Well, I'm back after awhile of being off, and rather than bounce around to everyone's journals, I'll just respond to the general action I've seen around.

First off, what happened to the site, mucho grande change, not that I care, I don't really use the site for much of anything aside from conversing with the small group of people that I actually care to converse with.

Frostitute is a moderator, FTW?! I never thought someone I was friends with would become a mod. Makes it a bit tougher to complain about the mods, now if I do, I have to put an exception in.

With that being said, my TTT (time travel thread) brothers would probably all agree, and I know that at least a couple of them do, that the moderators are Nazi's (except Frostitute). They leave a bunch of crap open that tend to have a pretty exclusive crowd, as anytime someone new tries to jump in, everyone in the thread's crew attacks them (BAR's) and shut a topic that has somewhat similar circumstances (close group of individuals personally moderating it, yet except new members more easily and still discuss intelligent, or at the very least non-random interesting subject material). I've grown more apathetic, less interested in politics, and more conservative in recent times, but I do notice a parallel between the moderators (minus Frostitute) and the police system (at least in the US). Those in power, those close to those in power, those who appear well-off, basically anyone who isn't on the lower end of society, politically, financially, or in popularity are given higher rights than those who are on the lower end.

To Jam, you watched your first Bond movie ever and you're 21? What the hell man? Maybe it's my American ignorance, but you're British! I would've thought that Bond would've been a national treasure over there, mandatory in preschool or some shit.

Stop has been watching some good television. Fat Guy and Tim and Eric, while incredibly bizarre, are two great shows that adult swim has added to their lineup. Fat Guy's low production value gives it a very old school look, reminiscent of the 80's. Tim and Eric's genius comes the Kaufman-esque humor that is perfectly accented with the public access style of filming. The newest bit added to AS's lineup is Superjail, if not for the humor for the sheer psychedelic imagery.

Hit, I've told you the best song in the universe exists dozens of time, you just don't listen.

That's all for tonight, I'll try to make it on more often, but as always, no gaurantees.

we might all be immune to diseases. As the BBC News points out, it turns out that alligators and crocodiles have a much tougher immune system than we do, so tough, that it has been shown to kill off even HIV. If scientists can figure out a way to isolate the proteins, in alligators' white blood cells, we might be able to use them to fight diseases such as AIDS.

Edit: On another note, some Florida teens think that drinking a cap of bleach will prevent HIV. It kind of makes sense, you drink the bleach, you die, you can't get AIDS!

To go to both 10KLF and Lollapalooza this year. It's a lot of money, but damnit, I like both of them.

10KLF is a smaller festival with Flaming Lips and George Clinton and the P-Funk playing there. It's in my home state, so it's near by and just a good time, plus it's cheaper than most festivals.

But then, there's Lollapalooza's killer lineup featuring Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails. This alone makes it worth going to, not to mention Flogging Molly, Raconteurs, Louis XIV, Broken Social Scene, and The Black Keys, plus many other kick ass acts. This is just too good to pass up, and it's within a reasonable driving distance.

Fucking two music festivals in two weeks, I'm gonna be dead tired after that, but oh so happy.

My attention was brought to an interview of Blag Dahlia of The Dwarves, an entertaining punk band whose songs often revolve around sexual experimentation and troubles (not trouble with love, mind you, but with sex i.e. not getting any). As I said, very entertaining music. Anyway, The Dwarves apparently played at last year's Reading Festival, and this site was brought to my attention by jam's journal entry. The part of the interview that caught my eye the most was in regards to downloading.

So you’re happy for people to go out and download Dwarves songs?

BD: Sure. I have no problem with downloading; I think it’s a good thing. The music industry was never able to a. figure out how to exploit it, and more importantly, b. the music industry doesn’t pay artists fairly, so nobody feels like they’re ripping off artists when they’re downloading, they know they’re ripping off record companies, and nobody feels sorry for the guys in Metallica and R.E.M. either.

It comes down to â€" if downloading is what it takes to bring down the bullshit house of cards of the music industry then fair enough, bring it down!

Fuckin' right. I love to here musicians fight back against those who despise downloading. These are guys who are getting hurt standing on the grounds that they are, but still stand their simply because they feel that people have the right to download. Granted, this is the kind of response you'd expect from someone in a punk band, but it doesn't make it any less awesome.

How did No Country for Old Men get the Oscar for best picture of the year over There Will Be Blood? I watched No Country for Old Men this week, and it was good, but it was by no means the masterpiece that There Will Be Blood was.

I do agree that Bardem deserved the supporting actor award over Dano. Dano was great, but Bardem invoked a fear into the viewers. He was genuinely terrifying, not as much as Day-Lewis, but close.

That's about it, other than this - Waffles > Pancakes.

    • Why is it . . .

      TuniLives

. . . that when I stay up all night, I still can't get to sleep until 3 in the morning. I'm super fucking tired, yet the moment I lay down, I have just enough energy to prevent me from falling asleep. What's worse is, when I need to stay up to do homework, my body doesn't work in the same way. Instead, it decides that it's tired and it doesn't care if I want to go to sleep or not, it does everything in its power to knock me down and out.

Sometimes, I hate how the body and mind work.

Edit: It sucks staying up all night finishing three assignments only to find that none of them are really due.

Also, I'm sure that burning dried rubber cement balls is dangerous, and the fumes are probably bad for my health, but damn is it cool. It's almost like a sparkler.

This isn't anything recent, but I just found out today.

I don't know how many of you ever watched the show Wishbone, but it was a great show I watched religiously as a child. I found out that the dog that played Wishbone, Soccer, had died on June 26th of 2001. I'm looking for info on how he died, but I'm guessing it was possibly old age since he was about 13 or so. Not terribly old, but somewhat.

Wishbone was a show about a Jack Russell Terrier that would read books and imagine himself as the main character in the story. He would be dressed up in an outfit and other characters would treat him as a real person during his dreams. It was fantastic learning program that was also very interesting.

      R.I.P. Wishbone - 1988-2001.

For those of you who don't know what it's like to live in Minnesota, it's fucked up. All the snow that came down yesterday melted today. If you came into the state today, you would never be able to guess that it snowed that much yesterday. Sure, there's snow around, but it looks like it's been in its place for a long time, not like it's fresh.

I'm slowly becoming a chess master. My roommate and I play chess. Some games are very long and precise with each move being thought out three steps ahead, as it is supposed to be. Other are short and quick, and thought out a bit, but do have hasty choices that sometimes lead to great mistakes. I'm up on my roommate 4-2. The last two games were pretty interesting, the first was a long game that took about two weeks, and the other one was quick, was started last night, and ended tonight. I won both. I'm actually on a streak right now of three.

I think I'm becoming an old man, I'm finding chess games to be exciting.

It's been really nice the past week, warm enough for all the snow and ice to start melting. Well, today ruined that. It got cold and snowed a bunch. This resulted in horrible conditions, both visually and on the roads.

With that, leads me to the real important part of the story, on my way home, on a three lane area of the highway, this fella in a silver Grand Am is way over in the farthest left lane (the fast lane), I'm a ways back in the middle lane, a few hundred feet behind this semi. All of a sudden, the Grand Am spins out, crosses all three lanes of traffic spinning out, almost getting proper fucked by this semi that was next to his rear quarter panel when he spun out. The semi locks up his brakes and his trailer slides to take up two lanes.

By some miracle, no one gets hit, so I carry on my way driving home.

I know, it might be a disappointment to some since no one got hurt or killed, or nothing got destroyed, but it was really cool to see from a safe distance.

Just got out of the shower. I'm gonna try and set up a formal kind-of-thing.

My opinion: Better is not always objective
Your opinion: Better is ALWAYS objective

      What happened was...

...you commented on my picture with "Meh". Obviously, you did not enjoy my Faulkner appraisal. You THEN went on to mention, in your journal ('cause you KNEW I would respond (probably, you sick bastard)), that Hemingway was greater than William.

You quickly thereafter regarded it as Hemingway being BETTER than William
I knew (as do you) that you chose to say that to rile me up.
Anytime someone suggests their opinion without suggest it's "...just my opinion" they are automatically a target. The opponent would either respond with "That's just YOUR opinion" or would argue against it. I chose the latter. I chose to suggest that the way you meant 'better' was in a DEFINITE FORM.

You suggested there IS no definite form.

I dug deeper and found the definitions for "better" (out of arrogance and to distinguish YOUR arrogance).
Most of these definitions follow a certain way of thinking so I will quote the one that best suits my argument (it should be noted that it is also the FIRST definition listed)

(comparative of `good') superior to another (of the same class or set or kind) in excellence or quality or desirability or suitability; more ...

Suitability as you and I know means appropiate to a purpose or occasion.

Thus better is not entirely definite. My example is as follows:
If someone were to suggest that inhaling carbon dioxide was better than inhaling air, this would not suit (APPROPIATELY) your body.
I know you'd bring up the argument that the purpose/occasion could be death, yet, and I'm HONESTLY arguing this...

      ...*sigh*...

...the inhaling of carbon dioxide when oxygen is readily available is unappropiate as it would be suicide and (even though I have no beliefs regarding this)...suicide IS wrong. In general. It's like the negative to my POSITIVE.

      ...that's my argument.

    • hitalec

      Better is not clearly objective.

There are DEFINATELY cases where better is not objective.

There are more objective ways to look at it but it's not always the case.

Also, "FLING SOME CUSS WORDS"! Oh, yeah, cry your eyes out at the expense of my vulgarity, will ya'?

------as for my response not making sense, I was in the middle of playing GTA IV with a friend so, as I was...ya' know...talking to...A FRIEND...and practically ignoring your ludicrous need to substain conversations that are as boring as hell (while you could be busy doing all the stuff you say KEEPS you so busy when you're NEVER busy at all) whilst having fun with someone I actually know and enjoy talking to.

    • hitalec

Personal preferences do not make something better. For some things, there is no opinion of what is better...it just is.

A better wheel is a wheel that is perfectly circular.

Whilst I could enjoy a wheel made of bumpy rocks and that's my personal preference 'cause I like the stone-age.

(I won't respond to anything else, you shouldn't be arguing your dumb point anyone you fucking idiot)
