    • Trip to Rooster Teeth Productions

*A note that I would like to make before I start off, I am usually someone who is totally under control and was completely calm before I approached the door...*

So today I made a trip to Austin, which was like not that far away, for the main reason of touring the Rooster Teeth Studio. After a long and grueling...3 hour drive...my friend and I arrived at Rooster Teeth Productions, very nervous because we weren't sure if they would even let us tour the Studio. I wore my awesome Codex shirt since none of my RT shirts were clean. I probably should've thought this through ahead of time....

We get up to the door after getting our stuff ready, we knock, and Kara answers the door. Now mind you, I am already just excited to see the studio, now I get to meet my first RT staffer. I didn't want to make a bad impression, so when she helps us get our DVDs ready(by way of taking the sleeves out), my hands were shaking like they were experiencing an earth quake.

So...thankfully when we got to see the Achievement Hunter office and the tech office, I was able to shake off the nervousness and I got to meet Geoff, Ray, and Michael (awesome dudes by the way)!

Then we went through the various studio areas, which by the way, all the tour videos on youtube do not do any real justice to how awesome this studio was. The top of the stairs was so cool and being able to see the work stations up close, it made me really want my own production studio. My friend's favorite part was probably the HUGE FREAKING Green Screen that they have. Once again, the tour videos do absolutely no justice to how big that screen is. The motion capture area was pretty sweet to see, only a few of the animators were there, but that's okay. I am sure that they are probably busy busy for season 10! :D

Then at the end of the tour, Kara took a picture of my friend and I in front of the studio. Terrific way to end a tour! That studio was amazing, the people there are really awesome, and to think that Rooster Teeth started out in Burnie's spare bedroom...

I released Episode 3 this last week and now I have the commentary recorded for release on friday. :D

I really can't wait to get to episode 4, since it's one of my favorite episodes.

Episode 3 can be viewed here. So yeah, I am hard at work...work, work, work.

Well I have been hard at work on Episode 4, it's a really hard episode, but I am sure that I can get it done in time...especially since I am so far ahead now. I have all the episodes up to 8 filmed and ready to be edited, so I am well off! I can't wait for this week to reveal episode 3, it's probably my favorite episode so far. :)

Okay this time I PROMISE I will start posting journals more frequently again, it's just been so busy and school...and I am just making up excuses. :(

So since my last journal I have uploaded Episode 1 and Episode 2 of my series! :D

I am starting to hit a small stride, as I am actually on episode 5. I feel like it's become a lot easier for me to edit the episodes and what not. I find it a whole lot more fun now too since I feel like I really know what I am doing. It might sound like I am bragging, but I am fairly proud of myself for trying to do a weekly series...even if each episode is posted every other week and a commentary during the off week. But no matter, I am feeling great about this!

I really can't wait to show off the next couple of episodes. They were the hardest to edit, but a LOT of fun at the same time. Working with my voice actors has been a wonderful experience. They are already all wrapped and now they just send me extra voices if needed.

    • Season 9 thoughts and After-thoughts

At the beginning of the season I thought it was a really cool start to a season, but then later in the season it got a little bland. It was around episode Episode 7, but then was brought back into being good about episode 9. Since then it was a pretty good season and watching all the episodes in movie form really shows off everything. Personally, my favorite episodes were 16, 19, and 20. I was pretty impressed by the story-telling in this season, even though the pacing was fairly slow. I don't expect Reconstruction pacing, but this honestly felt like recreation pacing. I can't really complain about it, since being a filmmaker myself I understand the want/need to tell the story that I would want to tell.

Watching season 1 and then season 9 is so weird. The writing has changed so much and so has the tone. The series was basically a sitcom and now it's a movie. I really like this format better and am in fact shaping my series into movie form. It's a lot neater feeling and easier to write to.

But yeah, the end of Season 9 pretty much blew my mind, although it really fits well into the show. It makes sense that Carolina would be back and wanting revenge.

There's really only one thing that I can really hope for season 10 is that The Director isn't killed off. Sure he's a jerk, ruined many many lives, started a worthless war(the blue vs red battles), and just did all around terrible things....but honestly, he's the most redeemable character in the entire series. It would be a shame for such a wonderfully crafted character to be killed off. Even if he disappears into the background, it would be fine. He can go to jail, but I would love an Epsilon/Director face to face encounter. Maybe Epsilon could share stories about Tex and the blood gulch crew? I dunno, I am not the writer here. :)

And it would be a shame if I didn't mention how awesome the music was this season, Jeff out did himself this time around. I can't wait for a full soundtrack! smiley12.gif

I can't believe that....okay I can totally believe that I forgot about posting on here. I am quite lazy. As an update on my series, I should have 4 episodes finished this week. Next week is going to be fun, as I am editing a REALLY big episode. I am quite proud of how I am doing with my progress as a film maker. :D

Otherwise, I am doing awesome. smiley13.gif

When I edit something and then come back to it after a few days, boy do I notice a LOT of problems. I just went through a 12 hour editing splurge to fix my episode 1 into passable quality. I cut out like half of it, so now its 6 minutes.

I say passable only because I know that my work isn't like Iron Man or The Dark Knight, but I believe that it at least hits where I want it to for this time. As my series progresses, I will get better/faster at editing. Used to it would take weeks for me to edit this kind of video, but now I can do it all in a day. I am hoping that as my episodes progress this day will turn into just a few hours. Most of my episodes are around 4-6 minutes long.

It's weird to think that 6 minutes is a long video considering how much television and how many movies that I watch. Youtube and its viewers are weird. I do like the fact that because of the fact that videos are short, there really isn't competition per-say. I mean I can watch an episode of Red vs Blue, Arby 'n' the chief, and something else and it's only been about 45 at the most minutes. If I watch a movie, that's about 2 or so hours of my time taken up.

Anyways, I think that I finally have episode 1 wrapped...onto episode 2! Still hoping that M.com accepts my series, but we'll see. I only sent them an email a few days ago and I am told to give them a month...so still crossing my fingers! :D

    • Episode 1 Update

      Trumpetman09

Okay so I said that I might be posting up updates, so here goes!

I submitted my series' Promo episode to Machinima.com earlier this week. I've been told by other Machinima.com directors that it could take up to a month before they ever get back to me. I am hopeful that they will accept my series, although I know that they get a TON of submissions everyday...so who knows.

I think that episode 1 is a pretty solid episode and so I think that people might enjoy it. It's mostly just an introduction of the three main characters, so it's a lot more dialogue than anything else. As it stands, the episode is at 12 minutes long. I might need to cut this down, since most viewers don't sit and watch things that are longer than 5 minutes. I've tried to keep myself at that length, but I have a story that I really want to tell to its fullest.

Since I am sticking with a comedy/drama series, I was told that I need to expect a lot of "this is a rip of of Red vs Blue". I'll live, as long as anyone wants to see it and I want to create it, I will continue.

My philosophy as a filmmaker is that I want to not only entertain my audience, but myself as well. I create films that I would want to see and then I post them up and maybe others will want to see them as well.

Well I think that's probably a good update. Thanks to anyone who has read this all the way through.

Oh and if anyone has about 2 minutes to spare, I posted up the promo to my youtube channel.

    • The trend

      Trumpetman09

It feels like the trend for me is to post a journal every 8 months....maybe one day I will have a good thought to put down. I might be using my journal to post updates on The Adventures Saga, my machinima series, and so that could be useful. Seeing as though nobody actually follows me...or really ever sees me on the forums...or even realizes that I might every...8 months...post a journal, I just don't know how useful that will be. Well, that's all I can think of right now. Maybe in about 8 months I will post up another journal. :D

Yep, it's rare to have a video producer give SOOO much freedom, so I consider myself very very lucky! Thanks again for the kind words!

I dont really write much down except for rare times when I need to. the music is mostly sequenced, so it's not impossible to get from there to good notation, but its definitely a project in and of itself.

I'm hopeful that there will be a large format performance of the RvB soundtrack music sometime in the future, and if that happens, everything will get arranged more properly and notated, printed, all that. If that happens, I'm more than happy to give copies to anyone who would like it :)
