Well, after playing many a videogame in my time, I finally heard about this game called "Life". You know, as in real life. I was skeptical because it came out ages ago, but decided to look into it and give it a shot. Here's what I've learned about this game so far:

      - Life would probably be best described as a massively multiplayer real-time strategy game. Random battles are par for the course as you find yourself duking it out with hordes of other players for all the good loot, job classes, and mans/chickz0rz. The game appears open-ended as there is no clearly defined goal, but don't worry as other players will be more than eager to help by pointing out when you're failing at Life.

      - Despite being as old as time itself, the graphics and sound of Life are still the gold standard that all other games aspire to, hence the term "Life-like" graphics. I go outside in Life and it seems like I totally just went outside. Pretty impressive for such a dinosaur of a title.

      - Unfortunately, the replay value of Life is non-existent. You can only play through it once and then it's done. No second chances, no extra life -- forget it. Don't get too reckless in this game or you just might end up with a premature "Game Over". A word to the wise: It would seem that unlike the Legend of Zelda series, you cannot survive a 10-story drop simply by rolling once you hit the ground.

      - The character customization is extremely limited since your basic stats are determined automatically as soon as you enter the game. You can dress it up all fancy-like as you acquire more experience, but the game designers force you to work with whatever grab-bag of fun Life decides to throw at you.

      - One glaringly obvious design flaw of this game is the complete absence of a reset function. An oversight of this magnitude amidst such an otherwise compelling experience is simply mind-boggling. Also, unbelievably there is not a single cheat code or Gameshark-esque hacking device for this game, so your dreams of moon-jumping to work in Life will just have to be saved for other games.

      - It's free to start playing but there's a high monthly subscription cost covering your character's clothes, food, and whatever other luxuries you wish to indulge upon. Life sure ain't cheap!

      - Would not recommend attempting to strafe to run faster or clipping through walls for shortcuts. Extensive testing has proven that Life's dedicated physics engine is notoriously unforgiving.

      - Prepare to spend hours grinding for XP in school and work-related missions to get to any of the good stuff.

      - The difficulty level is very flexible; Life dynamically responds to your character's behavior and can be as boring or as challenging as you want it to be. However, don't be fooled by early victories into thinking you've won at Life, as the game's design ensures that too many successive accomplishments will invariably result in a directly proportionate probability that another player will come along and ruin your game in due time. Furthermore, unlike other games which have 100 percent reproducible outcomes for given actions and inputs, the randomization of rewards is highly emphasized; sometimes you'll get unbelievably good luck or seemingly endless loads of BS in Life for no apparent reason.

Overall, lots of variety and engaging experiences to be found if you look for them. Life does not offer a nice hand-holding tutorial like most games, which seems to intimidate most players into pre-emptively giving up and failing at Life. However, the presentation is solid, the graphical quality is unprecedented and the established subscriber userbase is unparalleled in sheer size. Lasting appeal varies by person and the various missions don't quite retain their intrigue on repeat plays, but the range of experiences that are offered is superb.

      "Life" Rating Breakdown

      Presentation: 10
      Graphics: 9.5
      Sound: 10
      Gameplay: 5
      Replay value: 0

Overall Score (not an average): 8.7

Still waiting for a walkthrough on GameFAQs so that even if I can't go back I can find out what I missed.

    • _Damnation_

lol, nah i dont like that white power and all that shit, i support and look at a completely different apsect of the war, mainly the sheer technical brilliance of their armed forces, the tactics of feild marshal Rommel , and war machines of the wermachte, Luftwaffe and the Kreigsmarine

    • _Damnation_

i am sorry for your loss, and i can see that i could not change your mind or your opinion, as you have a rooted dislike for them, and i respect that, everyone has a right to their opinion but war is war, young men are taught to kill each other and to do it with efficency im positive that your uncle killed many young germans and caused their familys grief just as that one soldier has caused yours. Young people die thats how war works and many that die deserve life and many that live deserve death, but please do not say that all german soldiers were race driven fanatics because it is simply not true, if anything direct your hatred and anger towards the SS and some of the higher ranking officials of the nazi party such as Heinrich Himmler and Herman Goring for THEY are the true essense of evil smiley9.gif

    • sphinxter

You asked how they're doing now. So, my answer was refering to how they're doing now. Comparing the histories of the two teams isn't even close to be a fair comparison. I might as well compare the history of the U.S. to the history of Slovakia and try to decide which country is better.

    • sphinxter

In second place in the AL Central only a game back at 42-30. The Yankees are in second place in the AL East ten and a half games back at 36-35. I think Cleveland is still in a little better shape.
