      So, today at work Jay Leno was there. It was actually more annoying than anything, because I was trying to get email addresses from people, and I was by where he was, and people just kept ignoring me because he was there. It was kinda funny that some people were like, oh look, there's Jay Leno, but then they saw the person dressed up like Dora, and were all, DORA! OMG IT"S DORA!!!! It struck me as funny...Yesterday was my only day off this week and I woke up feeling really sick, so I didn't get much done. :( But I am feeling slightly better today. Hopefully tomorrow I feel even better! :) Anyway, without further ado, I give you

      DORA!!!!!

      So, finals are now over. After little sleep and intense stress, I am so looking forward to finally having a break. I told my boss at work that I have a break, so he scheduled me to work pretty much every day during it. Which is good because I really need the money, but kinda sucks because I have a ton of projects I want to work on and I wanted to relax a bit to prepare for next quarter as I feel really burned out. Oh well, I will just have to pick and choose what I'm going to do. Tomorrow I only work a half day, so I hope to work on some pattern making projects which will be nice to have a chance to do. I was hoping to post some pictures of my work, but it seems that for some reason most of the files I saved as jpg files are corrupt....so I only have one to share. I had a photoshop class this quarter, and learned some fun stuff. Here is a sketch that I did with it. I plan on changing the background a bit to make it look better. I wanted it to look like one of those cityscape cut out things, but it needs something more. And I will probably fiddle with the shading more. It seems like there is always something one can keep touching up with photoshop. :D (If anyone has suggestions to make it better, let me know!) I do really wish I had the adobe suite on my computer. But it is very costly, so I will just have to content myself with using it when my school's computer lab is open. :( Hope this journal finds you happy and well! Toodles. ^_^

      I am so tired of adobe illustrator at the moment. I have been on the computer drawing flats in it for 15 hours in the past two days broken up only by periods of work and other homework. Even more than that in the past two weeks. I have sewn three complete garments this past week. One of them being a fully lined tailored wool jacket which had the delightful requirement of being all hand hemmed/finished. I have only slept 22 hours since last Sunday, when in order to function at my best I would have liked to have gotten about 45ish. I have more to finish than I care to think about. I probably shouldn't even take my little 'RVB breaks', but I do need little breaks now and then for my sanity I guess. I can't wait for finals to be over! Sorry about the whine fest, but whining makes me feel better sometimes... ^_^;
      Uuummm...in other news my new job continues to go well. Tonight was the last night of one of my co-workers, which kinda sucks, because I really liked working with her. It made work more fun. And when finals are over I should have some new pics of random garments and sketches etc. to post. Laters all. <3

      Is anyone else watching this show? It is currently airing on the SciFi channel. Feel free to discuss away!

      www.scifi.com/wcgultimategamer/

      What do you think of the selection of people on the show? Only one episode has aired so far, but I feel that they are a good representation of the gaming population as a whole. The twelve people chosen aren't that stereotypical gamer image that many people still have. Do you think it is a good concept for a show?

      I thought it was interesting that one of the guys said that he doesn't really view the women as being to much competition because they are attractive and he doesn't think they have what it takes. I think they are not to be underestimated, I know plenty of girls that are gamers, and I don't really think that the fact that they are girls, or attractive plays that much into the fact that they are good or bad gamers. I think it is stupid when people think girls can't be as good at games just because of there gender....anyway, I am not the biggest reality TV fan, but I think I may watch this one through. It will be interesting to see who wins.

      So, I had to take an application for this special projects class I am trying to take in to school today. Part of that application was a garment, so I brought in a formal dress I made last quarter. I figured while I had it there I would snap some pics of it. I am quite proud of this dress. I designed, draped/made a pattern for, and sewed it, including the hand beading. Which took me a lot longer than I anticipated. I thought that beading would take like three hours, and it actually took about eight. I anchored every bead tightly which is probably why it took longer. It is fully finished and fully lined. I used an invisible zipper as those are my favorite. The assignment was called the motiff dress. We had to choose a shape and gather the dress into it-hence the circle on the lower back with the gathers radiating out of it. I only wish this was my size. It sucks that I can't wear the projects I make in school since we have to make them to fit the ALVA forms. :( But I take solice in the fact that I can make myself pretty much anything I can come up with on my own time-when I have it! XD

      Last night I went to Watchmen at the 12:30 showing in the IMAX theater at Universal's Citywalk. I enjoy the fact that one of the perks of working for them is getting discounted movie tickets! I had wanted to go to an earlier showing, but they were all sold out. It was awesome! I am very pleased. I love it when movie adaptations are done right. It made not getting home untill 5 a.m. totally worth it. :D Also, right in front of the theater they had Archimedes!

      super awesome news guys! I had a phone interview yesterday regarding the advanced study third year program in costume design I applied for at my school. It went really well, and at the end, the head of the department said he couldn't technically let me know untill Friday, but it sounded like I was a perfect match for the program and they would love to have me! I got accepted!! I am one of 4-6 people out of apparently over 100 that applied! So I get to be part of the Debut Show, and show off my stuff at a huge runway show. The department head told me a little more about the program, and I guess during the last quarter I will have a 60 hour a week internship with one of the best theaters in LA. I don't know which one though. He stressed to me that it is not an easy program, and I agree. It will be lots of hard work, but it will be so worth it. XD Huzzah!!!

      So this past weekend I went to Fanboys. It was pretty funny. If you are a fan of Star Wars, I would go to it as you will get the humor. It also had such delights as...
      kristen-bell-as-leia2.jpg
      Kristen Bell as Slave Leia...

      I would also like to state for the record that I am a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek. (this is something touched upon in the movie) I think it is silly that there are fans who think you can't like both...I admit I do like Star Wars better though! Just for funsies I have a question for you guys...Slave Leia, or Seven of Nine? Which one do you personally like better and why?

      I also went hiking for a good part of Sunday, and forgot to stretch beforehand...now I am quite sore! It was really nice to get out of the city and enjoy some fresh air and exercise though. Hope all of you had enjoyable weekends! ^_^

      I finally got to see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, this past weekend and it was awesome. They advertise that it is the best of the three movies, but I disagree. I could tell it was a different director, and the editing style is a bit different as well. But it was a good movie and if you are a fan of the first two, I would definitely see it, even if it is only when it comes out on DVD. It did bother me that other vampires die by getting their necks sliced open etc, but Lucien flippin stabs Viktor in the face and he survives, and they don’t tell you how. One scene he is stabbed falling into the water and then he is in a ship just fine. In other news I am ridiculously excited about Batman: Arkham Asylum. If you haven't seen the trailor for this, check it out! It looks amazing. www.gametrailers.com/player/44909.html I can't wait!
      But wait! There's more...^_^;
      I spent eight hours stuck in front of a computer yesterday doing flats in Adobe Ilustrator. Blegh. They aren't quite finished, they need top-stitch and finishing details on them etc. But here is a 12 piece group for a collection I am working on this quarter.

      Some of the colors are going to be a little different, and I am adding a chinese brocade print. Even though they aren't finished they give you an idea I guess!

      I am trying to get into the third year advanced theater costume program at my school. They accept about 10 people out of everyone who applies, which I hear is at least 100. I had to do four project boards, two of which had to be period pieces. One of the elements we are judged on is how accurate our fabric swatches for those designs are. I had trouble finding what I needed. I spent a day and a half looking around LA for the fabric I needed for my 1876 period piece. It seems they just don't make cording in silk or cotton anymore. I couldn't find any silk velvet eithor...but I finally found some stuff that would make do. The application was due yesterday at 5 pm. So I was up all night on Mon. working on it when I got violently ill. I went to bed for two hours because I was worried I would be sick all over my sketches. This put me behind on the project though. After class on Tues. I rushed home and worked my butt off until 4:45 when I left to take my project to school. Traffic was worse than normal, and a drive that should have taken me ten minutes took me twenty. By the time I got to the room to drop it off it was 5:10 and the woman who was taking them was already gone. I couldn't believe that I had missed it by ten minutes. I decided to take my project in first thing this morning and see if there was anything I could do, anyone I could convince to take it. Well, good news! I got them to accept my application! So now I wait and see if I make it in. Wish me luck! <3

      These are the four project boards before I cleaned them up and put the labels etc. on them.

      Ariel from The Tempest (and that isn't a wing by his shoulder, it is his head and shoulders covered with black sheer fabric pieces that button to the top of his head for when he is invisible in the play)

      Historical pirate Anne Bonney- 1720 period costume, but with a twist as it is a woman.
