I have a friend who claims she can "speak British" because she watches so much Doctor Who. As if British English were a foreign language entirely instead of a regional dialect. To prove this she rattled off a series of non sequitur phrases that, while perfectly viable in American English, you just don't hear very often here in the states.

She is one of my best friends but god damn did I have to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. That is just the dumbest shit.

Got me watching Mulan again. I hadn't seen it in a while and it's a good movie plus I'm sick as fuck so hey why not watch a nice movie instead of laying around all miserable. It just finished up and I was idly watching the credits cos I know a co-worker or two worked on it and

      um

I forgot how fucking many of them were animators on that movie. Like, omg my memory is awful, there were at least EIGHT of them and oh shit how could I have forgotten that I work with SO MANY former Disney animators? Back when the Orlando studio was shut down the school snapped up as many as they could. I just straight up forgot and once I'm over this cold I have to go back to work and deal with the fact that they chose to teach after a career at DISNEY and I ended up teaching cos I can't get a better job elsewhere! Talk about feeling inadequate, jeez.

Guild Wars 2 launches this weekend and I am so looking forward to it. I built a new computer pretty much just for this game, check it:

Here's a shot of a character I played during the last beta and the subsequent stress tests at the lowest graphical settings (which was all my old computer could manage, poor thing)
      9K16a.jpg

And here's the same shot with the graphics pumped up to max and a random player running around behind me
      loHzi.jpg

Guild Wars 2 is a really pretty game, even when you're looking at one of the more hideous characters in it :D

When I was young and growing up, I figured I'd buy a good-sized house with some land as an adult. Not a lot, but enough so that I didn't have neighbors breathing down my neck. Nice and spread out, with lots of trees and other greenery. Not a densely populated area, with any major shopping centers in the next town over so traffic isn't bad. Pretty much like where I grew up, actually.

Now the economy is terrible and I may never actually be able to afford a house. As it stands, I'm not too broke up about that. Currently I rent an apartment not far from the center of a major city and I'm pretty happy with it. I find I don't mind someone living on the other side of a wall from me, and I'm glad I'm not the one who has to care for the lawn and all the landscapery. There's tons of stuff to do nearby and the traffic is tolerable so long as you're not easily stressed by waiting at a light for more than one cycle during peak hours.

I may never own a home but that's fine for me, especially right now. Agility is important if you work in CG; a lot of your work will require you to move around from studio to studio. The only reason I've been in one place for so long is because I'm not in production, I'm in education. If I want to branch out, I have to be willing - and able - to move when it becomes necessary. Owning a home prevents that kind of mobility.

Fuck you, economy, I don't need a house anyway. lol

I have two keyboards on my desk, for a really stupid and convoluted reason.

See, I recently got a new desk. It's pretty awesome, a definite step up from the Frankensteinian monstrosity I had before, all cobbled together from a child's writing desk, an end table abandoned at my last apartment by an old roommate, and a footstool. I have a proper grownup's desk now and it's awesome. I even got a bracket thing to mount my PC tower in beneath the tabletop so that it wouldn't take up desk space OR sit on the floor inhaling dust and dog fur. But it worked out to be that the left side of the desk is the best place for it.

To change subjects for a moment, I have two mice as well as two keyboards. One is a wired piece of shit that came with the computer, the other is a cheapy wireless one. Over the years, they've both become wildly unreliable. The wired one doesn't work at all now, and the wireless can't pick up the signal from the USB transmitter thingy from more than about a foot away. This was fine when the tower was on the right side of my combo-desk directly next to my mousing area (or whatever you'd call the space where you shuffle your mouse around in), but now it is on the left of and underneath my new desk. This forces me to use the mouse on the left side of my desk, despite being right handed, at least until I decide on an overpriced replacement mouse.

So for now I have a keyboard in the center of the desk, where it makes more sense for me to type from comfortably. But for gaming, where you need to use both mouse and keyboard WITHOUT having your arms crossed awkwardly, I have my second keyboard placed on the far left of the desk, between the mouse and the edge. This has worked out well so far.

      But that's not the point.

The point here is that I just realized I was using the both of them at the same time, one hand on each. I was just saving a file and then when I went to type in a savename for it this happened. I didn't do this on purpose, I just

It's really weird. I am typing all of this with two different keyboards. I don't know why I feel like this is something actually noteworthy, but there it is. It's way more comfortable than putting both hands on one keyboard with my current idiotic setup, but I feel like I'm starring in a hacker movie from the 90s or something. Getting all Swordfish up in here.

P.S. - I really hate this interface for typing up journal entries. It's horrifically slow and bogged down for me, there is significant lag between pressing a key and seeing a letter appear on my screen. Fuck this awful shit forever, from now on I am typing entries up in notepad and copy/pasting them ugh

There's a song suggestions thread that Blawndee, 13Church, or FinchLynch take suggested songs from, and they announce the next song in newposts, the discussion thread, etc. We send our videos into the AOIO email that 13Church created, and they take all the footage and edit the whole thing together.

Believe me, I was actually going to write one like that earlier, but I was so dumbfounded to walk outside to my car and be verbally assaulted by a group of college students arguing about the election (my work is right near BYU Campus in Provo, Utah), throwing stuff at each other, name calling, cussing up a storm, and I thought to myself, "Self, this is worse than anything you could possibly imagine for a journal entry."

But yeah, it was just so disheartening to me. Here I was, thinking "Yeah, you know, Strix is right, I really should have voted, this election hasn't been so bad!" and then BAM, that happens, and it just turned me off to the whole concept again.

Who knows though, there are 4 years for my opinion to change on that. And right now, there's nothing I can do since the elections are over. I just have to hope and believe that change is coming, and support the man who will be leading this country, no matter who they may be. When it comes down to me having a real, genuine concern or problem, that's when I believe I'll go out with my community and make my voice heard...powa to da people.

      One love Strix. smiley1.gif

    • VocalDrummer

Actually, they weren't fictional. That's almost word for word, exactly what took place in front of my work when I was leaving on election night. I wish it was though, because it just disheartened me more towards voting for anything again.

Ultimately, I know we have to agree to disagree, but that's not a bad thing per se, it's part of what makes us, as Americans, great. We can have our own opinions, we can choose whether or not to do something, and nobody will beat us, arrest us, cane us, or anything like that for having a different opinion.

It's the one thing I love about this country. Even in Samoa, the "free speech" thing isn't as...how you say...nice towards the common citizen, when their opinion differs from that of the local government. You'll never find anything about it online, but from what my father tells me, people who protest or complain they way they do here in America...life is suddenly harder for them, from losing their jobs, to having bad things happen to their homes, their kids getting bullied and picked on in school...

    • Frankfurter

I support your “agree to disagree†I wish more people did that. Though I’m curious as to how they’d be able to establish another set of red and blue armies, another dead soldier coming back as a ghost, and another set of colors/uniforms for all the soldiers without causing way too much confusion.

If they could have done that, I still think it would have been better told with the characters they used, but we’ll agree to disagree on that point.

Also, Adult Swim’s video section isn’t working or I could have linked to one or two in the comment to prove I was joking.

I’d like to think ladies appreciate honesty. I mean I always hear them say they want a guy who tells them the truth.

Until they find a guy who tells them the truth...then they redefine what “truth†is.

I didn’t think I was being hostile, but I suppose the phrase “bitch like a bitch on the rag†could be taken as offensive by some bitches on the rag people. (I’m seriously joking mostly, so don’t think I’m actually being hostile. Especially about the "bitches on the rag" part. C'mon, that phrase is hilarious.)

My main point, however, is that I think the story hasn’t traveled far enough down the path to say you don’t like its direction yet.

Unless you mean you dislike how the show has more action and fight scenes and less standing around talking. And if that’s the case, I disagree. I like the action and fight scenes...though they had action and fight scenes as far back as season 1, just a little more spread out.

    • Frankfurter

During the middles of the first four seasons of LOST, people on the Internet would bitch like a group of 30 women on the rag at the same time all in one room where the heat was turned up, their cell phones weren’t working, and their boyfriends just called them fat.

Thankfully, the writers of LOST didn’t bother listening and instead continued writing and filming the remainder of each season.

At the end of the season, those same hormonal women calmed down and praised the show for the direction it took, including praising the very things they had bitched about earlier.

Point is, wait until the show is over before you bitch like a bitch on the rag. (Advice I’d give you even if you were a man...who was bitching like a bitch on the rag)

it's a screencap from the trailer for "Wolverine and the X-Men", which is a new animated series done by I think the same people. Basically, take your circa-2006-onwards- comics X-Men, kill (maybe "kill") Xavier, and put Wolverine in charge of raising team morale once they're disbanded to try and re-form the Xcrew to fight what I'm guessing are sentinels, Magneto, and a Stryker army. smiley8.gif basically, updating the looks but the same schtick. I honestly think that it's absurd to have LOGAN of all people get Scott out of his depression post-Xavier-death because it's so out of character for both, but this is for the kids so continuity can surely only be a secondary to "how can we sell toys and gain commercials?" because the young-un's are always... rabid for wolverine smiley0.gif

I'll probably watch it online anyways, but I'm a diehard X-fan so I can acknowledge the formulaic nature of taking it anywhere other than comics. who knows, it might be surprisingly good instead of meh.
