I know I have never really posted on here much, but in the past few months I have had a few people reach out to me and I think its important to update everyone.

I am no longer an employee at Rooster Teeth.

After nearly two years at RT and working on a massive variety of projects, I resigned from my position in February. Leaving RT was entirely my choice and I wish everyone working at Stages 5 and 2 the absolute best! I have already since had the opportunity to work on some RT content as an independent contractor, and I hope I get opportunity to collaborate with my friends more in the future.

Currently I am working as the sole proprietor of my business Claytone Productions. After two years of being out of the game it is nice to get to work with Directors and Producers that I have wanted to collaborate with for a while. To be honest I probably will not update my page here all that often, but you are welcome to follow me on social media. Anyone that writes me on here with questions, or simply to chat, I will get back to you as often as I can, but I cannot guarantee a quick response.

Thank you everyone who has watched and commented on my work with RT. I have said it before and I will say it again: The best part about working on the web is the immediate feedback. Its nice to know that the entertainment you have a hand in actually reaches people. I'm going to miss you guys!!!

      Love,

      Clayton

I look at the site Geekologie just about every day - starting long before I was at RT. Today I log on and Geoff and Gavin's "Happy Hour #1" is on the front page! May seem a bit silly given that we already have our own site, but I get excited when part of my new life integrates with the old.

This list is pretty true - Pay attention to #8.

"Make friends with the sound guys: Don't ask me why, but in my experience sound guys are always the quietest, nicest, most helpful people on-set. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they spend a lot of time quietly reflecting on sounds only they can hear."

Hey dude! Just curious about the other positions you've held and what your preferred software is , and what mics you like to use when doing VO?

Oh and you certainly delivered in season 13. Kick. Ass.

      Hey Clayton, big fan!

Wanted to ask what you think is the best desktop microphone for someone who wants to record videos? Other sites I've seen say the Blue Yeti, some say the Audio Technica AT2020. Just wondered if you could give some tips to an aspiring gameplay commentator.

      Thanks so much!

You good sir have earned a great amount of respect after I saw that your first Screen Play pick is Grosse Pointe Blank. I have always greatly enjoyed that film and could not get enough of John Cusack being a mercenary. Didn't see you join the crew but i'm glad that they have you!

Thanks Man! Its one of my favorites and very much a forgotten film in my eyes. Certainly one of Dan Aykroyd's best roles.. and probably the most surprising for some people. Hopefully I'll be invited on Screen Play some day and get to join in on the conversation. Keep watching the list and I'll post more gems!

Hey dude, belated welcome! I'm really happy to see a fellow sound engineer working in RT and you're doing a fantastic job. As a big audio guy your presence has improved podcasts so much for me.

while im here, thought i'd ask what music are you into?

      • TheWickerMan

yup, downtuned guitars with heavy distortion and low growled vocals was a nightmare to mix but I think its a good way to learn mixing metal. I'm working on a progressive metal album in standard tuning and it's much easier/more fun to mix.

It must be nice having a fairly regular job with RT then? do you do any work on the side of RT? i'm trying to keep as busy as possible even if its with my own musical projects. its more work under your belt

      • SkullYacht

Nice Dude! Yeah mixing Death Metal can be one of the hardest tasks in music mixing and mastering. It is one of the few generas where just about every instrument is trying to fit into the same frequency range. It can be difficult carving space.

Money is hard to come by in this line of work. I have been doing this professionally for a good while and I still have droughts. They key is to not stop working no matter what. When you do get an interview or the chance to land a gig that might pay it always helps to show and talk about very recent work, and it keeps you on your game at all times.

      • TheWickerMan

nice! i'm really excited for the new mastodon too and NWA are always good.

Yeh i think i noticed that too, i just payed mroe attention with the podcast because i had a lot of problems with the podcast quality for the longest time. I'm still pretty new to the feild, i've just completed 3 years of college doing sound engineering and during that time i've been keeping busy recording EP's for friends and my own death metal EP. Working on 2 albums this year and a friends ep along with some small live work. Not getting payed much right now but im more hungry for experience than anything else.

      • SkullYacht

What music am I into? I guess if I had to break it down I am all about classic rock and heavy metal. In my car right now my CD rotation has been Def Leopards Piromania, NWA Straight Outta Compton, and all of Mastodon's discography in prep for the new record (my current favorite). I also work with Live Action and I have been doing all of the sound for RvB season 12. What do you work on normally?

Hey Clayton, on the 24 hour live stream you mentioned you liked reviews that doesn't do comparisons to anything and just reviews it as it is. It's called Formalism and I'm with you all the way in video games and movies. It's true it's getting harder and harder to find original ideas but it doesn't matter if I'm entertained. Also welcome to Rooster Teeth. :)

Hey Clayton, I was directed to you by JJ for a question. Do you know what switcher and switcher software RT used on the live stream and what cameras they use?

      • Cdogger715

I actually already have a capture card, the Hauppauge HD PVR 2, thanks for the suggestion though; might look into it later. As for the cameras, I found a Sony CX240 bundle on Amazon that I'm gonna get. I will definitely look into all of this equipment though. Thanks!

I saw this question on JJ's page [which you posted]. They also use a Canon 5D mark ii [assuming the mark ii and not the mark iii] for some footage as well. Usually the Re-cap stuff. And what SilverKM03 stated is also true regarding the other cameras. In regard to do live streaming..... wow just checked out the Livestream Studio and it looks perfect. I was going to suggest a capture card that I use [and I believe the AH guys use it as well]. The Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro [I use the PCI version, but there are USB versions available], which allows you to capture the HDMI signal from the Xbox.

      • Cdogger715

Thanks SilverKM03! I plan on doing some live streaming when Watch Dogs releases and continue from there. I liked the quality of the stream and would eventually like to do something similar

      • SilverKM03

I believe they use Blackmagic Design's ATEM 2 M/E, a RED EPIC, and two Sony camcorders (because they output 1080 via HDMI) I don't know if they use the included software, but they use apps like strata lite for the iPad control.

If you don't need the switcher panel, check out Livestream Studio.
