So I have no idea if anybody will see this because I don't know if any of my friends on here still use the site (except for @Raf, that dude rocks), but I have something that is exciting me and I'd like to put it out into the ether.
For those who don't know, The Behemoth is developing a new game. You may recognize that name from their other games like Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers, and BattleBlock Theatre. These games are all fantastic and the explore a different style of game play with each installment (beat-em up button masher, RPG, Puzzler respectively). Their next installment has been in development since 2013 after BattleBlock Theatre (BBT) was released. It was formerly titled "Game 4" until last year when the Behemoth landed on the title "Pit People"; which is set to be their stab at a turn-based tactics and strategy game. I have been waiting for this game to hit the market ever since it was announced in 2014 and have been following the news updates religiously since then.
The reason I'm so excited is because I have a prediction for when this game will finally come out, and based on my calculation it should be this year! Here's the logic:
Yesterday The Behemoth ran 3 articles (well it's really 2 b/c one is from a French company and who can read that shit?) from companies they invited to play their demo and write about it for The Xbox Spring Showcase. Their blog has confirmed that there will be a closed beta this year, but more specifically one of the articles states that the closed beta will happen sometime this summer.
"But Brad, it's just a beta. That doesn't mean the game is going to be ready soon."
Au contraire, mi amigo (Spanish & French in the same sentence. And Kanye said it couldn't be done*). Let's take a look back at what happened with BBT. The Behemoth claimed that BBT was the most developed game they had to date before they brought it into beta testing. They have made the same claim for Pit People. BBT had it's closed beta test slated for February/March of 2013. Due to how far along the game was in development when they hosted the beta test, The Behemoth was able to release the game to the Xbox community on April 3, 2013. Which is a turn around time of approximately 1 month from beta!
So now we have to make a few assumptions:
1) 1 month is a very quick turn around time from beta to launch. Let's build in some cushion and assume 2-3 months lag from Beta to Launch
2) The beta date will occur in the "summer", so let's go with the midpoint and say it'll happen in July
3) Finally, let's assume that The Behemoth isn't lying about this being their most developed game pre-beta to date
If my assumptions are reasonable, then we can reasonably expect to see Pit People launching sometime in Q3 of this year!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why I'm excited.
*Kanye didn't actually say this
