Seriously. Thank YOU. Without you, and your constant support, RT Movie Nights would not have gotten this far; I mean, have you ever noticed how many groups there are on this website? Hundreds. Most of those haven't even been update since they were created; in short, most fail. RTMN could have suffered the same fate, I'm sure, but it's thanks to each and everyone of you that we have reached this landmark moment: the 1st Anniversary of RT Movie Nights!

It all started exactly one year ago when everyone got together in a thread, started by Zak (who created the group), and watched "The Big Lebowski" together; in short it was a success, but there were some issues. At the time people would be left to their own devices upon both acquiring the movie and then everyone following along at the same time frame while posting in a thread. Maybe not the best way to go about it, but it worked; more or less.

That's when I stepped in and suggested to Zak the idea of streaming the movies so, that way, everyone could be on the same page; and, if they don't own the movie, they can still watch that way as well. Need less to say, it was a success and we've been streaming the movies over on RTMN ever since; but, I would be amiss if I didn't thank those that also helped in the process of streaming over the past year for RTMN.

Therefore, I want to give a huge THANK YOU to the following people: Alex, Kyle, Jackie and John.

Also, I want to give a very special THANK YOU to Dan, who really helped us out during the group-hack that happened last year during RvBTO; remember that? Something like that amazes me, really, when I think about it, I mean, a lot has really happened in a year since this group began and we have survived to this day. Group Hacks? Psh! Down time? We came back. Mods giving us a hard time? Whatever. Remember the website? The mailing list? No matter what was thrown in our way over the past year we still remain to this day!

Why? Well, at least for me, it has to do with two things. First off, I love movies. I really do. Its one of the main reasons I joined this group in the first place. Of course, while in the beginning of RTMN we tended to watch what would be considered "good" movies, these days we tend to watch what most would consider "bad" movies; which I personally find to be for the better. There is nothing like watching a really bad movie with some really awesome friends; and that is the second reason this group has been so successful in my eyes, and why it means so much to me.

I have met so many awesome people through this group. I have formed new friendships, strengthened old ones and created memories that will last a lifetime. Seriously, this group is one of the things that helps me get through the week. No matter how much hell I've gone through, be it from work or life in general, knowing that there is one day out of the week where I can just sit back, relax and watch a bad movie with good friends makes me smile; in short: I FUCKING LOVE YOU GUYS! smiley12.gif<33

Here is to another year, and hopefully even more to come, for RT Movie Nights:

    • A Straight Edged Solution

As someone that follows a straight edge lifestyle, being one that has never (nor ever will) drink alcohol, I often find that I do miss out on certain aspects of social gatherings. One such example, and the reason for this journal, is an event that happens at RvBTO known only as "Irish Carbombs". It truly was a sight to behold last year as, seemingly, a hundred people all drank one of these concoctions all at the same time from their very own glasses.

It's one thing to watch, sure, but wouldn't it be another thing to be apart of it; but, without alcohol? Is that possible? Well, there are such things are "Tofurkeys", and "Veggieburgers" and such, so why not? Then again, as I thought about it, what would a non-alcoholic Irish Carbomb consist of and how would you make it like a real one?

That's when I thought of one of my good friends, another straight edge, who often orders Shirley Temples whenever my other friends order alcoholic beverages; mostly to be funny, but also because he actually enjoys them. Most modern mixes of Shirley Temples are just lemon-lime soda mixed with grenadine syrup; two simple ingredients. That's when it hit me.

Why not put the grenadine syrup in the small glass, plop it into the bigger glass filled with the lemon-lime soda and BAM! You've got your non-alcoholic Irish Carbomb! Well, naturally, I had to put this to the test. So, after I left work tonight I picked up a two liter of 7-Up, a bottle of grenadine and a package of little shot glasses. All of which are conveniently, and ironically, located in the aisle wherein all the soda/water/gatorade is located; said shot glasses are also located near the Jell-O mix and the drink aisle also is where you can find packages of ping pong balls... stay classy, work.

I should probably mention that, in Massachusetts, grocery stores are not legally able to sell alcohol; which is always funny when out of state customers come in and ask about where we keep it and I usually have to then give them directions to the nearest liquor store.

So, yeah, I gathered all the ingredients and... well, what's the verdict?

      TravieYak4c15944f6c72b.jpg

Surprisingly, it's actually good! Like really, really good! Now, what do I call it?

Well, I gave it some serious thought and I came up with: "GOOD SHIP LOLLIPOP".

Why? It's based off a Shirley Temple, one of her most famous songs was "On the Good Ship Lollipop", a (Irish)Car(bomb) and a (Good)Ship(Lollipop) are two modes of transportation, plus it's a GOODy-two shoes drink; get it?

Eh, I like it. Now, the real trick will be to see if the bartenders at the Ram in the Rye will make this for me...

"The boy doesn't always know. At some point, the boy then becomes an adult and learns
what he was able to become. Joy and sadness will always accompany this. He is confronted with a
choice. When this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an
adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy. The boy is now a man. Only one thing can be said.
A boy has a right to dream. But those endless possibilities are stretched out before him. We must
remember, all men were once boys."

Got some sweet things in the mail today, which is awesome because work sucked an there ain't nothing like coming home to a few pieces of mail from friends just waiting for you to open them! Seriously, I like getting mail. *hint*hint*

Thanks to Sarah for sending me an awesome letter and an origami Tiger and Seahorse! I don't know how to origami but I do know how to write letters. So, expect a reply sometime soon... smiley0.gif

Also thanks to Paul for sending me a copy of "Turkish Star Wars", a really bad movie that Ive been trying to get a copy of for quite some time to add to my collection; look for it on a future edition of RTMN!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go continue work on a super secret project that may or may not have anything to do with a certain anniversary of a particular group that's coming up next week... *cough* smiley7.gif
