal.

"This is what we'll do," said Captain Warp-Space, "we're going to find the fastest, most stubborn, thick skinned dinosaur in the area, and strap a shield generator onto his back. Then we'll ride him in through the front gate and make our assault from the inside!"

Somehow it has been 3 weeks since my last journal entry. I say somehow like it's an unknown force keeping me from logging in and typing out a quick update, but I know fine rightly that it's university work. I feel like I've done more work on this course than in my previous two degrees combined. In the past three weeks I have had 4 exams and two huge group coursework submissions, and in the next week (last week before the blessed Christmas break) I have two huge presentations to do with my groups to complete our huge coursework submission.

I mean it, it's not enough to go ahead and build a database or a GUI for an imaginary program, ohhhh no, we have to stand up and present what we've made to the class and field questions about our design choices.

I'm no stranger to public speaking, it doesn't bother me that much (anymore), but when you get asked questions in front of 50 people and one of them is a super expert giving you a mark based on your response....you get the picture.

In other news, Christmas is fast approaching, no promises but I will try to remember to pop on here and give you a Merry Christmas from the future (we're in different time zones, we might as well have some fun with it), but I'm really most worried about present swapping at the moment.

Amazon has been slacking lately, I realise that this is a busy time of the year for them and they'll be doing a ton of deliveries, but come on! I ordered most of this stuff over a week ago! The PRIVATE sellers have got my stuff to me more quickly than the big boys! That isn't supposed to happen!

      Grrr

Well I hope everyone is doing well, I've seen some of your journals and I know that some of you are just as busy as I am (some even busier) and I feel like throwing out a hang in there champ! to make you feel better. I know I appreciate encouragement when it comes my way.

No story time today, I know it's bad for me to leave it for ages and I'll forget my ideas and you'll stop caring about reading it, but I feel like this journal is huge already, and I should probably get back to studying...one more week....one more week....

So I got food poisoning directly after the last journal entry. From the breakfast that I praised in the title thereof. I know, right?

Anyway I've been crazy busy over the last few weeks and the next few weeks are going to be crazier busier. Deadlines for projects, group assessments, class tests and assessed practicals, the works. I'm being a proper student this time, I have no problem declaring my old English Literature a waster degree, how else could I have been on this website all day every day and still passed with flying colours...

Yes that's right, colour has a 'U' in it, that's the correct spelling.

So, anyone got either of the new consoles? Too busy off playing them? I have no income so I'll not be getting one of them *cough* but it would be the PS4 *cough* I'm not really free to game at the minute, I'm only doing this quick journal entry as a form of nostalgic procrastination!

Looking forward to the new Hunger Games though!

      STORY TIME!

Asuka led the way through the jungle, her katana slicing through the trees with no difficulty, "I can't believe you killed a holy dragon," she said, complaining at the captain, "although if someone were going to murder the first living thing in sight on a new planet I suppose it would be you."

Captain Warp-Space grumbled, "For the last time, it wasn't a holy dragon. It was a dinosaur. You've never heard of them because you come from a universe where time travels backwards and dinosaurs wouldn't show up until a few million years after the humans on your reverse earth went extinct from an asteroid inexplicably coming OUT of the planet." The had been having this conversation for some time.

Mohammad 2.0 was staying at the back of the hunting party, he alone feared the dinosaurs for what they really were; mainly because he had seen Jurassic Park. "What's that sound?" shouted a voice from trees, and a dinosaur with a long neck poked its head out and said, "Oh don't worry, it's just some hairless apes and an upright dog." Agent Ruso barked at the dinosaur, "Just one moment sir!" The dinosaur looked straight at him with a friendly smile of flat edged teeth, "What can I do for you?"

Agent Ruso ran up to the dinosaur immediately and did what dogs do, then returned to the front of the beast and asked, "My name is Ruso, can you tell me if you've seen any artificial structures about?" The dinosaur replied cheerfully, "Oh, a foreigner! My name is Baxter, a pleasure to meet you! Now, what might an artificial structure be?" Agent Ruso cocked his head to one side, he had never had to explain the meaning of the word 'artificial' before.

The captain interjected, "He means a cave made out of silver shiny trees." Baxter's eyes suddenly grew stern, "You must stay away from that place. No one ever comes back from that place." "Why not, holy dragon?" Asuka asked. Baxter replied sullenly, "They have fire spitting demons surrounding the place!"

Man I love the gym. Last bastion of peace in the world. Don't really have a whole lot of time for these journals because I should be working on my assessments or studying for an exam but I need to get my head showered every so often. If you don't understand the term 'get my head showered' it's Northern Irish slang for 'take a little break'.

      Also song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV4ILX60F6s&list=...

      STORY TIME!

Captain Warp-Space equipped his weapon of choice, the gravity gauntlet, a lightweight mechanical glove capable of increasing or decreasing the gravity of whatever it targets. This weapon was awarded to him after he 'lured' enemy forces into a black hole, since he was so fond of using gravity as a weapon they decided to forge it for him.

The captain obviously carried his side-arm, a double barreled plasma revolver, but he didn't really use it much. The gravity gauntlet was vastly more powerful, and he couldn't really hit anything with the revolver anyway, his trigger finger twitches and causes his whole wrist to jolt. This would later be diagnosed as a trapped nerve in his upper arm from excessive break dancing.

Asuka naturally carried the Japanese sword, sadly no-one made throwing stars anymore so someone was nice enough to make her a gun that shot laser shuriken. Muhammad 2.0 needed no weapons for obvious reasons, but to be on the safe side he switched his mechanical elbows for spring-loaded joints to reduce the time he needed to punch dinosaurs. Agent Ruso carried a large bone that had been sharpened at both ends. He liked to chew it in between meals also.

"Everybody ready?" asked the captain, holding his hand over the door controls. Ruso panted excitedly, but the rest of the crew just looked ignorantly about themselves as if uninterested in what awaited them. Captain Warp-Space took this to mean they were ready; he opened the door and stepped out, coming face-to-face with the aforementioned T-Rex. "Didn't see you there," said the T-Rex, it lunged towards Warp-Space and shouted, "ROAR!"

The captain raised his hand and pointed it at the T-Rex, and with some concentration used his gauntlet to increase the body weight of the dinosaur until it collapsed into the ground like a bowl of soup being knocked over accidentally. This was the first of many dinosaurs to be reconnected with extinction.

Went kind of a while without checking in there, so much for the dedicated comeback! Saw Thor 2 last night, better than the first, still not too mind blowing but I encourage you all to go see it anyway because some of the action will probably come back later in the Marvel universe and you'll need to keep up. At least the post credit sequence wasn't right at the end of the whole credit run.

      STORY TIME!

"Is that a dinosaur?" asked Asuka, cocking her head to one side to take it in. In actual fact the crew of the Space Biscuit were looking at an Apatosaurus. The long neck was the big give away, but Muhammad 2.0 mistakenly identified it as a Brontosaurus, because that's what everyone does.

"Better stay away from my ship or I'll give it a sore ass," said the Captain, hoping for a laugh, but the crew took it in poor taste. Probably because he had a history of murdering everyone, whether by accident or by design. "Martha!" shouted a voice, and then another Apatosaurus head poked out from the bushes, "Martha what are you doing?" The first dinosaur turned back and said, "Thought I saw something raise dust over here, but the place is empty."

"Why are those dinosaurs speaking English?" Muhammad 2.0 asked, and Agent Ruso answered, "It must be the ship's built in translator. That's why you can understand me; I might sound as eloquent as a human, but in reality I'm braking right now." Asuka couldn't help but be impressed, almost attracted to Agent Ruso. Little did she know that, in the backwards running universe she had been rescued from, her ancestors had been culturally somewhat obsessed with dogs, cats, and other household animals of the fluffy variety.

Just then, a Tyrannosaurus-Rex showed up and shouted, "ROAR!" The two Apatosaurus's screamed, "AHHH!" and ran away from him. "This planet is weird," said the Captain, "It's a moon," the husky corrected him. "Whatever, "the Captain grumbled, "let's get out there and find Vii'ra before he makes more extinct animals with limited vocabulary."

The crew departed from the bridge to equip themselves for jungle survival and close quarters battle, for they were sure to find their target in some underground close-quarters laboratory. Their greatest fear was that they would have to fight through an army of dinosaurs to get to it.

    • Revision is fun

      Ronicus

I just noticed that I start most of my journals with "So I..." or "Well I...". Decided to mix it up a little.

As I am now a student and busy with lots of studying to do, I have had to give up my job. It wasn't easy but I managed to quit. Yes, I know, it shouldn't be too hard to quit a job you've already had a reduction in hours for but that's Queen's University. Now I have two days per week when I don't have any classes, or any work to do. And it is GREAT.

I can catch up on some sleep and start the day an hour later than normal, have my pint of black coffee in the comfort of my bedroom in front of my PC as I read my e-mails, news websites, and do a short bible study to set me up for the day. Then I'm out to the gym for some heavy lifting (I've lost 20 pounds this year!) and back in time for breakfast before getting stuck headfirst into some serious Java practice.

I'm not exactly Bill Gates but I'm starting to get the hang of syntax and coding conventions. It doesn't all make perfect sense but things are starting to come together. Things are well! How are you all?

      STORY TIME!

Muhammad 2.0 dropped the Space Biscuit into the atmosphere of the fifth Geopin moon, ducking under heavy artillery fire from the planet surface. It didn't take long to find a mountain to hide behind, the entire moon was covered in thick vegetation but it was obviously not natural. It looked green, but it was covered into once rocky mountains.

"What happened to this place?" asked Asuka, marveling at the extent of the terraformation that had taken place. "It looks like someone just planeted a bunch of fully grown trees over the moon," said the Captain, "is this considered sloppy or is it supposed to be that quick?" Muhammad 2.0 chimed in, "That's what she said." Captain Warp-Space didn't understand this reference because he didn't exist in the 21st century.

"No one has had a close enough look at Fartock terraforming technology to say," Ruso panted, his husky tongue hanging out excitedly, "but as far as we knew this moon had no life of any kind less than two solar cycles ago." Asuka remarked, "Well now it has a breathable atmosphere and artillery cannons. Any other surprises?" The entire ship suddenly shook. "You had to ask," said the Captain, his fingers quickly typing at the scanner console, "let's see, what just bumped into my ship?"

Agent Ruso growled low, "That was no bump Captain, that was an impact tremor. Something very large is moving this way." The Captain looked at his cup of coffee, sitting comfortably on the scanner console under the gravity of the moon. Another impact tremor shook the ship. A small ripple erupted from the center of the coffee cup, sending little spills down the side. There was some fizzling from the scanner console before it died.

The crew all turned their eyes towards the main screen, all of the ship's exterior cameras were frantically pointing in each direction, surveying every trace of movement. Leaves waved, insects hovered, and birds danced around branches. Then the head of a dinosaur poked out of the bushes and stared at the ship with curious eyes.

So I'm nearly halfway through my second week as a student of this big subject that I have had no prior teaching in. I probably shouldn't even be on RvB but I felt like a blog/write/story or something in between classes.

      Just like old times...

Things are going well so far but I really need to get out of my job to stay on top of my studies. Ironic really...I take up this course to get a job and I have to try, I literally have to put EFFORT into getting out of my job so I can complete this course to get a job.

      Read that twice quickly.

      STORY TIME!

The starship Space Biscuit jumped into the orbit of the fifth moon of Geopin in what was called the 'Undeclared System'. This was a part of space not occupied by mankind or any of their affiliates, nor even the Fartock Empire. Mainly this was because this space was full of planets that were almost useless and had no salvagable value.

"That's not right," said Asuka, "this planet has an atmosphere comparable to Earth. Our surveyors would have caught this during their long distance investigations of this system." Agent Ruso answered, even though she wasn't really asking a question, "That's because the Fartock Empire have terraforming technology far superior to Earth's best efforts. Besides, who says the surveyors came back after finding this place."

Captain Warp-Space growled, "Vii'ra, I'm going to crush you with the power of GRAVITY." Agent Ruso knew of the history between Captain Warp-Space and Fartock mad scientest Vii'ra Tarangun, and that the Captain had killed several of this mad scientist's clones. That is why he was selected for this mission. "If possible we must take Vii'ra alive," said the husky, "I hope your personal feelings on this mission will not interfere with that objective. Our main goal is to destroy the bioweapons he has created, but beyond that we should try to take him for interrogation and military trial."

This displeased Captain Warp-Space, but he knew he had to follow orders, just as this husky did. "I'll do my best," he replied, "but accidents tend to happen on this covert missions." Asuka quietly mumbled, "Especially when Captain No-Survivors is involved." The Space Biscuit activated its stealth mode and made its descent to the planet. Suddenly missiles fired from the surface, "Take evasive action!" the captain shouted, and Muhammad 2.0 was quick to dodge the surface fire.

"How can they see our ship?" Asuka asked, "We're invisible to radar and the naked eye!" Agent Ruso replied, "It must be some new scanner Vii'ra has developed to combat earth stealth ships. Forget the original landing site, find a mountain and hide in its shadow!"

      Ronicus

Well I've been a student again for 2 days and already it's way different than what I'm used to. I feel a little in over my head and kind of worry that I won't be able to keep up with all the study that's required but I'm here now, I have paid, and I am too stubborn and ignorant to quit or fail.

So I'm learning Java, or trying to anyway. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that after 2 days I'm not a complete master but hey, I'm impatient to boot. Hopefully I'm right in thinking all these negative qualities have turned me into a go getter than finishes what he starts...either that or I'm a total diva.

      STORY TIME!

Captain Warp-Space stared in disbelief at his temporary new crew member. When the admiral had warned him that this agent wouldn't be like other agents he had worked with in the past, he had wondered if it were going to be a cyborg or one of the endangered alien species the human race had made peace with during their voyage to the stars. But no; it was a dog.

"Permission to come aboard Captain," the husky said, his tongue hanging out excitedly. The captain stammered back, "P-p-permission granted, Agent Ruso." Agent Ruso bounded up to him awkwardly, as he was a genetically engineered former four-legged animal and still not used to the two legged style of walking that humans take for granted.

Immediately Captain Warp-Space reached out his hand in welcome, but Ruso walked around behind the captain and gave his bum a good sniff. "Pleased to meet you," said the husky, then moving on to sniff the rear parts of Asuka and Muhammad 2.0. "Oh dear," he said, "you don't smell very welcoming at all!" Muhammad 2.0 sighed, "I no longer give off any scent. My designer didn't think it was important so all my sweat glands, root hairs and moist parts were deactivated during my construction."

The husky whimpered, "That is the saddest thing I have ever heard. This makes you my favourite." Warp-Space interrupted, "Sorry, Agent Ruso, but can you tell us what exactly you're doing here? Why do I need a federal agent to go after one mad scientist?" The husky growled, "This is the most dangerous mad scientist in the known universe, and I have been following his work for years."

"It is of grave importance that we reach his new testing planet, Zonda 4, before he completes his work on the new Fartock ground force; he has recreated your Earth dinosaurs using stolen skeletons and a VHS copy of Jurassic Park 2." Warp-Space gasped, "Did he learn nothing from those mad scientists!"

Glad I could help. :) Throw me a message if the need arises.

Btw, you have fans here. I kinda sorta played your recording of Brian O'Lynn for a co-worker and she was like, "That's so awesome! He's accent is sexy." lol What can I say.... Americans are easily swooned that way.

What do you mean? What is he supposed to do?

      Why? It isn't really.

      He did!

Yeah, but oddly enough we are both ok with that.

Einstein said "I know not what weapons World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones."

Indeed. I've spent more time rebuilding the city and training the assassin's guild characters than story than playing the story missions. Out of all the assassins creed games I've never seen any real replay value. All the achievements/trophies can be earned with one play through.

I have yet to try the multiplayer, but I hear its good. I'll most likely give it a try one of these nights.

I don't deny, but what was he supposed to do?

Very pretty girl, but just a friend. She and I have been friends for years and are happy to keep it that way.

Thanks for your story. Does it not worry you some that it still has the potential to escalate into World War 3?

He did, but by the time he actually got back to the states, there wasn't much he could do. He accepted the fact that she could get a divorce without his approval. It would just have taken an extra week. So he asked for answers. I still don't know if he got them.

For all intents and purposes yes. A week after Kyle got back, Kels went down there and talked to him for ten minutes and he realized defeat and signed the papers.

Mass Effect 2 is 3rd person. Grunt.

Man, if I teach, I want to teach college.

Well I guess it's a good thing that there is a Labor day sale at a used book store that sells movies and I'm pretty sure they'll have a copy.

No, teachers are having enough trouble finding teaching jobs. I would just compound the problem.

Yeah, planning. She had already expressed a desire to leave Kyle, but she wouldn't talk to the minister that married them. We had to tell him to call her.

Yeah, but I'd have to go back to school to become a teacher.

She didn't want to tell him what she was planning. We had to tell him to talk to her because she wouldn't. Made no difference.

Yeah, I love WW2 History. I could go on all day about it.

Kels doesn't want to try. Kyle suggested it, but she won't go for it.

Ah, but by putting the story both here and on another site, you double the chances for a bigger audience.

Sadly there is any, the only guy I liked ended up dating another friend of mine (I'd never get in between anybody, ever!). Not sure if they are still dating or not. Two were gay and another two was a friend's younger brother and his friend. Sadly now I just know girls :B

So recreate the first date and then add to it. Go somewhere new or something.

Yep, I prefer to stay off stage. And I'm right in the middle of the action in this show. The show is told through my eyes.
