Went to see my first opera last night. Not some fancy, professional thing at an opera house--just a little performance at a university music room. Took a minute to get used to it (and the subtitles--someone said it was in Italian), but damn, they were good. One of my faire friends was in it--she has a really nice voice, and did a great job on people's makeup. I got to say hi to her and her boyfriend, and we all stopped somewhere later for dinner. So glad I got to see them--we might get together again this summer. Then we'll be back at work (only 125 days away! ...oh, wait..)

Finally went down to faire last weekend. It was awesome. Easily worth the ~300 mile drive each way. Got to say hang out with one of my faire friends for a little while, saw a bunch of awesome shows (mostly Broon and musicians). Had fun interacting with all the random people on the way. And Broon started a caramel apple booth--that stuff was AMAZING. Couldn't even think of eating anything sweet for about eight hours after that, but it was so good. Unrelated: I don't think I'll ever be able to hear someone mention "sherbert" without laughing inside.
Also, I'm on thyroid meds now. Huzzah. Might start feeling a difference in the coming weeks..

The little rabbit my cat brought us one and a half days ago...he was doing great for a while, after the shock wore off, but we lost him at 1:08 this morning. Maybe it was an infection. Maybe he was too young. Maybe...there are so many "maybe"s, and as many "if only"s. Whatever it was, I'm glad that he didn't just die alone out on the driveway. I'm glad I could be there for him. I just wish we'd had more time.

My brother and I started feeling...not so good, yesterday. I have a sore throat, which I hope isn't going to turn into some nasty illness or another, partly because I was supposed to get a blood test tomorrow. Also because I'm just starting a new quarter (got three As and a C last time, btw. Kinda proud of myself :D ). And because getting sick sucks. Not as much as what my brother's going through, though--
He has acute appendicitis, and is going under the knife in less than an hour. I really hope it goes well. I don't ever want to become an only child. Not that way.

Kind of late edit: he made it through the surgery. He was recovering in the hospital for almost a week, and they discharged him on Wednesday so he could finish healing up at home. But then (Sunday night/Monday morning?) he started having chest pains, so he's in again so they can dissolve a blood clot in one of his lungs. He might be out again today (Tuesday), but he's going to need blood thinner shots for a little while..

Well, first off, I LOVE that car. It's amazing.
Second...finals next week. Fun stuff. Then I have a week off, then the next quarter starts. I'll be switching to Monday/Wednesday classes. And I STILL haven't been able to get into Trigonometry. There's 20+ people on the wait list, so..not a Snowball's chance in a cat scanner.
Saw my allergist again on Wednesday. The tests show that I'm allergic to tree pollen, cats, dust, and dust mites (my reaction to which, on their four-point scale, was a six), and that my lungs are perfectly fine. He gave me three more medicines to try--he wants to see if one of them can suppress the rest of my symptoms. The first one (allegra) seems to be working, but...thats just from one day. We'll see if that does it. Anyway, he's also trying to figure out WHY I'm having these reactions, since it's really unlikely that it's caused by a food or anything else, so he wanted to run some blood tests. I'd never had my blood drawn before. I was freaking out at the hospital. It was pitiful. But it didn't hurt nearly as much as I'd thought it would. Then I started laughing. No idea why. Anyway, if everything checks out, I think I'll give blood the next time my school has a drive going. And this is already going way longer than I thought it would. Jeez.
Visited an old teacher after leaving the hospital. Been cleaning my room like mad since yesterday, and I can now see most of my floor. That's a weird feeling. Found my Artemis Fowl books, lost my hematite ring. Not having it on my hand also feels really weird. And my brother came back from a physics conference today with a video card one of his friends is no longer using. A nice card. Yusss. He's installing it tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out.

My parents decided to sell our old Honda and get a Ford Focus. It's waaay nicer, has more fancy features, gets the same or better mileage, and it's pretty. I get to drive it. Yusss.
I think I'm going to like this.

Oh, and I finished the stab tests last Wednesday. Doesn't look like I'm allergic to anything else. Also did the breathing test. Going back this Wednesday to talk to my allergist about the results. Might be my last time going there, since there's not really anything we can do about the EIA--no cure, treatment hasn't been effective, not severe enough to be life-threatening in normal situations. Yeah. But we'll see.

    • Allergy testing...

Finished the first half of the skin tests today. They call it a scratch test, but that doesn't sound right...it was like getting poked with a needle thirty-six times on my back. And my back is weirdly sensitive. Not fun.
So anyway, the results: I have a pretty serious dust mite allergy, and...how the heck am I allergic to cats? I am, apparently, but...I don't get it. I've had cats since I was like...seven-ish. I've never noticed anything. ...Oh well. Whatever. I'm not getting rid of Chase just because I'm allergic to him. I'll just have to thoroughly clean my room soon...and in two weeks, I'm going back for more stab tests.

Went to an allergist today. He's pretty sure that I'm allergic to exercise, among other things (in your FACE, PE teachers!). So he gave me some antihistamine pills to try...and an inhaler...and a prescription for an EpiPen.I had no idea how expensive those things were. He showed me how to use one, but hopefully I'll never need to...it expires in a little over a year, though. I really hope my insurance covers that stuff.
Going back for tests next week. Can't remember if it's the breathing test or the skin test.
Oh, and I have a speech to give tomorrow. Aah, fun week...

One of my friends lost his mom today. He's, like..the nicest person in the world. Ever. He shouldn't have to deal with this kind of thing. I wish I could say something, anything, but...there are no words. I just wish, for him, life would be more fair.
