Alright so here it is...
It's only been 2 days back home and I already miss the shit out of Austin, RTX, and all my homies. Let's just get to the why's shall we...
A. It's a Vacation: As someone who is on call as a caregiver for my brother 24/7 RTX is my annual vacation. I don't get weekends off or even days off RTX is my week off.
B. The People: Just when I think I've already met all the best people in RT community I meet more and more amazing people! I also got to see a few friends I've had for years now in person for the first time and if you haven't done that yet and you're nervous, don't be! It's one of the biggest joys I've ever experienced! I also got to room with some of my best friends and a couple new ones that turned out to be awesome! I feel so amazing to have all these people in my life and I'm going to do my best to stay in better touch with all of these new and old friends of mine! I was going to tag everyone in this post but the new sites being too difficult and I'm too tired.
C. RTX Itself: The convention this year was excellent, the system of holding tickets for cast autographs worked well and kept things less hectic and people less disappointing in comparison to last year. I feel my key to success at this RTX was being chill about it all. I was never in a rush to get anywhere saw the expo hall simply when I had time and nothing more to do. I bounced between groups of people who were either going to see a panel that sounded good, having lunch, or just roaming the expo hall. Overall I just kinda let the good times roll and it worked out excellently!
D. Sidequest: Some of the best times I've had at RTX have been during the RTX Sidequest events. If you haven't been or don't know what it is I consider it a must for a true RTX experience. The charity auction was as usual an excellent environment to catch up with everyone and take pictures and meet a few cast members. Had an excellent conversation with Kerry about how my roommates who don't watch RT content should get in the fucking ground.
E. Austin Austin Austin: I saved the best for last. It's true that while I was in Austin the heat was a nuisance at times...or always but my god does the city make up for it! The bars, the activities, and my god the food! There is just always something to enjoy! The attitude of the city is also amazing. The only problem is the homeless people whom are super annoying and intrusive at times but if you say you don't have cash and hide your leftovers you should have no problem. I thought the weather coming back home to the pacific northwest would make me happier but it hasn't. I forgot how my sinuses are always bothering me here and while I enjoy getting warm and comfy at night instead of waking up covered in sweat, I miss how clear and beautiful it always is there. Yeah it may be beautiful and green but it's always wet and chilly. Idk maybe it's just because I got a small cold when I got back but I think I'd really like Austin as a home especially when it's not the hottest months of the year lol.
At any rate RTX again was one of the best weeks of my life and I will treasure it till next year. Thanks everyone who's company added to this amazing trip.
See you all next year,
Greg 'THE StrikingHobbit'
