One of the reasons I stopped writing journals because, more and more, I realized that no one really cared. I mean, how much could someone care about a random dude who writes journals about procrastinating?

As I say this, I know that there are people here who were incredibly nice to me, and it meant a lot to me. You may have actually read and taken interest in what was happening in my life, and I don't mean to deny that.

But, of course, there's a lot of truth to that sentiment. Internet friends are a strange thing. It's hard to always feel some relationship to people who you never meet, whose daily activities are in no way connected to your own. And nobody forces you to interact with them (because they can't, and because it would be kind of weird). So this disconnect is reinforced.

Now I realize that I don't care if no one actually cares. That disconnect was useful. It allowed me to practice expressing myself in a way that other people could understand, without feeling the need to censor myself, because I don't have any real-life connection to you guys.

I suppose there were lots of reasons that I stopped writing here. I also began to have a real life, real responsibilities, and real relationships that made virtual ones less meaningful.

Yet, I've suddenly had the urge to share these real things here, in this journal. And though you might be interested in them, I'm not really writing them for you (whoever you are). This is for my own personal benefit.

But I certainly won't complain if you care.

I'll write a journal soon. Maybe.

I'm gonna tell you what I've done recently... but I'm gonna go backwards.

Today was a day for doing things that I've been putting off. I just got done washing my car. It was pretty dirty. I got a haircut earlier today after work... it's been months since my last one.

I saw Quarantine last night. It was actually pretty good, although the ratio of stupid decisions to smart decisions made by the characters was kinda ridiculous. Maya from Heroes was in it. That was amusing.

I saw two concerts over the weekend. Flogging Molly on Sunday, which I had won tickets to a few months ago. Kings of Leon on Saturday. We Are Scientists ( smiley0.gif ) and the Stills opened. Had to sit way far away because they were the best tickets available when I bought them. They played two shows and both sold out. I didn't really mind sitting up in the seats, but I wish I could have been closer.

On Saturday I also went to the Red Bull Soapbox Race in San Francisco. It was fun. My favorites were the giant Rubik's Cube, the Taco Truck (the people threw taco shells out the back of the cart), and the Breakfast Club (a giant frying pan with people dressed up as eggs & bacon) because they had an awesome crash which tore the thing apart. Oh, and the Death Star. But there were heeeeeeella people in the park where they held it. 75,000 they said. I don't know how they got the number, but I believe it. It took me over an hour to find parking nearby, and I ended up parking hella far away. But! I found a CD rack that someone was giving away near where I parked, so on our way back I took it and put it in my car because I needed one. I was keeping my CDs on my bookshelf before, but I ran out of room. Yay for free things!

Hmm... my memory's kinda fuzzy about what I did before that, but I don't think I told you about how I won tickets to the Treasure Island Music Festival. Yes I realize I already saw the majority of the headliners at Coachella, but it was totally worth it. It was nice being able to actually see the bands, and not having to miss parts of anyone's performance, since there were only two stages and they staggered them. Downsides: literally in the middle of the bay (brrrr), 2nd stage was tiny, no parking on the Island so you have to take a bus (not so bad on the way over, but the line afterward takes foooreeeever).

Hmm... that's about all for now. I guess I'll do my "daily" music suggestions. I'm going to make them short because I struggled on the last two to write entire paragraphs about them

      Local band of the day
Dave Smallen/Street to Nowhere. I like this guy. He's kinda emo sometimes, but not in an annoying way. Very good lyrics.

      Not-local band of the day
White Lies. Huge in the UK. Hardly known here. Sound like Editors and Interpol. Maybe a little to much. But they've got plenty of potential.

I (finally) uploaded my Coachella pics, in case you didn't notice. Videos will be uploaded to YouTube eventually (you should keep bothering me about that, because you'll want to see them. I've got Vampire Weekend performing an unreleased song, Prince covering Radiohead and the Beatles, 3 Pink Floyd songs performed by Roger Waters, and more).

I started school on Wednesday. I'm taking soccer for PE, 2 classes for radio, US History, and Journalism. I decided to go to Journalism after I couldn't add into an English class (there were more people trying to add than were actually enrolled), and I'm really glad I did, because I think I'm going to enjoy it. Actually, with the exception of History, I think I'm going to enjoy all of my classes. History is going to be easy (no homework, open book/notes for the tests), but I think the class is going to be mostly lecture (snore), and I can't skip (well, more than 3 classes, anyway).

I'm going to start DJing soon, on both KALX and the Chabot radio station, and I still haven't thought of a cool DJ name, so I want you to give me some suggestions.

I feel like there's something else I wanted to talk about, but I can't remember right now. Oh well.

      Local Band of the Day
Scissors for Lefty. Power pop at its best. If they're not my favorite local band, then they're definitely my second favorite. These guys could (should) be huge. I've seen them once live (skipped math class to go see them for free... totally worth it), and I'm going to see them again next weekend. If they ever tour near you, you need to see them. Their CD is available in the UK, so no excuse for not buying it if you live there. I should stop trying to explain them and just let you listen for yourself.

      Not-Local Band of the Day
Operator Please. An energetic young five piece from Australia who know how to use an electric violin without sounding lame. They're pretty big in Australia and the UK, so you may have heard of them. "Leave It Alone" is catchy as all hell, and "Just a Song About Ping Pong" is crazy and ridiculous. Got their debut album "Yes Yes Vindictive" as an import on Amazon (only $12 including shipping, somehow). There's a couple slow, girly pop songs on the album (which aren't so bad, actually), but the rest is fun, energetic pop goodness. Can't wait to see them live (whenever they decide to get their asses across the Pacific). More songs on Myspace.

Two journals in the same week? WTF is going on here? I dunno, I kinda want to do journals more often. I don't know if it will actually happen though.

Olympic Soccer has it's own channel. That rules. Also, Weezer is going on tour, but it's $50, the closest their coming is San Jose, and Angels and Airwaves are opening. So I'm not sure if I want to go. But I don't know if I'd ever forgive myself if I missed Weezer this time and they never toured again. I don't want the same thing that happened with Be Your Own Pet (the fact that they were here and I missed them and then they broke up before I ever got to see them live) to happen with Weezer. Also, Wolfmother update: Andrew (lead singer) will be continuing Wolfmother with new people. Chris and Myles (the other guys) will be doing a different project together.

I used to do this thing called "Random 80s Song of the Day" (I say "used to," but I think I only did it like 3 times), but I got bored of it. I mean, everyone knows all the good 80s songs anyway. I've decided I'm going to do something called "Local Band of the Day" because there are a lot of good local bands in the Bay Area. I'm also going to do "Not-Local Band of the Day" because there are a lot of new-ish bands that I like that aren't local, and they deserve to be mentioned by me (for whatever that's worth) as well. Also, despite their names, they won't be daily, because I'm lazy. They'll be whenever I post a journal.

      Local Band of the Day
The Trophy Fire. They're not my favorite local band, but they're good, and they totally rocked when they opened the show I saw last Saturday, which is why I'm featuring them first. They used to be in a band called Dear Kerosene, who you can check out here if you want. They also have more songs on their myspace.

      Not-Local Band of the Day
Low vs Diamond. This is one of the other bands I saw on Saturday (and the main reason I went to the show). These guys are right on the verge of becoming huge. They were signed by the same label (in fact, the same exact guy) that first signed the Killers. Their single is Heart Attack (available on their myspace), but my favorite song of theirs is Killer B. You'll definitely be hearing a lot more of them in the future, but now you can say you knew about them before they were huge.

if someone asked me to do it, I'd mod the PCE or P&T forms, but I'm not about to go whoring myself around the site begging people to nominate me. If they think I deserve it, they will, and whoring is a pretty sure way to make sure that doesn't happen, at least with the people I respect.
