I decided today to chronicle my day at work. I work as a cashier at the university's bookstore, and recently I've been downstairs in the tech part selling computers. Enjoy!

      9:01- Arrive at work

10:00- It's dead today. Manager tells me to clean the register area.

10:30- Almost sprayed myself in the face with cleaning fluid. That was close.

10:31- Just sprayed myself in the face with cleaning fluid.

10:35- Tried to wipe cleaning fluid off my face with cloth sprayed with cleaning fluid. World went blue for a minute. Eyes burning slightly.

11:00- Drank water. It tasted like ammonia.

11:15- I've set up an experiment: water, soda, and gatorade. A glass of cleaner is the control group.

11:17- Everything tastes like cleaner. Except the cleaner which tastes like snozzberries.

11:20- Drank cleaner to get rid of the cleaner taste. Getting dizzy. This could be a bit of a

      11:50- problem. What?

12:30- Going to lunch. It's raining. Looked up at the clouds. Giant spray bottles, no clouds. No one else notices, even when I point it out. They just don't care.

12:45- I threw my McDonald's in the air, because everyone was STARING at ME because I made them call me 'The Cleaner'! They all looked away after that. Chalk one up to The Cleaner!

1:00- I'm back in the store. They're all looking at me again. Just because I have a 1/4 Pounder patty on my head. So close-minded...

1:37- They're whispering. It's about me. I can FEEL IT.

RAGE- The register won't work. It keeps talking and yelling and it won't stop! So cold...so ANGRY

The hour of cleansing- No more whispers. No more yells. It is quiet now. The downstairs is The Domain of the Cleaner.

Half past cleansing- You know, for The Domain of the Cleaner it's fairly messy down here.

Darkness- So red...so still...where has it all gone? The blackness is open. THe ammonia has come and gone. Soon all will be finished. Soon all will...

3:30- Whoo, must have dozed off there. Sorry it was such a boring day, readers. Time for me to get out of here. Wonder where everyone is...
Oh, well. Better luck next time!

Like, Oh. My. God. I went and saw Twilight last night? And it was sooooo HOT!!!! :) <3 the vampires! So cute!

No. Not really. I have not seen Twilight. I have not read Twilight. When my girlfriend goes to watch it, I'm staying home and watching Blade Trinity.

...I said I was going to blog and journalize regularly, and I haven't. Yes, it makes me a bad person. I probably won't do anything regularly for a little while. Here's what's happened in my life so far this semester.

-My stepfather passed away after a 5 or 6 year long battle with prostate cancer. (Technically a week before semester started, but still)

-A month after that my grandfather (mom's father) passed away very unexpectedly from a heart attack

-Later that week I took my dog to the vet and had her put to sleep. She was very old, and we consulted the vet and she agreed it was best.

-I had to kick a roomate out due to all kinds of circumstances, and he is now refusing to sign a sublease and we're in the middle of a big battle where I'm trying to work with him, and he's refusing any kind of negotiating.

-Sunday my car tire blew out. And when I pulled my jack out of my car it was bent.

-And my gas has been off since Tuesday, because my ex-roomate didn't tell us when he took his name off of the bill. It won't be turned back on until tomorrow. In the meantime we've gotten all kinds of space heaters, I'm sleeping in my girlfriend's dorm room, and we're running the faucet at night to keep the pipes from freezing and bursting. Fun times.

On the positive side I figured out today that I'll be able to pay for this semester of college, so I can sign up for classes on time for the first time ever! Yayy! To celebrate i think my girlfriend, Lisa, and I are going to order an actual pizza for dinner tonight! That's right, we're splurging. I love pizza.

I'm also watching very silly movies for my film analysis class right now. Did I say silly? I meant shitty. That's what I meant. How silly of me. Aaaaaaaaand we totally just discovered one of the characters likes underage boys. Just 'cause, you know. Why not?

EDIT: Now little white boys are throwing rocks at a little black girl. And seem surprised that when they throw big rocks at her she falls down and bleeds. Ahhh, youth.

First off, Barack Obama won the election last week, and yes, I am very happy with the result. That's out of the way now, so it's time to move on to important things.

Last week I watched Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth'. It was interesting, and not as crazy as I had been warned. It did leave me with a few impressions (Which I wrote down for posterity, while sitting on my posterior, waiting for a time to post them on here. Aren't words fun?).

      * Al Gore at one point says "crev-asses" when he should say "crevices".
      * This proves what I've said all along. Screw Canada, it'll be melting and full of refugees (people who voted McCain-Palin). Australia is where it's at. Sure it's an island, but it's HUGE, and the middle part is fairly empty. Furthermore, if enough Americans move to Canada it will end up just like America, but with more irritating accents. Just walk around and imagine everyone talking in Sarah Palin's voice. Horrible. Now walk around imagining everyone talking like Steve Irwin. Awesome. Australia already has wonderful means of alternate transportation.

      KangarooBicycling_Large.jpg
Don't google image search "riding kangaroo" without the safe search feature on.

      * Al Gore is cute when he's angry.

I do realize it's not the fourth anymore, but i haven't slept yet, so there.
The past two nights have been awesome. Last week was tech week for Cabaret. Which means work 8-5 in the shop, finishing up the set for the other musical, and fixing up any problems with the cabaret set. Then running home to eat, then coming back to the theatre at 6: 30 for either a tech/dress rehearsal or a show. Then getting home at 11:30, eating, hanging out with my roommates, talking to my girlfriend on the phone, and then hopefully getting in bed by 12:30, but usually at 1 or 1:30.
      Whew.

Fortunately we had NOTHING on the fourth and i don't have to be in the shop on saturday, so the past two nights i have stayed up late just because I can. And today slept until 2:30 in the afternoon. That's right. Almost 12 hours of sleep. It was glorious.
And Resident Evil 4 on Pro mode is hard.

      Edit:
Oh, and i just posted a new blog entry at alexthehoopy.blogspot.com for the first time since January. I'm actually starting to get back into the swing of this writing thing. It'll probably last until classes start next semester, but for now I'm enjoying it.

I seem to keep going through phases with what I'm watching. I'll pick one thing and just eat it up. A couple of weeks ago it was older, short anime series, specifically Trigun and Cowboy Bebop (I'm still constantly listening to the soundtracks). Then I blew through Arrested Development. Now it's old Humphrey Bogart movies, which stemmed from a craving for film noir. As we speak I'm downloading Casablanca, which I've seen before and enjoyed, and the Maltese Falcon, which I'm looking forward to seeing for the first time. As a matter of fact I've pretty much decided that on halloween I'll be dressing up as a film noir private detective.

I also look very pathetic when playing video games, as my roomates kindly pointed out to me. About a week ago I was at work, and was screwing something together when the screwgun slipped and took a chunk out of my left thumb. Nothing too bad, just hurt a bit, and looks kinda nasty.
Yesterday I managed to hurt my right thumb with a brass thumbtack, but not in the way you think. Apparently the backs of those will break if you push them too hard. And the pointy ends don't go through wooden doors too well...

So now i have two bandaids, one on each thumb, and I end up alternating between wincing and cursing while playing Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 (the most ridiculous jump between easy and normal difficulty I have ever seen in any game). I like to think it just adds to the reality of the game. Any time a zombie bites my thumb, I greatly sympathize with my character. Seriously, it happens. Damn zombies.

Sitting in my house, my roomates have gone to bed, my girlfriend is in Okoboji, Iowa, and I can't sleep. So I figured I'd actually look at my RvB profile, which I've just been using to watch sponsor videos recently. Good times. With the new series, I might actually be on here more often.

      Edit
I would just like to point out how irritating it is, after having finally gotten a paying job in a theatre, to not get a paycheck for a month and a week. You'd the the payroll woman would have picked a more reasonable time to go on vacation. At least my first paycheck will be big. Then it will all go to paying off the money i've borrowed over the last couple of weeks, and I'll be right back where I am now. I had a decently paying job as a janitor at the hospital for a while, but after working 63 hours/week for a few weeks I had to quit.

Friends, it is time for the revolution. As I sit here with my laptop, Terry Pratchett book, thirst, and lack of motivation to go get a drink my only companions at 1:20 in the morning, I look back on the events of the past few days, blocking a few of them from memory in order to keep my sanity (seriously, can squirrels even DO that?).

As I sift through my memories I notice that a lot of them take place at the mall. Almost all of these involve frustration to some degree. I was quite happy when the Man (who, as we all know owns the mall) came up with some rules to keep annoying kids out of the mall (one of the Man's few accomplishments that I support). However it has come to my attention that we now face a greater peril than pre-teens (i'm including 15 year olds in this) getting in our way as they mope over to Hot Topic. I'm speaking of something worse than mere kids. I am speaking of CHILDREN. That's right. As I stood in line at the Hallmark store, wooden penguin in hand, contemplating the mysteries of life and my debit card, a middle-aged woman walked in front of me, her young son swinging his arms following close behind. As he passed in front of me, he PUNCHED ME IN THE KNEE. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, completely unprovoked, this little beast curled his eerily small hands into a fist and slammed it into my knee. Fortunately, as most of you know, I am made of stern stuff (such as bone, in the case of my knee).
It's not the physical discomfort that bothered me, it's the principle of the thing. In the words of my esteemed colleague, Scott Watkins, "What the hell?".

If there's anything worse than the children at the mall (or, indeed, in general), it's the lotion salespeople. You know who I'm talking about. "Hey, can I ask you a question?", "How many girls are you shopping for?", and, I kid you not, "Do you believe in magic?". The first few times they asked me, I politely responded with a simple, "No thank you." Then I went to the level of pretending to be on the phone when I walked by the stand. When even this failed to put them off (yes, they tried to sell me lotion while i was pretending to talk on the phone). I then escalated my response to the level of a sarcastic "YeahNO." When this failed to deter them I was at a loss, and was forced to ask the man who accosted me if he really had a soul.

These people must live horrible lives, God only knows what madness instilled in them (no doubt by the Man) drives them to ask you the same goddamn questions OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE MAYBE THEY'LL CARE THE THIRD TIME I ASK THEM. We must free these people from their shackles, comrades. For many it is too late, but we may yet save some of them. To arms! I'm getting a drink.

this is the first post from my new blog, which will be updated a heck of a lot more frequently than this will

You hit the nail on the head....especially when people are volunteering with something "cool" like high-content wolfdogs. There are a lot of things volunteers could do (clean enclosures, prep food bowls, building things), but most of them want to work with animals and a lot of the really useful stuff is pretty gross to do (like fixing up big bowls of raw meat). Plus, some of the animals are pretty skittish about lots of people or a lot of noise, so if the volunteers don't know how to handle themselves, even more trouble.

On the other hand, if a group like that turns down volunteers, it's horrible PR....so they just do the best they can.

It's a horrible movie. WIthout going into spoiler details, it had a really bad message. I'm not the kind of person who expects every movie to have a good message and improve the world, but I was pretty astounded at how socially irresponsible it was...and how no one really questioned it.

My professor does a seminar on domestic violence. I really need to work on those darn pronouns, huh? Jennifer Lopez's idea of a seminar would probably be teaching people how to break in a house and beat someone to death. (I really didn't like that movie.)
