Seriously, last one of these was a year ago? DAAAAYYUUM.

Things continue pretty much as normal for me - meaning there is no normal at all, not anywhere. My son started school, my daughter started talking; what is this, all this change, and when will it settle down?

Not that I'm complaining really. It's all good fun. There are the ups and there are the downs, but we keep plugging away regardless, don't we? Well, I'm not sure what else I could do, anyway.

      TottWriter

Well, just a quick journal this time, because I'm off later, but yes, the wedding was yesterday, and it all went really well!

Finishing the dress became a rather more last-minute affair than I had hoped, with the final stitches to it being added at around eleven pm on Thursday night. (I spotted more bits that I probably should have done during the wedding, but eh, they didn't seem to matter!) Pictures will follow when I actually get hold of some - I was a bit too busy to take any myself.

Also, everyone there seemed to have a good time, which was nice!

    • Feeling a bit Crap.

Okay, a lot crap. I have an on-and-off sore throat and a temperature. Physically I'm not that bad, but when you're slightly off-colour, even the littlest bit of stress amplifies.

And children (multiple) are like stress squared. Whenever one does something the other copies, or gets annoyed, and they feed off each other quite a lot. It makes being ill somewhat...challenging.

I got up at 3.30 am today yesterday. Had a fairly long nap this afternoon, and it has completely buggered my internal clock.

So, now I am exhausted, but I've only just realised that it's half past tomorrow, because I only woke up from my nap at 6.45.

I am going to bed. Hopefully I will feel better in the morning. Oscar too - he's running a bit of a temperature. :(

Kinda vanished off the radar the last few days (was I even on it before? I'm not sure, actually...).

Unfortunately that was due to a family crisis for Will; his Dad's heart rate was shockingly low, and he ended up in hospital. Fortunately, they think it was just a case of his medication being incorrect, and he is out now, and seems okay, though obviously he's going to be having more tests. It did, however, mean five days staying at his parents house, which, while now geographically close, didn't really afford much time for apparently idle browsing of the internets.

Still. Back home, (and ohGod, we left it in such a mess!) back online. Well. You know, I don't actually live here, but you get the idea.

It does sound kind of fun, although also pretty time-demanding. Kind of like digital lego... not sure that I like that you can only have these square characters though. One of the things I love most about The Sims 2 is making custom clothing, skintones and characters so I can have a whole community with people who are elves and dryads and aliens and anthros and things like that. I think I will stick with modding the sims for now.

This is why I don't think simple bot-defence is enough. We must actively seek out spambots and detonate the computers on which they were written. Preferably while their programmers are within the blast radius.

Also, router problems suck. Evil thing. Threaten to give it a bit o' EMP if it doesn't get its act together. Coz, you know, threatening inanimate objects is the way to go.

The problem with EMPing the router is that... well, as the router isn't working now, I'd be threatening it with an effect it's already suffering. I guess that one of two things would happen - either nothing will change, or it will get better (because it can't get worse).

That said, it's definitely a lot of work to sort out an EMP. I'll stick to swearing at it repeated, which seems to have a similar effect for now.

(Oh, and I should have a replacement "in two or three working days")

Yeah, I had that trouble when it snowed earlier in the month, just couldn't work with it, but yesterday was quite a bright day so I guess it must have melted a little bit, just enough to stick.
Maybe if it snows more in the week, which the forecast seems to suggest, it'll be a better quality of snow for you.

I also find sometimes that writing it all down helps too. Writing is my therapy, and even if I don't immediately think of a solution, it helps to just type the problem out and have it sitting there in words. I think because I do that so often, when an opporunity comes up to explain to someone what the problem is so that they can help, it's much easier. Self analysis is mostly a good thing. You can't move forwards or plan to move forwards if you don't know where to go. And to know where to go you have to know whereyou don't want to go.

Do you practice free-writing? I keep a journal - not like the one here, but more something that I write as though it's for someone to read, but at the same time I don't think I could cope if anyone did. I've had bad, terrible days, and managed to get it written down in a way that instead gets it out of my head for a little peace...

... but it's interesting to read back, too. I look at some things I've written and wonder where the words came from. Sometimes there's this feeling of "how did I know that?", or "how long have I actually felt that way?", or simply "where did that thought come from?". The feeling that the pen is leading the way, and the thoughts that come are free-flowing...

... and you wonder if you ramble? No, no you don't... I think I'll be the guilty one of that here...

    • MineIsAnEvil

      Heh.

Yeah, I didn't think I would ever be able to write it either.

But luckily the first 3,000 is based very closely on an assignment I did at the start of the year (mostly background information), and results really write themselves (just "for this bit we saw blah, for that part we saw blah). The difficult part is the discussion. Having to combine the results we found with those already published in the literature. I spent literally weeks in front of the computer staring, trying to work out how to write it. It is quite disheartening sitting in front of a computer all day, only to get a sentence or two, or some dot points.

Luckily enough I have just today actually managed to get a large chunk of it done. Now it is mostly just small changes to make, formatting it properly etc.

Which is lucky, seeing as it is due next Monday!

I personally think you would be crazy to commit to the full 50K. Two small children, and a partner to spend time with. I am bad enough just with the husband. I can't imagine doing something like that with 2 small kids! But I am sure you can get a shorter one done, and then you will feel like you have achieved you goals.10 or 20K is a more than reasonable goal still! =)

Congratulations! And embrace the whole silly gown thing. It's not often that a person can get away with that sort of thing in public, after all. Almost makes me wish I'd gone to Uni myself.

You never went? I am honestly surprised to hear that. I have never had doubt your an intelligent person, and more than capable of university, but more than that I honestly would have sworn you'd studied, and I have no idea why. Whether it is just the way you write, or view the world, or... I don't know, just me making assumptions I suppose. But I was genuinely surprised to read that.

Yeah. We have a pretty good healthcare system here too. I used to get free dental stuff. But since getting married, Jarrad earns just a little too much for us to be eligible. Which is annoying. But oh well, can't do anything about it.

Personal healthcare is expensive, hence the reason we haven't bothered to get it yet. Jarrad pays a tax levy thing which covers our medicare, which I think gets us some money back when we go to the doctor, but not much. and I am not sure if it covers dental at all. I guess the government doesn't think our teeth are as important as the rest of our bodies! =P

I've been told in the past that skipping a tablet, then taking one, then skipping one etc is a good way to try and wean yourself off them... hence I wondered what would happen if I tried it this time (as I am considerably better than I was last year, except the problem is my Nan/Mum think that now I'm better I can stop the meds and go back to normal - whilst I think it's the meds that are keeping me normal XD )

Fortunately my tablets aren't exceptionally important, so it does me little/no harm to skip/take a tablet late. I'm lucky in that respect

And you saying that reminded me of when I asked my Mum when midwives up here like to see their patients - she said, jokingly, "the morning after" as it's literally as soon as you know you're pregnant up here, as opposed to your 10 weeks or so down there :P

Naturally, I immediately imagined midwives sitting in the corner of people's bedrooms with a clipboard, stopwatch at the ready... maybe they're not that eager, but the image is a funny one :P

    • FJewel

Not really; still as unfocused as ever XD I tried skipping a few of my tablets the past week and this happens, so lesson being learnt is not to skip tablets o.o

I think that in this case they just wanted to avoid getting sued by the original author.

Parts of it seems a bit scary for the young age-group... in fact I'm kind of hoping Hiccup isn't swallowed in the movie. That kind of stuff still freaks me out (I have issues) and it looks a lot worse when you see it on-screen in 3D than if it's described in a book...

    • DocRossim

    • DocRossim

I haven't actually read the books, I think I might wait until after I've seen the film to read them if I do, save it spoiling the film, which looks awesome.

    • DocRossim

That's odd about you not being able to transfer over your saved games... I was able to transfer most of my stuff from XP to Vista... or at least the stuff I didn't lost in my system crash or when I lost a bunch of stuff because my old PC couldn't handle the Seasons expansion.

Are the files still on his computer? you might be able to put them on an external drive and then put them in the right folder in Vista.

Yeah its interesting, I have seen snow maybe 3 times in my life, once when I went on Ski camp (and snowboarded ironically) once at the school my parents teach at (its higher above sea level than were we actually live so its much more likely to see snow) and once when I was really young in the backyard. but it was more like slate...

3 hours train from Birmingham Snow Hill... plus 30 mins (at least, cause it's rush hour) from my station to Snow Hill. Then back again... after a day of wandering around galleries looking at "art" (I have a strong dislike for modern "art" so taking me to that Tate Modern is like an Atheist in an RE lesson).

And graphics at the moment is just research - no artistic ability required :P

Also helps that I'm old enough to sign my own consent forms now... so I just say due to that, I can't afford the £20 for the trip as my parents refuse to pay any more. That and that day I may also miraculously fall ill. Like I'm going to in about 2 weeks when we have to do a "presentation on Christmas"... refusing the do the pointless "work" in tutorial is driving my tutor a bit insane I think.

As for the tattoo issue, it's as much a question of whether my art would be suitable and desireable as a tattoo as whether I should have one. I'm sure I could work out a way of not having one if I really wanted to. Personally though, I have concidered getting one several times, I just never actually decided to. I guess I'm pretty unoppinionated about having one.

There are a few up here that don't have kids but the actual carers post-natal (is that the right way round?) tend to have had kids themselves. And although it seems up here there is a dogged approach to "You must breastfeed! Must must must! The bottle is eeeeevil!" most midwives will tell you to do what you want :P

Subject to question though; are you going to have the swine flu jab? Cause there are two playing courts for this and everyone's standing on different sides. XD
