To anyone who likes Bioware RPGs and Greek Mythology, I recommend this game.

A good comparison is calling it Jade Empire with Mass Effect dialogue. Rise of the Argonauts is only a tiny bit more glitchy and unstable than Bioware games, but retains the role-playing and dialogue those great RPGs are known for. Face animations are rather dull compared to Mass Effect however.

Shame the game didn't get delayed a few months so it didn't have to contend with all of last year's great titles, the extra polish wouldn't have hurt either.

Plus supporting Codemasters is always a good thing in my book.

I used the search function, couldn't find anything related to the new Marvel comic miniseries' apparantly coming this summer. (unlikely considering they can't complete a four issue series in less than 12 month)

So yeah, I only just found out about these. Link with details. Helljumpers sounds cool, not much to say, will be a fun romp with some ODSTs.

Spartan Black, other than being the worst title ever, heh, may be worrying though, mainly because of a quote from the/a creator:

While on a top-secret mission in enemy space, their ship crashes on a remote moon along with a Covenant cruiser. When a mysterious entity that has lurked on the moon for millions of years threatens both groups, Spartans and Covenant have to forge an uneasy alliance to take down the common threat

Now, seriously, are they really trying to tease us with the Flood? I really don't think it will be the Flood because that'd be ridiculous, but it certainly sets it up right. Also, forging an uneasy alliance, again. Sure, it makes for interesting story-telling, but it's happened before in Halo fiction. Why can't it simply be a story with a Spartan team kicking Covenant ass? I'm glad an alliance wasn't made to fight the Flood in Halo Wars.

So I quit college last December and have been working full time at a supermarket. Many tell me this was a bad move, but to be honest, i've been much happier then i've been in a long time. Getting a lot of money each month, not having to worry about money or college assignments. Having so much free time to do what I want.

My primary interest of animal care is still pursued in my free time, I just decided that I didn't want to put the effort into getting a job in that field anytime soon, since there were well over a hundred at my college, are all of them going to find the job they want? Nah, not everyone can be what they want, the advertisements are bullshit, we still need labourers and people to work in our supermarkets. I don't excel mentally or physically at anything so I decided to accept a common job for now. I may continue in educations at some point, but I plan on following the experiance route, been volunteering at homeless animal places where i've been able to gain valuable experiance not possible in a classroom.

But fuck that kinda talk. What about games?

      Loved FEAR 2: Project Origin.

      Liking Halo Wars.

Going to love Prince of Persia Epilogue next week.

Going to like H.A.W.X. next week.

Bought myself a laptop couple days ago, was actually the cheapest gaming laptop in Curries, but is still amazing compared to what i'm used to.

Been exploring modern PC games with a lot of demos, can play UT3 comfortably on medium settings, so I thought why not download the Crysis demo? So I did, plays admirably on lowest setting, way too sluggishly on medium settings and at 1 frame per second on maximum settings. But I decided none of that matters anyway, because I seem to suck hard at controlling with a mouse and keyboard with first-person games, even get cramps in hand. Maybe just need more ergonomic mouse.

Vista seems so untidy to me too, but i'll get used to it.

    • Microtransactions...

They are the very bane of my existence!

Example: For Dead Space there are 4 new suits and 32 weapon skins for download. This comes to a total of half the price I paid for the actual game

Not so much I hate microtransactions, it's just the pricing schemes, it's such low value! Fucking ridiculous. Annoying because i'd like the DLC, but buying everything I want just isn't realistic. It still isn't as bad as EA's sports and Need For Speed series at least.

Currys and it's gaurantee plans for LCD and plasma televisions.

Got a tech guy to come out and check my LCD, showed him the really visible 'image sticking', the colour leaking, trailing shadows and it's loss of framerate problems. All of which weren't even a problem before a couple months ago, and he tells me that the gaurantee plan doesn't cover 'LCD screen failure'. Then he leaves.

What the shizzle? What did he even mean by it doesn't cover screen failure? What else would it need to cover? The twits that drop their flat-screens and break the stand?

Paid nearly £200 for a three year deal to cover it as well. Can get my model for less than £350 now for fuck sake. How oddly annoying.

I've had my HDTV, a Samsung LE26R7 for almost two years now. About three months ago I started seeing background images of previous images displayed on the TV. Such as the 360 dashboard still being a bit translucent after I start up a game. I use the TV only for my 360 and simply have it connected with a HDMI cable.

I googled and got a bunch of posts in forums about others that get this problem with TVs, just thought i'd get some more advice. Does this problem sound like the TV is in fact just 'dying', i'm not very tech savvy but does it indicate the display is just losing it. Or is it possible it could be something to do with my connection? The HDMI cable?

Anyone recommend I try different connections such as VGA or even a new HDMI? Or as I said before, is it a common problem among HDTVs that they all succumb to eventually?

      Thanks for any help.

Just thought i'd see if anyone likes this game as much as me. Is a fun hack n slash with the main goal being liberating besieged areas and recruiting those you save into your army, in order to have enough forces to attack a major enemy strongpoint en masse.

Is it repetitive? Yes. Fun repetitivity? I personally think so. It's no more repetitive than most of GTAIV in my opinion, although that at least has humour which entertains.

And it's about vikings, norse mythology and liberating, what more does one need from an action game?

I got to the second island but wont be playing for a loooong time now, because I returned to dashboard for a break, now apparantly this game uses autosaves, yet apparantly the autosave failed and my five hours of straight liberation was lost. Which leads me to a mini-rant. Fuck the many game developers and their shitty design ideas of not allowing us to create our own save points or even being able to load previous checkpoints/levels.

    • What should Bungie do now?

      Strife453

In my opinion, an action-adventure-first person game of cinematic quality, with no multiplayer at all. This game would feature the Chief and Cortana and their adventure after Halo 3.

      Would go something like this:

My name is John-117, a spartan. My ship got torn apart and broke out of slipspace. Now I'm lost in some distant part of the universe on a planet, a terrifying planet, full of strange alien life forms. Help me. Listen, please. Is anybody out there who can hear me? I'm being hunted... by superior enemy forces. I'm doing everything I can. I'm just looking for a way home.

Sound familiar? You'd be wrong because it's complelety original. (attempt at humour....)

Anyway, yea, that's how I think the Chief and Cortana's story should continue. Not neccesserily a game, a collection of novels or even a tv series in the very distant future, even a CG series. But if it was a game, i'd like it to have the same feel of quality to it as The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape form Butcher Bay had, with varied gameplay that takes halo-canon physics seriously.

Of course that's just my hopeless dreams of how it would happen, since it would offer the mystery that was there with the first game, stuck on an alien world with strange alien life mostly hostile towards you.

Never said I was a creative person, apologies if you think my ideas suck.

I'm not saying the Humans are Forerunners, I don't want them to be either. From the portals it suggested humans were a last-minute made discovery by the Forerunners. Being so similar to them, the Forerunners made a last ditch effort to save them.

I do like how other (biologically and historically) human species are into play. But the ages are just rediculous! I could've dealt with a Forerunner being able to turn, say 300-500, years old, but a homo florensis? no way.

Can't say the idea of debt worrys me too much at the moment.

Student tuition fees and loans don't have to be paid until you're earning over £15k a year, even then you're paying around £5-£10 a week, and after about 25 years the debts are wiped off the slate. Niether of them count on your record, so you can borrow in future and banks can't hold anything against you for doing what students do best.

At the moment I am really lacking on money and I want to avoid any and all local supermarkets like the plague. I'm even thinking of selling my WoW account to make some money. Just got to find a way of selling it on ebay without having it taken down by the site itself.

Thats the slap around the face I got last year. If I failed the course I'd not only have to retake it but pay for the next two years. So I'd be over £2,000 in debt before I even get to Uni.

Not looking forward to the bills there either.

I guess that's reasonable. CQC in this game isn't worth it. I always do think of Mercenaries as either stealthing and using guerrilla tactics or sniping, so I guess this game does alright in line with that.

      In reply to Mikeymasta, #-1:

To be honest the only way I have fun with my missions is using explosives and sniper rifles from a distance. Otherwise I think CQC sucks because of the amount of health enemies have, I suck at CQC headshots.

    • Mikeymasta

Well that's the thing it's not like most open world games where there's a whole lot of variety. Minor scene and personality changes are marred by the realization that you're doing essentially the same fucking thing over and over again.
It's fun in its own way so it keeps you playing a bit but if I had at least one sniper or actual rifle available to me then I might have a bit more fun killing people. The machete is shit hard to use on Infamous and I'm getting tired of using my shotgun.

    • Mikeymasta

I'm trying very hard to like it but it's already repetitive and I can tell it's only going to get worse. I literally drove around the map at one point and got ambushed soooo many times; especially at guard posts.
I really don't see how I'm supposed to find the Jackal anyways. Seriously I'm all for a long game but this one might just not be doing it right. We'll wait and see.

    • Mikeymasta

Just finished the game earlier today. It was...not so much "difficult", I'd probably use the word "sticky" and "dodgy" to describe how hard it is. "Take your time to master the movies and you'll be kicking ass by the end of the game" seems to come to mind. The Altair skin is really cool, though. It looks absolutely badass at the lookout points (especially Assassin's view). Bah-dum-tish.

    • Mikeymasta

I actually enjoyed the bit of Prince of Persia that I played. The main characters are really laughable but I've actually warmed up a bit to the duo (more the Prince). Pretty easy achievements on the whole. It really encouraces exploration, though, and I've never particularly liked exploration. Especially when (besides different visuals) it's just about the same thing copy+pasted over and over again. I'm glad I gave it a rent, though.

The clipping of the framerate is pretty annoying, but it's not a constant. I'd say give it a rent. If you have little experience in RPGs, you may get a little lost, but you seem like you'll be fine. So again, give it a rent and see how you like it. I don't mind the framerate issues, it's pretty fun for me so far and I've met a fairly good amount of the voice acting cast, so that adds a new level of entertainment for me, although I was disappointed that the voice overs were so few and far between, I'll still eventually play it to completion.

    • Mikeymasta

Well, Isaac doesn't talk throughout the entire game. In, say, the Halo series, the Master Chief is a man of few words. This allows a slight amount of personality while still allowing the player to project what they want.

Still, you're right, "silent" is a personality type.

      Thanks on the compliment.

Completed the first part of it awhile ago on Hard. It wasn't too difficult, although most fights usually took me two tries. When I say awhile ago. I mean it took me like...I'm not sure, an hour or so. It's pretty cool so far, not incredibly fun but I'm definitely enjoying it.

I'd say, on a scale from 1 through 10, 1 being a child learning how to play, and 10 being a pro gamer, I'd be at an 8 or so.

I think you might have seen a difference if you'd've stopped on at 6th form. The arses tend to drop off quite quickly or just get put into the lower subjects. Don't get me wrong, some people in those classes can be great characters.

College however is a step backwards for me in terms of the people. All it'd take is a good slap in the face from life and the dopey fuckers might just buck their ideas up.
