Of all the games I have played over the years, Halo 2 was far and beyond my favourite. I have some fantastic memories of that game and the times I played with many members of RvB that I met along the way and still talk to now.

Let the good times roll smiley0.gif

Awesome Fan Made Opening Title Sequence For Man of Steel

This fan made opening sequence for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel film by Will & Tale is a hugely impressive piece of work. The attention to detail for the short sequence is great, as they not only created every frame themselves, (no used footage) but also went the extra mile to create some great press clippings that feature in the video.

    • Review for Oblivion [Spoilers]

      Full review here

I watched this last Friday at my local IMAX with high hopes that Joseph Kosinski's visual telling of his unpublished novel of the same name was going to be one of this years stand out films; unfortunately the hype and marketing turned out to be better than the final product as it often the case these days.
The movie is set in the beautiful country of Iceland, and cinematography wise it looked great owing the stunningly unique vistas that the county has to offer. It was shot in 4K using the brand new Sony CineAlta F65 camera, which was a good decision of the director who tested various other means of filming including 3D which he dropped in favor of 4K.
The film itself actually starts off OK for the first 40 minutes, but then started to get a tad boring. It's only when we are introduced to some of the human survivors on Earth, lead by Morgan Freeman (Beech) and his No.2 played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Sykes) that the film begins to look like it will begin to move in a better direction. Sadly, both Freeman and Coster-Waldau parts in the film are underused and fairly short, which is a pity as there could have been some great dialogue scenes if they had of allowed the 3 actors to bounce-off each other.

The Sun Unleashes Stunning M4.7 Class Flare

Yesterday, our Sun unleashed an incredible M4.7 Class flare that was captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. The flare only lasted a short amount of time, and there were no CME's (Coronal Mass Ejections) associated with it.

The image below is shown in the 131 Angstrom wavelength, a wavelength that is typically colorized in teal and that provided the most detailed picture of this particular flare.

The producers of True Blood have released the latest teaser for Season 5 on their YouTube channel entitled, Vampyr Tease.

Treyarch Studios are due to release the much anticipated trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 today.

Last week FPSRussia released a video for the Prototype Quadrotor with Machine Gun attached which the official Twitter account for CoD said they could neither confirm or deny.

Turned out that it was in fact true and was a great look at what the new weapon could do.

Deleted Scenes From Star Trek 2009

Whenever films are made, there will always be certain scenes that didn’t make the cut for various reasons. These can be for many reasons from time constraints, confusing the story line to just not good enough.
In Star Trek (2009) JJ Abrams actually filmed quite a lot more than finally made it to the final cut. One of the scenes that was cut that I really liked was when Nero’s ship, the mining vessel Narada, was surrounded and captured by the Klingon’s. His crew then spent 20 years on the Klingon prison planet of Rura Penthe. The scenes with Nero in prison, being tortured and his subsequent escape are great, but I can see now why the director made the decision to cut the scenes as it would have confused the story line......

Yeah I'm not sure what is up with the States and their nation-wide budget cuts on get this..... 1)Education 2)Medical field 3)Public Safety (aka police, fire). Its almost like their is some underlying force that is trying to send the country in a rapid downward spiral, but I digress and won't get into that topic.

Thanks for the comment and I hope things are going well on your end as well. Its nice to finally have a little bit of time to start getting active on here again.

I assumed that since it said late morning, that it would be at least 1:00-2:00PM EST before it came at, so I decided it'd be better to just go to work like I normally would, and download it when I get back. Depending on the download time, I may be on 6 or 7 here, so I guess 12 or 1 there. If you're not on that late, I will definitely be on early tomorrow.

Output quality is whatever shape the VHS is in. When I put them on DVD it creates a menu for each title, but I didn't take the time to put chapters in the place of when the different episodes start. I was just lazy. The only issue is remembering to stop the recording on the PC after the tape has run out, otherwise I got hours of black, that I have to trim out.

...you will also eventually get the chance to start doing the day shifts.

This is the problem, I already am doing day shifts. So just when I get used to nights, I change over to evenings then when I get used to evenings I'm back on days again.

It is too good an opportunity to pass up though so I'll just have to grin and bare it.

I didn't realise that you are CCNA certified?

      Aye I am...or rather I was....or rather I was but only after a fashion.
I studied it at college but for some reason we only took the exams at the end of each module and not the full blown exam. So even though I had done 99% of the work, I wasn't strictly CCNA certified.
I later found out that you have to re-certify every 3 years and I'll be hitting that mark around May/June so it makes sense to do it again anyway.

Cheers for the offer of the materials, I actually have all of my notes and slides squirrelled away on my external hard drive so I should be covered thanks.

I take it you have your CV with most of the big recruitment people in London? Reeds etc...

Aye, they've yet to show their through worth though unfortunately. Most of the time they direct me towards jobs where I've already been unsuccessful in my application.

Stick with it mate and you will get there. Have you thought about saying to them that you would be willing to work for their company for free on Saturdays? I know that may sound crazy, but that way both parties could win: you get a major foot in the door (they get to see your worth) and they get free IT help (for a short while)

I may well end up doing this, although I was looking at doing a 6-8 week internship. In either case it's a foot in the door as you said and it will look good on my CV. Bound to be a winner in the long run.

You could also offer home IT tuition/ computer repair via Looot magazine?

I've not really thought about that but it is a great idea. The jobs I'm looking at are tech support anyway so it wouldn't hurt my cause at all. Definitely something to look into!

Cheers for the advice mate, definite food for thought. Hope you're keeping well,
      J

All the stuff I was worried of losing, iTunes purchases were able to be transferred off my iPod and iPhone by iTunes easily. So no worries there. The rest I had backups on external drives.

Was the disk spinning loose at the time and did it also kill the drive?

The disk had only started spinning a second or so before it went boom but I suspect that as it was fairly old it may have had a crack in it.
Luckily the drive is fine. I had to spend a fair amount of time getting the debris out of the internals but it seems to have paid off.
