I kind of forgot about this place shortly after I moved.

I have a lot of alerts. I probably won't get to many of them - I usually end up getting discouraged if the number of new journals exceeds two.

I'm getting married in May 2011.

My new computer components should be arriving today!

I've been tracking them since they left Baldwin Park, California last Monday. The shipment got a transit scan at 9:41about 45 minutes north of me. I get to come home from work and start building a new computer. Excitement abounds.

That's right. We finally finish the new house to the point that we can comfortably live in it and I'm moving out. Des and I will be moving into a nearby one-bedroom apartment at the start of February. Excitement abounds.

I've always treasured the occasional opportunity for us to fall asleep and wake up the next morning together. Now we'll get to do so every day.

I keep hearing the word Snowmageddon being tossed around as a label for how proper-fucked the island has been for the past week and a half due to blizzard.

I hate that label. Who even came up with Snowmageddon? What were they thinking? How is that remotely clever and/or creative? All they did was replace Ar- with Snow-.

I have a suggestion for a better term to label this unwarranted attack by Mother Nature. I came up with it in about thirty seconds after I heard the weatherman say Snowmageddon one night.

      Apocalypse Snow.

This week XKCD updates every day. Stay tuned!

      Magical words.

So, last week Des was doing some future planning. Since we started dating, she has changed her mind about what she wants to do now pretty well weekly - sometimes more frequently. I really don't blame her, though; she's young, smart and ambitious. I was pretty well the same a few years ago when I finished school - minus the ambition.

She had planned to go to Vancouver Island University to take the Resident Care Attendant course, but then decided it really wasn't for her - even in the interim. Then she was looking at the Pharmacy Technician course at VIU, but wasn't even really sure about that. In the mean time, she's also been talking about wanting to travel. That's one of the few things she's been sure of since graduation.

Back to last week. She found something interesting. Teaching being one of the things that she would like to do, Des was intrigued by a Teaching ESL course that she came across at a Cambridge...subsidiary (I guess is what you'd call it)? In Prague. For those without knowledge of European capitals, that's in the Czech Republic. For those without knowledge of Google Earth, that's far away.

When we were talking about it on Messenger, she had determined that everything was legit (she knows someone who did the same thing over there) and said that she'd probably submit the application the next day. When I saw her a couple hours later, she decided not to wait and submitted the application that afternoon - I was delighted to see her being decisive. A few days later, they called her to do a phone interview - unfortunately, she was at work. She rescheduled the phone interview and did it yesterday (Saturday); we were expecting to hear back from the school by the end of the week - they said her age was a disadvantage, but her Canadian citizenship was a plus. I insisted that she was going to get accepted, no matter what.

This morning, we found out that I was right. I don't even know if it had been eighteen hours since the interview and they already emailed her acceptance letter to her. Her course starts on February 2. The course will last for four weeks, after which they are encouraged to work in Prague to start off. Work visas in the Czech Republic are normally only three months, though Canadian citizens apparently have an easy time getting extensions to six months.

Desiree will be gone from February to either May or August. We've talked about how it will impact our relationship. This girl is amazing and damned if I'm going to give up on her just because she'll probably be around the world for months at a time every year. Plus, if the computer classroom makes me as rich as I plan for it to, I'll be able to take a month off every time she goes and go visit her wherever she is. I get to see the world, too.

      Silver lining.

She plans to leave on January 25.

      90 days.

      Cloud.

Last night I was talking to my girlfriend about politics. I made the observation that a lot of attention has been given to the US election on our side of the party and wondered how many people living in the US were aware that Canada is having a federal election before the US is having theirs (ours is going to happen on October 14).

She then asked me how many people I thought that there were in Canada who even knew that.

The sad, sad truth is that, most likely, not nearly enough Canadians do.

I'm trying to find out what would be a good defragging utility for use with Windows Vista. It needs to incorporate a graphical representation of what's going on (more than just a spinning circle). Defraggler does offer this, but it's not the most impressive piece of software. PerfectDisk also offers this, but free and legal is what we need.

Does anybody have any suggestions before I start muddling through forums and going a bit crazy?

I just watched (well, listened to while playing Minesweeper - the penetrating eye-contact was unnerving) about twenty minutes of the vice-presidential debate...

Palin: "...I've only been at this for about five weeks..."

Oh dear. That's about all I need to hear. She seriously thought it was a good strategy to bring attention to that? I haven't been at this long enough to have even developed a platform that I may have to change in light of the current economic crisis. That's about the only question she gave a straight answer to and it was the wrong answer.

I seriously think she's insane. Oh, but she's so folksy - for all the good that would ever do.

Please US citizens, do not let that woman get anywhere close to the Oval Office.

September 23 will be my last day. It will also mark Desiree and I being together for four months - can't think of a better way to celebrate that than leaving my crappy job.

I quit on Wednesday. Then Desiree finally got a call back from a place she'd interviewed at on Thursday, so she quit on Friday. No more Staples for either of us - hooray!

That's quite alright. The D60 is not a cheap camera, I wasn't expecting too many people to own one.

I just feel like hand-writing something is better because it forces you to think about what you're going to put down instead of just typing and then saying "that sounds like shit... backspace!" If you hand-write it you're more apt to think about what you're going to right and try and do it really well the first time. It takes more thought, more effort, and therefore more creativity, making it better the first time around. That's just my opinion though.

So who does this curfew apply to?
-I think minors. Could be 16 and under.

What are the repercussions for not observing curfew?
-I haven't broken it so I'm not sure. Cops yelling at you? Maybe a fine if you disobey. Call to parents at least.

Is this a common thing in Minnesota? In the US?
-Minnesota yeah. Not sure if it's all of MN though. Big city to small town, we have a wide range and I'm guessing smaller farm towns don't even know the definition of curfew. Or the internet. Not sure about the US either since I haven't grown up any other place and knowing the laws of everywhere is not what I fancy.

Also, I know that you can't get in trouble if you're on your way home. I think.

curfew means you have to be at your home, inside, or traveling there. it was after curfew and he could not be out. i resolved it by letting him stay in the car in the parking lot. makes no sense to me, really.

Ishmael has over 37m skillpoints, he is the smart one. He also has +5 implants so he trains pretty fast.

Yeah, the Raven should be your bread and butter, thats the ship that will make you lots of isk. Caldari also have the Falcon, one of the most feared ships in the game. One Falcon can easily shut down 3 battleships and make them useless. We try to have at least one Falcon in our gangs, although 2 is even better :)

But battleship 5 is the skill that will allow you to buy all the nice ships to pvp in, and buy all the nicer modules the game has to offer.

    • Sxndy

Ishmael flies Thany, his skills aren't great and it will be a long time till they are as he is maxing out leadership (around 9million skill points or more to max)

But when he has his leadership maxed, Dax will be able to warp scramble @ 99km in his Arazu (bonuses got from Ishmael)

Drake is a great ship, we use them for gate camping. One passive drake can perma tank gate sentries while still having the ability to warp scramble anything that jumps through.

W4rp is working on leadership too, but he will specialise in shields, this will give a 25% bonus to: shield resistances, shield rep and remote rep amount, 25% less cap used to rep and remote rep, and a 15% bonus to shield size. He will also give the same bonuses for armour, but the % will be less (it will be the shield leadership implant he has plugged in his head).

A word of advice though, I would get Battleship to lvl 5 before Battlecruiser 5. Raven is prolly the most kick as Battleship in the game right now. It is great in PvP and great in missions. Few ships can put out the dps of a torp Raven while in battle.

I've got big troubles with EVE too, keeps crashing (a lot of people are having trouble)

Good news is that EVE Devs are really pleased with the upgrades to EVE voice and are throwing even more resources at it (even although everyone uses TS or Vent because they are virtually free and will always work better).

bah, I've found that killing other people makes them unhappy but makes me happy, so I'm going on a killing spree to make myself feel better, that'll teach everyone!
