I've been watching FX ever since I stumbled on Nip/Tuck a few years back and I have to say it has some of the best shows on television right now with a perfect blend of realism and drama. I watched all of last seasons the shield and couldn't get enough but then I found out about Rescue Me. Man I don't know what it is about this show, but for somer reason I can't get enough of it. I liked watching The Shield and Nip Tuck on FX, but Rescue Me is on an entirely different fucking level. The show isn't as action packed as The Shield, or as character driven as Nip/Tuck, but it has the best characterization of either show.

This is probably the best role I have ever seen Denise Leary in, hell this is probably the best acting I've ever seen on television. Just watching the show and seeing how fucked up Tommy's life is and how he's at fault for most of it makes you really feel for the guy. I've never seen a show that conveys emotion the way Rescue Me does, everyone of the character you care about and feel for. Just watching Tommy do something as simple as making a phone call is amazing since he's so out of control.

The ending of the 1st episode of the second season when he's sitting on the couch watching a home movie of his family before his life went to hell, pours alchohol all over himself, flicks his lighter on, and sits there holding it close to himself listening to his kids on the tape, "We love daddy, we love daddy, we love daddy............"

I don't know if its the "Fuck You" attitude matched with the suffering that speaks to me, but for some reason I can't help but seem to empathize with Tommy.

Well its getting to be finals time again and I thought to myself as I drank my the fourth energy drink of the night studying at 1:00 AM in the morning when I have to be at work at 4:00 AM as I studied, "Man I wish somebody would have given my some good advice before I started college."

Seeing as I usually start threads late at night, bored, high on caffiene, and have to be at work soon I figured why the hell not? Hopefully I can help some poor moron who's going to attend college eventually, I know this would be better during the spring but sue me I'm bored, or atleast somebody will post something I haven't thought of yet. So here we go:

My piece of advice: Live on Campus

If you can't live on campus live in an apartment nearby, because the number one thing you do not want to do is live at home. I don't know how the fuck they talked me into living at home my first semester but its number one on my list of shit that got me fucked over in the end. I think it had alot to do with my parents buying a fucking Ford Excursion and four kayaks over the summer, thanks a shitload you guys, and the fact they weren't sure my grants would pay for everything.

Back to the point, live on campus. I'm telling you living on campus will be worth it if you have to take out a loan every year just to be able to do it.

      1) You miss out on cool shit. How lame is it when your sitting around with some people at school who are talking about going to a bar later that night and you have to be home by midnight so you don't get locked out? Very.

      2) The drive. It doesn't matter if you live within a few minutes of the school and have to commute less than your parents, the drive will piss you off. Most people spend at max maybe 3 hours in class everyday, which is not enough time to be driving back and forth for everyday for. Gas is probably whats going to cost the most, so your screwing yourself right there. I had to drive 40 minutes both ways, which cost me like a tank a week atleast.

      3) Naps. When I first got to college I hadn't taken a nap in years, now I take them just about everyday. Napping is a good way to make sure you pay attention in class and are alert when you go out partying at night. If you have no where to nap then your screwing yourself out of the two most important things in college.

*Tip: If you can't live on campus or live too far away to take naps at home find an alternative. For girls its pretty easy, just make friends with someone who lives on campus and you can crash there, for us guys its alot harder. I've known my best friends for going on 6 years now and I'm just now starting to sleep at thier places after nights where I'm in no condition to go home, there's no way I can sleep in a guys room I haven't known that long. So either A) get a girlfriend who lives on campus quick, B) find a building where nobodies likely to find you asleep like the library, or C) get a vehicle you can stretch out in. I had to alternate between sleeping in the library and my Dodge Dakota single cab, not fun.

      4) Your family will drive you nuts. It doesn't matter how much you love your family, if you can stand them during college then there is something seriously wrong with you. College is when you go out to find yourself in a way thats independent of your family and do stuff that they will never "ever" hear about ex jello wrestling with the twins from Roberts Hall. What makes it even worse is watching other people degrade into savages around you and have to make conversation at the dinner table. How the hell am I suppose to tell them what happened at school today when all I did was hear the story about a guy who broke his arm jumping of the belltower naked and so stoned he thought he could fly? You think having a roommate will be weird? Try having 4 that you can't drink, smoke, screw, or curse around.

Note: If you have no clue who either one of these guys are, don't post. Its perfectly fine to have a bias towards a certain athlete, but you can't have an opinion if you don't know who both are.

Two men that could be considered the most recognizable faces in thier respective sports, Boxing and the UFC, who in thier prime were considered the pinacle of human ability. Now some may say that they have slowed down or been surpassed, but I didn't think anybody would post about a Lenox Lewis vs Tito Ortiz match up.

I know it would never happen, but I would love to see this match up.

It could happen in either a boxing ring or the Octagon, I think that Ken would have an advantage in the Octagon and not be at that much of a disadvantage in a boxing ring. I know Ken would wear his fighting gloves, but since I don't know which he would choose Tyson could either be wearing fighting gloves or boxing gloves.

Now I'm going to admit up front that I belive Ken Shamrock eanred the title "The Worlds Most Dangerous Man" and could take on just about anybody in the world and give them a run for thier money. Some people would disagree with me, but thats my opinion.

      My prediction:
Ken would have to find some way to keep away from Tyson's jaw-shattering punches, but I'm confident that the second he got him on the ground or up against the cage he would go to town on his ass since Tyson would have no mat game to speak of. If Tyson were able to keep his feet or keep from locking up them I'm pretty sure he could pummel Ken to a either tap out or a knock out.

      Opinions?
