Chuck Shepherd's News of the Weird (.982)

      WEEK OF DECEMBER 3, 2006

      LEAD STORY

To settle a discrimination lawsuit by transsexual men in October, the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority agreed to open all of its restrooms on the basis of individuals' "gender expression," meaning that, for example, any man dressed seriously as a woman could choose the ladies' room. And the New York City government is currently considering adopting a rule to permit people to switch genders on their birth certificates, regardless of whether they've had surgery, as long as they've lived in the new gender for two years and a physician and a mental-health counselor approve. [New York Daily News, 10-24-06] [New York Times, 11-7-06]

Just goes to prove you never know whos in the stall next to you!

    • Christmas Festivities

      Tex724

Last night was my annual Christmas party at the country club. Sniper and I went after debating all day if we really wanted to go or not. At the last minute I decided we needed to go. Needless to say it was not the greatest company party I've been to but it wasn't bad. We had a decent steak dinner, drinks on the house and a bonus check. All in all not bad. Of course the best part was seeing a lot of my co-workers absolutly blasted. It's amazing what alcohol can do to people.
Anyways, we left early and headed to Wal-mart and picked Sniper up a 360. Once we got home, I completly lost him. I think he was up till 3:00 AM playing.
Now comes the hard part. What do you get a guy for Christmas who already has a new iMac, an iPod, a new stereo system and a new 360? Got any suggestions?

      Tex724

Yes, believe it or not, I am still alive. I haven't been on much lately due to job hunting and taking care of my daughter. She underwent a spinal hardware revision on Wed. so she is still healing.

By the way, if any of you guys every decide to contribute to a charitible organization, may I suggest the Shriner's Hospital. These guys are awsome! They have performed two surgeries on my daughter, handle all of her clinical visits and provided me a place to stay without charging me a dime! And that's not the best part....the doctors, nurses, PCT's, MA's, ect... are what make this place so special. Everyone really does care about these children and thier families, and it shows. It's amazing. smiley0.gif

Well, I am going to start going through my alerts list. It may take me a while to catch up so if you receive a journal bomb from an entry made two months ago, you will know who it's from.

    • Is there a doctor in the house!

      Tex724

Since my last day at work (January 30th) I've been couped up at the house with an aching back. Mind you this is not the little ouch take some Tylenol and you'll be fine type pain, this is Darvocet and muscle relaxers, heating pad and electric nerve stimulation type pain. I've been sleeping in a recliner for a week which sucks, I can't drive because I own a Miata which is too low to the ground for me to get into right now and it's a manual. Pushing on the clutch and gas pedals cause intirely too much pain and some really colorful words I might add. smiley4.gif

Needless to say my physical state has caused a slight pause in my job search. It's not like I can jump up, get dressed and drive to an interview right now. Plus, I don't think any possible new employer would be very impressed with any employee comming to an interview with back problems. So, I have put my first foot forward towards the real estate gig. I ordered the textbook in which the course is taught from and started reading. I have also been in touch with Kaal who has been alot of help. Thanks for suggesting him ESP. I have also put my resume on the local employment website which seems to be working pretty well. I guess only time will tell.

In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out a way to make my doctor suffer as much as I am now. I went to see him last Thursday. He didn't even examine me before prescribing drugs. Not only that but he insulted me. He told me that the reason "he thought" that my back was hurting was because my muscles were weak. Mind you I'm not a body builder nor do I try to kill myself at the gym 3 to 4 times a week but I do exercise. Week muscles my ass! So if any of you have any really good suggestions, let me know.

      Tex724

I quit as of yesterday. I would be dancing a jig but a have a nerve that is causing great pain and misery to my right hip right now. Looks like I may have to wait a while for the celebration. I did have a bit of a snicker when I left though. smiley0.gif

Well, to update everyone on my night on the town...it sucked! smiley5.gif That's about it. Everywhere we went the music was OVERLY loud, there was literally no room on the dance floor and they only sold drinks that were popular with the college crowd. (Bud, Bud Light and Yagger bombs) Needless to say we left, bought our own mixers and headed back to Amanda's apt. We all stayed up till 4 am talking, went to sleep and was back up at 7:30 am heading home. I now know why I don't do that anymore. I don't think I caught up on my sleep until the next weekend. smiley3.gif Anyways, now that I am unemployed for the momment, I have decided to make a major career change. I have decided to become a licensed realtor. Of course I will find something to do while I am studying for the state exam, but I think it will be worth it in the end. smiley1.gif And if that's not enough, Sniper has decided to possibly start on a new career as well in computers. (Thanks Dingo!) So for the next year we both will probably be slap happy from studying. Wish us luck smiley11.gif

    • Having fun at work

      Tex724

So I went to work this morning. First thing, I had a talk with the internal auditor. I told her about my outlook on things and she accepted it as reasonable and understandable. I told her that my personal life was not worth sacrificing for my professional life. I also explained that I did not like the feeling that I had to look over my shoulder every time I walked into the office. She nodded and seemed to understand. I told her that I would stay until someone was trained and my desk was cleared. She agreed.

Well, durring the course of the day, I sat at my desk, working and watching the two winches squirm. Is was so much fun I'm going back tomarrow! It appears that thier true colors are showing and the light is finally shining through. I can't wait for the explosion! Anyone have popcorn? This is becomming fun! S29.gif

    • Just chillin'

      Tex724

I stayed home today doing absolutely nothing which is cool. It's nice to be lazzy from time to time. I did give myself a manicure though.

I have finally made up my mind. I called my old job today. I let them know that I'm leaving my current job and willing to come back if they need me. I'm going to stay at my current job until they call me or something else comes along. I'm also calling my Chrysler District Manager to find out what other dealerships are looking for help. From what I hear a lot of them are in need.

Monday I am going to go into work cold as ice. I'm going to let them know exactly what I think of them and tell them I am there only to train someone in Jeep warranty. I'll give them two weeks. If Heather cannot pick it up by then, oh well! That's thier tough luck. If they don't like that, they can learn it on thier own. S11.gif

    • Decisions, decisions...

      Tex724

I got a call from the internal auditor this morning. Apparently no-one got my e-mail containing my resignation. She was calling to see what was up. (If I was quitting or not I'm sure) Durn e-mail, it never works when you want it to. S21.gif

I told her that the stress and lack of organization was not worth my sanity. Now she comes out with wanting to keep me on board as the Jeep and Buick warranty clerk and take all the B.S. off of me. Then, when the new building is built (about a year and a half away) maybe the job will evolve into more depending on the circumstances.

So now I'm thinking..........If I stay, I get to be just one of the girls, do my job and go home. I keep my salary and still have opportunities. Also if I stay I will have to deal with the bratty girls in the office who apparently have a vendetta agaist me. If I stay, I don't have to go out job hunting and Sniper will be there if I need to talk.

I told her that I would think about it. She is marking me down as taking a personal day today, so I guess that means I'm still employed. I'm so confused.....what do I do? S15.gif

    • I may just QUIT!

      Tex724

On my way to work this morning, I got a phone call from work. It's Heather, one of my staff, who asks me where am I. I told her I would be there in about 2 minutes. She says "well, we may just have a crisis here". Come to find out, my cashier came in bright and early to see the General Manager to give her immediate notice to quit. Great! Just what I need.

I get to work and find out that our corporate controller, dealership controller and corporate auditor wants to have a meeting with me and all of my staff. Oh boy, the fun is just now begining!

The meeting's agenda blindsided me. It was all about people pointing fingers at eachother and not getting along. The whole time I'm thinking to myself "Where did all this shit come from?". After the meeting I took the internal auditor to the side and asked her to explain to me what that was all about. Come to find out, it all stemed from me making one comment yesterday about my cashier not comming back to work after her New Employee Orientation class. All I said was that she was supposed to come back. That's all, that's it, nothing more nothing less! Then I'm told I had Heather in tears yesterday.........how?..........why?........I have no clue.

Now I'm being told that I am no longer considered a manager because of my bad attitude. Bad attitude! What, because I'm over stressed, over worked, under paid, have no support and an office full of overly touchy staff. WTF! S25.gif

I came home crying.......S05.gif I'm not quite sure if I'm going to quit or not. We need the money but the stress is getting to be overwhelming. I'm supposed to call the auditor back later. I guess I have alot of thinking to do.

I woke up this morning as I usually do around 6:00 - 6:30, woke the kids up for school and headed for the shower. I really felt crummy. When I got out of the shower I noticed I had no color in my face. I decided to go back to bed. Figures, my iron levels bottomed out again. So I slept until 12:00 (which I needed desperately), and drank beet juice. Yum! S13.gif

But, at least I had a little while to surf the internet, something I rarely have time to do. I came accross a site I thought you guys and gals might like. Some of these people are just nuts!

Eh...I've never really been anywhere else cold to compare it to. But it gets pretty humid here in the summer. But winters are pretty dry... well, except for the snow. But. I have no idea. I never really seems that cold to me. In fact, I do remember being inTN and freezing at temperatures that I know would have hardly phased me before. So, that might be true. It should would explain things. smiley0.gif

Yeah... I was born and grew up in Ohio. If it gets to 72 degrees, I roast. smiley8.gif Well, not really. Ohio is one of the few states that manages to range anywhere from -10 to 110 in the course of a year. But I love the cold. Its one of the few reasons I was happy to move back to Ohio from Tennesee. This in reply to your post over on the Stephen King thread... I wanted to make sure you saw my reply. :)

      hi Tex!
The important thing to remember about Dark Tower is that King started writing them when he was very, very young and not exactly a great writer. Therefore, the story is great, but you really do have to suffer through some mediocre writing. But suffer, by the third book, its up to King's normal standards and everything else starts to fall into place.

I can't say they are my fav King books (The Stand, Pet Semetary, IT) but they are far far far up there and, oddly enough, take a higher position on my overall favorite books lists.

Don't ask. Things are weighted weird....
