    • New Site!

      TheSylvester

I'll join the endless tirade of "new site" journal entries, I guess.

I really like it! There are a few bugs (logged out when opening a new tab, forums not working, shows without show icons are ugly looking) but nothing too serious, which is pretty impressive at this stage, right?

I love that you can follow shows, that'll make me much more likely to watch shows on the site as opposed to YouTube. I like the style. I think it'll be great in time! Hopefully it'll draw more users in and make it even more thriving than it is (which I don't even know what the state of it is right now, being as I'm hardly here. I also need to catch up on RWBY, RvB, and other various shows so I can participate in the forums when they're back up.)

    • Sponsor Again!

      TheSylvester

I originally wanted to re-sponsor to get access to the new website beta code, but then I saw that they were releasing it ANYWAY come next week.

Then I saw that the next episode of Million Dollars, But... was up for sponsors only and, man, I had to get into THAT SHIT.

    • Games Beat in 2014 EXTRA #1: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Da Vinci Disappea

      TheSylvester

Just a DLC, so it only took me a couple hours, but it was a lot of fun! The AC series seems to have a weird tendency to release DLC that are actually essential to the story, at least in later installments, which I'm not too fond of, but they don't disappoint in the content of those DLC packs. This one was no different, giving me more Leonardo da Vinci, which was awesome because he's great. Most of the missions were standard fare but the catacombs were neat and similar to the Romulus Dens from the main game, which were cool.

Next game on my list: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (and all the achievements!)

    • Games Beat in 2014 #1: Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

      TheSylvester

After 5 years of owning this game and 129 hours on this particular character (190 overall according to Raptr, but I'm sure I've done more than a couple offline hours in those past five years) I have finally beaten Oblivion. Well, not BEATEN, I suppose, I didn't do EVERYTHING the game had to offer but I did complete the main questline, complete all the guilds and the arena, bought all the houses, got the best bow in the game, and completed all the Daedric Shrine quests, so I think I did enough to warrant me moving onto something else.

Super fun game though! Even though it came out years ago and the NPC designs, animations, and behaviors leave something to be desired, it's still super beautiful and I often found myself stopping to look at the trees or the grass or something like that while I made my way around Cyrodil (I did not use fast travel except in cases of the game freezing and me losing progress I had already made). Some of the quests were frustrating as my main method of attack was sneaking and archery, which sucks in well lit areas and places you can't really hide, but I succeeded in the end. Glad I can finally put this game on the shelf until a replay years into the future.

Next game on my list: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood DLC! (Not really a game, but whatever.)

    • 2014 Gaming

      TheSylvester

Inspired by last week's Patch to see what I'm going to be doing in 2014 gaming-wise.

Most of 2014 is going to be catching up on series I fell behind on. Assassin's Creed from The Da Vinci Disappearance DLC in Brotherhood all the way up to Black Flag. Replaying through the Halo series including Anniversary and 4, which I haven't played. Red Dead Redemption. Skyrim. Replaying, with DLC for the first time, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. Maybe Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Saints Row the Third and 4, if I ever get them. Tomb Raider. Uncharted series. The Last of Us. The Walking Dead by Telltale.

The only thing that complicates this for me are the releases of Watch_Dogs and Destiny, among others. Those two in particular seem like very long games in terms of hours, and once they come out (if I get them), they'll suck my time away from actually playing through things I've put off for years.

If anyone reads this, what are you playing in 2014? Any new releases you're looking forward to? Replaying old games? Finally catching up?

      TheSylvester

This is probably the 100th time I've done this, and I don't know how successful it'll be, but I want this website to have a larger part in my life come 2014. I was thinking about how I'll have been a fan of this company for 5 years (1/4 of my whole life) come March, and while they still maintain a very active presence due to me digesting every bit of their content they release every day, I don't use this site at all anymore, only to watch videos before they're released on YouTube.

It feels wrong to just let something that pretty much changed my entire life fall by the wayside, even if it's in the form of a website. I don't use "change my entire life" lightly either. This website, this community, directly led me to where I am today. Literally where I am sitting at this minute. Because without this website, I would have never met the girl whose house I am sitting in right now, and whose state I moved to to go to college (although will soon be moving out of with said girl back to my home state). It's crazy to think that something so stupid as watching a stupid series online would change my life for the better in such a profound way...

That's not the journal I meant to type out at all, but it's good to reflect.

What this means is I'm going to actively try to make RT my home on the internet again (as Facebook is the only thing that would come close to right now). Hopefully that means posting more journals, participating in the forums, watching the videos, and sponsoring.

The only thing it means for sure is that YOU HAVE MORE OF ME.

      Game of Thrones tonight.

Even though I've read this part in the book before, the scene still got to me.

Anyone who doesn't watch that show... Please go watch through all three seasons right now. Even though it was heartbreaking, this episode is the reason why every single human should watch it.

    • I miss this site.

      TheSylvester

I've met a lot of people through here, most of whom have stopped using it as much. And, honestly, it completely changed my life. I wouldn't be where I was today, literally, if I had never discovered this wonderful site and its community.

So it's sad that I never come back here, sometimes. I try, but there's no really good place to go on the site.

      Sappy post is sappy.

    • I Don't Really Understand Something

      TheSylvester

The internet has entire websites based around communities of a specific sect of entertainment, such as Rooster Teeth, and the internet also has websites based around complete social integration on a general scale, like Facebook.

Why hasn't anyone created a site that does both? I would TOTALLY sign up for a website that allowed me to update my entire entertainment library (games, movies, TV shows, comics, books, etc.) or just things I've seen. I could add ratings, reviews, favorite certain items. The site would examine which genres were my favorites, which actors/authors/artists I gravitated towards, and based possibly match me up with people with similar tastes! The "Match.com" aspect doesn't need to be there, but I don't get why there hasn't been a website that offers a general community for the entertainment you enjoy, based completely around that idea. We, as a society, put a whole lot of stock on what we, and others, enjoy watching/reading/listening to already, so why not make it a social thing? Like, a Facebook for entertainment, if that makes sense.

Maybe this idea is kind of outdated due to the fact that Facebook can do this on a smaller scale, but I think it would be a good idea.

Edit: Further features on this website might be number of times you have watched the movie/TV show, read the book, played the game, listened to the song. Maybe how many hours you've spent on the game, things like that. A Raptr for everything.

To be honest, none of the Final Fantasy characters work in Kingdom Hearts too well. Squall is the primary example. He's a loner and he doesn't get along with anybody and isn't that charismatic. But in Kingdom Hearts he is completely different. And he's called Leon. Which is a bit annoying. I don't like calling him that. So in the end, none of the Final Fantasy characters aren't really themselves, especially Tifa. Who turned into a more supportive type. I
don't mind that though as Kingdom Hearts is non-canon to the Final Fantasy characters. smiley0.gif
This is what Tifa is like most of the time. smiley0.gif

WRONG. Sam actually was my first, technically. If making out and fingering counts for anything. I was just too dumb to really realize what any of it meant other than being "super best friends". I kinda just forgot about it later on. Didn't realize until a little while ago that what we had done together hadn't been exactly what friends do.

Yeah, dude, I love Sum 41. All Killer No Filler was my 8th grade soundtrack. I've boughtprocured all the albums since then. I was kinda bummed when Dave left the band though. Underclass Hero was awesome, but you could definitely tell his ax power was missing.
