      It's been WAY too long since I've done anything here... And then I see that I've been made the Featured User of the site... Did not see that one coming, but thank you at any rate! smiley0.gif

      So, erm, hi everyone. Been four years (FOUR YEARS!!) since I've posted anything relevant, or at least done anything relevant here. Mostly been keeping tabs on the RT crew over on YouTube. Beyond that, I've been keeping myself busy with life.

      ...maybe I should update this thing a bit, fill it with relevant information...

      Might be time for me to float around the site a bit more. Certainly has been a long time since I've done so, and the RT Community has always been a good one.

      ...just very forgetful, and busy, and a whole lotta other things.

      Wow, I REALLY don't get around to updating this thing, do I? Fail on me... >.< Anyway, life's been good since having to deal with some family issues. The past year's essentially been to deal with that (or rather, help lift things up for me). Many contests won, many great prizes won, PAX Prime kicked ass, and I started working again. Fun times, most certainly.

      Been a bit rough again over the past month, though. Saw two family friends suffer big losses in their families. Got a viewing to attend after work tomorrow which is always a hard thing for me, seeing them mourn, trying to comfort them as best I can. Still, losing your mother or son is just gut-wrenching... Thoughts and prayers to them, most certainly.

      Other than the highs and lows, I've just been keeping myself busy as much as I can. Went to Video Games Live this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Hadn't gone since they first started back in '05, so seeing how much they've grown is pretty awesome. Also been trying to do more writing as of late. Working on a script for a short some friends and I will shoot this coming summer. Also working on a bigger writing project that's in the process of polishing and the like.

      I'm also looking into digital cameras, specifically more higher-end ones to try and spark my photography hobby again. I've been wanting to get a higher-end camera to do such a thing, and now that I'm working, I'd like to follow through on that and get something that'd be very nice and take good quality photos. On top of that, I'm also saving up for a trip to Japan in the (not-so) near future, so having something like that would also provide ample photo ops for me.

      So, yeah, that's life in a nutshell for me right now. I've gotta make a note to keep checking this thing and not just leave it to its devices (or something). Take care everyone, catch ya on the flip side.

      ,,,or something.

    • Desert Bus for Hope

      9 years ago

      TempestFox DETIA Intern

      Hey everybody! The guys over at LoadingReadyRun are running their annual Desert Bus for Hope... RIGHT NOW! In essence, they're playing the game Desert Bus for (right now) five days straight and are raising money in an assortment of ways: regular donations, live streaming auctions, donations to have the LRR crew sing or dance or watch New Moon, whatever you can think of. All the money will be donated to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity at the end of the run. Also, the amount of time played will be extended at each donation milestone.

      Now, you might be asking, "What the hell's Desert Bus?" To quote the Wikipedia page:

      ~~~~~~
      Desert Bus is the best known minigame in the package (Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors), and was a featured part of Electronic Gaming Monthly's preview. The objective of the game is to drive a bus from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada in real time at a maximum speed of 45mph. The feat requires 8 hours of continuous play to complete, since the game cannot be paused.
      The bus contains no passengers, and there is no scenery or other traffic on the road. The bus veers to the right slightly; as a result, it is impossible to tape down a button to go do something else and have the game end properly. If the bus veers off the road it will stall and be towed back to Tucson, also in real time. If the player makes it to Las Vegas, they will score exactly one point. The player then gets the option to make the return trip to Tucsonâ€'for another point (a decision they must make in a few seconds or the game ends). Players may continue to make trips and score points as long as their endurance holds out. Some players who have completed the trip have also noted that, although the scenery never changes, a bug splats on the windscreen about five hours through the first trip, and on the return trip the light does fade, with differences at dusk, and later a pitch black road where the player is guided only with headlights.
      ~~~~~~

      Insane, right? The LRR crew has already racked up a total of FIVE POINTS in 40 hours with no crashes. They're doing very well right now and are continuing to power through the game. Spread the word out! Twitter with the hashtag #desertrun! Help out a great cause and thank you in advance for any help you can provide, even if it's just getting the word out. Check out their Desert Bus site for more info about donating, the live streaming, or anything else you want to check out.

      Been too long, hasn't it RT?

      Long and short, drama is a bitch, dealing with your parents' divorce is also a bitch, writing during these bitchy events is very therapeutic, I'm likely to move out of state in the next few months. Also, being forced into guilt trips is bullshit, fucked up, and all the more reason why I'm likely to move out of state.

      Any questions?

      Just thought I'd hop on here and wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

      ...or a Happy Singles Awareness Day! (Or whatever that is said to be.)

      Me? I celebrate the latter, along with my birthday, which marks my 22nd, which makes me OLD!!!

      To the rest of you that don't fall into any of the other categories, carry on.

      (continued from Part 1)

      - Playing Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour with the sprained wrist

      Okay, so the long and short of the sprained wrist was due to me trying to run and jump to touch store signs along the way to the convention center and I ended up running a little too fast, missing one of the signs completely and taking a “ninja roll†forward, spraining my right wrist in the process.

      That out of the way, I still powered through a couple of songs on Expert Drums for both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour. I hadn’t had a chance to try Rock Band 2 because the line for the game was so long. My friends and I made it a note to play the game today and get in line early so we could play. We had agreed to play Down with the Sickness by Disturbed, but during the wait in line, we heard someone play Battery by Metallica. I really would have loved to power through that drum part, but was still satisfied with powering through Down with the Sickness (despite the fallout toward the beginning). I totally rocked the hell out of that song… XD

      After the Rock Band 2 performance, my friends and I made it back to the Guitar Hero World Tour booth (and in the process shocking StarSlay3r with my friend covered in Rock Band stickers), where we had a pair of performances with Livin’ on a Prayer (one with StarSlay3r) and a performance where I was asked to perform the vocals to the track Hot for Teacher. That certainly was a hell of a lot of fun, especially with the Hot for Teacher performance. I’ve been told after the song that there was a huge crowd gathering, filming the performance, taking pictures, and the like. The things that I do for the crowd, injuries and all…

      - Documenting the weekend with pictures and video

      I’ve always loved to take pictures and the like. I even bought an extra pair of 2 GB SD cards for my camera for the event so I could take high quality photos and high quality videos. At the end of the event, I had taken about 150+ pictures and have 11 videos online now. So many memories from the weekend and to have it documented is such a great feeling…

      ~~~~~~
      All in all, I had an awesome time. I got to meet people I’ve seen online for some time, get to know some people that I’ve talked to online for a good amount of time, I’ve made so many new friends, had awesome fun with my old friends along with my new ones, introduced people to each other and establish new connections… I honestly can say that this is one of the greatest moments in my life. I’d definitely love to save some money and travel around the States and even around the world and check out some more conventions. If any of you have the chance to attend any kind of convention in your area or if you have a chance to travel to one, definitely take advantage of the opportunity and have a great time.
      Sad thing, really... Sucks to see 'em go... For me, I say that the management and the city failed the team... If and when they do go, I'd like to see Bill Gates actually build a new stadium and get a new team going. I mean, Paul Allen bought the Seahawks, after all, so why not Bill Gates pay for a new stadium and get a new team.
      At least, that's what I think should happen...
