After 11 years I've changed my username. Midgetkicker seemed funny when I was in my late teens/early 20s, but now that I'm 32 it felt like time for something a little more appropriate. Maybe someday when I'm feeling saucy I'll change my profile pic too! ;-)

I'm feeling nostalgic tonight so I thought I'd clean up my RvB profile, check out what everyone has been up to on my friends list, and read through a few old journals. In my last two journals I was talking about going to the gym more than once every few months and crying over some girl. ... I guess I've come a long way since then. I'm now at an amazing fitness level and I don't really know who it was I was all butt hurt over. These days I rock climb, hike, travel, bike, date, and go on all sorts of other adventures. I suppose I should try to write something more exciting for when I come back three years from now and read through my journals again. .... but then again I'm tired and I need to study. My next journal will be more entertaining, promise.

What a productive day. I worked a full 8+ hour day, made a huge dinner for myself (my roommate wasn't around to make sure I had someone to give my extra food to), cleaned the house a little, started reformatting a laptop for a guy who works at the deli in the building where I work, went for a jog, and now I'm updating a journal. Yay! .... oh, and in the process of writing this a co-worker Japan e-mailed me so I helped him out. I'm pretty excited about going for a jog tonight, that makes two nights in a row I've done some sort of exercise. Last night I went to the gym and did some running and a couple machines. Turns out I'm not in as bad of shape as I thought I was, but still not the best. But yeah, until yesterday I hadn't been to the gym in a couple months. I've been trying to motivate myself to go but it just hasn't been happening, but I've decided that since I normally don't get to bed until late anyway and my gym is open 24 hours it wouldn't hurt to work out at night when I should be sleeping. I usually come home, eat, play some Left 4 Dead then BS with my roommate for a couple hours so I figure I can squeeze in some gym time. Other than wanting to get into shape to be more healthy and confident in general I am also getting ready to go back to Washington next month to celebrate my birthday and there is a chance I'm going to see some old flames so I want to look my best to remind them what they are missing. haha I doubt any of them will notice, but it'll make me feel better!
Other than that I'm doing well. I went shooting last weekend with some friends then hung out by my pool and worked on odd things around the house most of the rest of the weekend. Not such a bad life if you ask me!
Welp, it's past midnight now, I suppose it's time to wind down and get some sleep.

I need to start this Journal up again.... other than this post I probably wont anytime soon though. I'm not interested in going to sleep tonight though so here I am.
Today was a bad day, I got the "let's be friends" text from a REALLY awesome person. Tomorrow wont be a good day either, but much like a kidney stone everything passes eventually and I'll be back to business as usual. Tonight I'm going to keep listening to sad country music, try not to polish off this bottle of wine, and clean my new house while I think about lots of depressing things because I think I deserve to feel sorry for myself just a little, but I'll hate myself if I stay this emo for too long so I'll be sure to get over it soon.

for a special occasion. I had like fifty mod points that I'd saved up. It took me like five years to save those up. If you do the math that's an average of ten a year! Oh well. Easy come, easy go.
In other news I took the job in Phoenix. If you look at my profile you'll see I've already changed my location. :-) I'm soooo nervous about the move. It was a really tough decision. I figure if I don't like it down there or my new job isn't all it's cracked up to be I can always just move back.
I've rented a trailer to haul my motorcycle behind my 4runner, I'm a little peeved about how expensive it was. If I had a little extra cash I'd just buy a small trailer and then sell it when I got down there. It'd be a LOT cheaper that way.
I'm not bringing a lot of stuff. I'm going to be staying at my buddies house for the first couple months and he's got all of the furniture and stuff that I need. I'm hoping to buy a house in four months if everything works out down there, I'll bring all the rest of my crap down with my Chevy at that time.
Houses are SOOO friggin cheap. I can get a fairly new house down there with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for around 130,000. I was approved for $125,000 a few months ago, and I'm going to be making about two dollars more an hour so I should be able to get into a nice place. They also have a special program where if you can raise 3% they will pay an additional 6% of the down payment. That means if I can come up with four grand they will pay over six grand on a $130,000 house and I'll only owe about $114,000. That'd be pretty friggin sweet.
So yeah, that's what's going on in my life right now. I'm uprooting my life and trying to see where things take me.

I was just offered a job on Phoenix AZ. I would be the lead (and right now the only) Desktop Support Technician for a company called Apriva. They support Credit Card terminals, you've probably swiped your Debit card through a thousand of the Veriphone processing machines that they support.
Right now I make 15 an hour which comes out to around 28,800 a year. I work a lot of overtime so before taxes I am actually probably making 30,000. If I take this job I'll be making 31,000 salary which, assuming I don't work over 40 a week) is about 16.15 an hour. I'd probably have to be on call a lot since it's a 24 hour a day tech center, but that shouldn't be bad. The best part of the job would be never having to make phone tech support calls, and never having to make sales calls. Desktop support means having to fix, maintain, and upgrade the computers, server, and network within the company only. The company is two floors of an office building so that shouldn't be anything extremely hard. It's basically the same thing I did during my internship at the rose garden, but I'd be the guy in charge.
The bad part about the job is it's in Phoenix. I've lived in Phoenix before, I can handle the heat and the desert, and all that. I just don't know if I'm a big fan of leaving the PacNW. I love the grass, the mountains, the real trees, the snow, everything. Also, I'll be pretty far from my family. I've been away from them before, but that was when I was 18 and tired of seeing them all of the time. Now I'm a little older and wiser.
Anyway, I told them I would decide by Monday what I wanted to do. It's a pretty hard decision, I've got a lot to think about. I was going to put up a Poll to see what everyone thought about the job offer, but I'd rather people comment so I can read what people have to say.
I'll leave you with a comic about tech support. (Click to enlarge)

I've been meaning to make a Journal for like two weeks now, but I've been hella busy. Microblogging using twitter also makes it so I don't update this Journal as much as I'd like. Anyway, this is probably going to be a long one that just has updates on what I've been doing and who I'm dating.
So, I've been on Vacation for the last week or so, that's why I haven't updated or checked other people's stuff. I have a ton of alerts to go through and I'll probably try to get to all of them.
My vacation was awesome! I spent a couple days in Phoenix with my buddy Danny, then a couple days in Twenty Nine Palms, CA with my sister and brother-in-law. While I was in Phoenix I went to my first pro baseball game and watched the Diamondbacks beat the Rockies. We went shooting out in the desert. We had a small LAN party and played some Starcraft and GTA2, old school games rock! I met up with some of my old roommates ( I lived in Phoenix for a year after I graduated high school), they seemed to be doing really well, they had all kicked the bugger sugar. Then in Twenty Nine Palms I got to go on the Marine base and see all the things that go boom, I also got to see a crazy Asian lady sing karaoke at a barber shop while my brother-in-law got his hair cut. That was quite a sight.
While I was in Phoenix my buddy surprised me with a job interview. I rocked the interview now I've got to decide if I want to live in the desert again. The job is doing tech support for a company that is growing pretty rapidly. Danny did tech support there for a year and now he's a programmer for them. That's what I really want to do, but it's slow going for me since I don't have a degree. I don't know, decisions decisions.
Now I'm back in the PacNW. I'm glad to be home, but I've got a lot of stuff to do. Last night a gaming friend flew in and crashed at my place. He's here from Nebraska or something like that. He's mostly in town for the huge LAN party next weekend, but he's also here for part of his internship with Kiewit.
I was going to write another long piece about the girl I'm "dating" but there isn't really that much to tell yet. We've hung out twice and that's about it. She seems nice, but she is totally a city girl. She is almost three years older then me and has two children. I'm not sure if I'm going to let things progress with us because I'm not interested in having another horrible relationship like the last two where I stick with them even though I'm unhappy. I'm taking things super slow right now. She's out of town till Monday so I can't hang out with her again until sometime next week. ... She lives in Tualatin which is a little bit of a drive too which sucks. If I keep seeing her I'll have to lend her a helmet so when I pick her up we can ride my motorcycle (she doesn't have a car right now). ... have I ever mentioned that I hate dating?
Anyway, I've got to get to work. I'll update more later probably.
Comic for the day is about dating.

I went for a swim this morning. I've been meaning to get back into lap swimming for a while now, but I haven't been able to get my sleep schedule in line. The last couple days though I've been getting to bed very early and this morning I woke up at six with no alarms or anything. Since I was feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed I decided to get everything together and go for a swim.
I only swam for fifteen or twenty minutes, but it was enough for my first day back in the water so I didn't want to push myself too hard. I wasn't as out of shape as I thought I was, but I've got a ways to go to get where I want to be.
I'm not really sure what it's like in other parts of the country, but here in the PacNW we are still having winter weather. All week it's been pouring and hailing out. It looks like we have another month and a half or more before spring and summer really start to get going, which is good since I'm not as in shape as I'd like to be. Last time I was swimming on a regular basis I was going twice a week for around half an hour at a time. After a month I was seeing improvements and after two months I was pretty friggin toned and almost too skinny. I'm going to try and go more then twice a week so I can expedite the process a little. I should be lookin pretty good for my trip to Phoenix in a month, and ready to hit the lake in June and July when summer finally gets here.
I've got to get some breakfast food soon though. I swam today on an empty stomach and couldn't get anything to eat right away afterwards. I think I'm going to grab some eggs tonight so I can have a proper breakfast in the mornings. I haven't been eating enough anyway, time to balance everything out so I can stay healthy!
Hope everyone is doing well!

Bambi reference anyone?
This is a friggin long Journal. If you don't care about what Twitter is, but you wanna know about the awesome stuff I did this weekend skip to <#endtwitter>
So, I signed up for Twitter yesterday. The story of a Berkley student getting out of a lot of Trouble in Egypt sort of moved me to do it. I'm constantly in fear of getting arrested, a fear that stems from being harassed by the police when I was younger...... and the fact that I've been arrested twice for B.S. reasons.
Anyway, for anyone who doesn't know Twitter is a place where people can sort of update each other more frequently. To me it seems like sort of having a mini blog. Normally I'd say Balls to that because I already keep a journal here, but the hook is you can update it from text messaging and each update is less then 140 characters.
The idea behind the service is if you have friends or co-workers that you need to update you can easily do so. If you are a party person or a bar hopper you can shoot a text to your twitter page letting everyone who "follows" you know what bar you are going to be at that night. Another part of the service is you can receive text updates for people you follow. Say you always party with Steve and you both have twitter. All Steve has to do is update his twitter either by text, web, or instant messenger that he is going to be at Carol's house for a party at ten and if you have the setting turned on Twitter will send your phone a text with that update in it.
This can be used for more then just partying. I can see this working well for business people who want to keep everyone updated on the status of their projects or accounts and stuff like that. Or, maybe you're a nerd like me? Every once in a while I jump on Vent and want to play a little DOTA with my clan, but no one is online. I don't have very many of their phone numbers or anything like that so I'd just send a message to twitter from my computer that says, "I'm lookin to play some DOTA, I'll probably play a pub game or two until people get online". ..... Of course the people I play with know I suck at DOTA so they probably wouldn't stop whatever they are doing to hang with me.
Anyway, so you get the idea. behind twitter.
I don't know how well it will work for me, I'm just sort of testing it out to see if I like it. If I start raping my text messaging plan because of updates I'll probably stop using it. Or if I just don't seem to be updating with interesting stuff. I figure on the weekends though I do some pretty crazy things that I usually don't have time to Journal. I just don't want to start a pattern like this:
Monday : Work sucks, I had a ham sandwich for lunch.
Tuesday: Work sucks, I had a ham sandwich for lunch.
Wednesday: Work sucks, the boss took me out to Mexican food though
Thursday: Work sucks, I had a ham sandwich for lunch.
Friday: Work Sucks. playing rock band at Bill's tonight.
Saturday: Worked on the Dodge/motorcycle with Bill.
Sunday: Hung out with (insert name of random ex that I shouldn't hang out with).
I don't want that to be the pattern from week to week.
Also, they make little badges you can put on your other social sights. I have one on my MySpace right now. It is just a little box that displays the last thing I twittered. It's pretty cool, but I don't know if I like it up there. Sometimes I have some pretty .... socially unacceptable ideas that I'll probably end up twittering and I don't know if I should show them to people who haven't found me on twitter and clicked the follow button indicating that they actually WANT to read what I have to say. No one should be forced to pay attention to my madness. I wanted to put one of those boxes on this page, but you have to be able to insert flash or Java and I'm pretty sure that's not happenin here.
So yeah. If Twitter sounds interesting to you go make an account and follow me. I'll see I have more followers and follow you. Lets see if this service is actually useful/fun.
So yesterday a bunch of my buddies and I went down to Spirit Mountain Casino in Oregon. We were there from about 3 o'clock to 10 o'clock. Yeah, seven hours. I was down for a while, then up, then down, but when we stopped for dinner I had been rocking the roulette table for a while and I was up around $130 (even after about $100 loosing streek). Dinner was thirty bucks (totally worth it!) and after we ate we went out gambling again. I was starting to get pretty tired and I wasn't feeling the tables as much so I lost that hundred in an hour or two and stopped. I started the night with a little less then a hundred bucks and I left with a hundred dollar bill in my pocket, not a bad night. Basically, I was entertained for eight hours, had to buy two drinks ($14.00 total) and burger king for my and my ride ($10). I spent $24 total on eight hours of entertainment, that's better then going to the movies. One of my buddies got friggin lucky as hell on a high stakes slot machine and walked out with a little less then a grand profit (would have been more but he lost the rest of the night). Everyone else lost between $140 and $500.
... So yeah, not a bad weekend and it's not even over yet. Hope everyone else had a good time!!!
I think today's comic fits all of this social networking mumbo jumbo. This is the last time I post a comic from the archives of Dieselsweeties though, they are horribly unorganized. Anyway, click to enlarge.
