      onpoint.wbur.org/2011/11/02/when-machines-do-the-work?autostart=true

Today's On Point was very interesting--you should check it out. Generally, the topic was "machines (computers)" and all the jobs they can do better than humans, and how they will continue to be able to do more and more. I couldnt help thinking that certain "jobs" will always be done better by humans. Creative stuff, you know, art and music and crap like that.

haha--funny that our last exchange was re: winter!!! Yep, we got a lot of snow, about 8 inches, problem was the trees having their leaves still....soo....yeah was a mess. We JUST got the power back on, 3 days without. Packed up my studio ( no small feat) and moved to a friends place to get some work done....what a pita!!

I enjoy camping, even if it's in the house lol. But one of my cats is a real little thing---and 18 years old too---only 5 pounds. So she was gettin cold.....and shes not the hugging cuddling type....so, was a challenge. Jeez.

And here I was TRYING to meet a stringent self-imposed deadline. I fear it has slipped. smiley2.gif sigh.

And YOU!!??? how you doin? smiley11.gifsmiley10.gifsmiley11.gifsmiley10.gif

I know what you mean. I like classes that push me beyond my own abilities. Art teachers usually make things easy. "Go on children, just do whatever your hearts desire."
I did not mean to link your images. Oh well. Feel free to check out some stuff I've been doing, but take the time to take a picture of your own work.
I'd love to see what cool stuff is going on.

You haven't been getting paid?! That's pretty crappy. Sorry to hear that. Cheapskates.
What kind of art class are you taking at the college level?
I've been drawing a lot. You can check it out if you want.

My job interview went fine. I've got a few more, sounds like. Also, I did look sexy/badass.

Education can be pretty crappy. You've gotta buckle down, hold your nose, and push through the shit that comes at you.
      Gross.
I hope you're still setting aside time for you. You deserve it.

    • Kempob

I'm sorry to hear about that! Are they classes that are easy to catch up on? Anything the VAG can do to help? Anything I can do to help?
My end is fantastic. I've got a job interview lined up for tomorrow. I hope it goes well. My first, like, suit and tie interview.
Also, Austin, Texas November 3rd. So I'm excited for that. I have no money, but maybe that will change. Who knows?
I've been drawing a lot, and I'm becoming more and more proud of my work. Like I feel as though I can call myself an artist now (maybe?).
Otherwise, I've just been relaxing and being cool. School's hard, but it's all good.

      In reply to Vaughnie, #21:

YES YES YES YES YES!!! I actually got it on Friday. I was hoping to maybe escape the studio for a few hours and get a new camera so I could send you a pic of it in place....but I havent managed to do that just yet. Last camera died...... I think i did too many 0 degree days with it last winter (big winter person here. Winter is what it's like inside your freezer, if you have not seen it first hand, Tex).

So yeah--the picture. You'll think I am kissing your butt, but I am actually not one for that. I think it's really beautiful and much more beautiful in person than the online pic I saw. It looks really great in the studio, the colors are perfect.

And I really love the bonus picture too and the large format signature!!

I have been thinking about something....I wonder if you might be interested in a project for me. Quite a few years ago, one of my dogs passed away, at a fairly young age, with some kind of neurological problems. My gf at the time took one photo I had of her and had an artist do a drawing of it. It's b/w, i'd guess it's charcoal, but I'm no expert.

So, I've lost other pets since then and I have been thinking about having similar portraits made of them. There would be four of them. They are 8.5 x 11 size. Is this something you would be interested in doing?

Thank you again for the picture I am really very happy to have it here!!

Haha I'm not so much an "Aid" so much as a "Dude."

I figured you didn't live in Austin. Feel free to drive 7 hours all the way over there. I'm coming in from Kansas. Hopefully I can go to RTX this next time.
And a lot of people are smart and do community college first, then university. I went backwards. University first. Then Community College. Very interesting.
Well, when I'm in Austin, you and I can do a super 'air-five.' I can't air-five more than a 10 hour drive. It's impossible. We could do a 'virtual-five' now, but that's not as cool, obviously.

      • Vaughnie

I'm not really a teacher. I'm in school to be one. I go to an elementary school to observe classrooms, which basically means help the teacher, talk to kids, show them how to do stuff, talk them down from tantrums, and otherwise sit on my ass, watching the teacher do stuff.
That's very, very exciting. I'll actually be going to Austin November 3rd. Feel free to say hey. I'm gonna drop in on the Roosterteeth crew. Fuck with them a bit.
Are you excited for college? Or pissed that there's more school? Do you get to move out of the house?

Haha I forgot how young you are. When you said senior, I was thinking in college, like me. Although I changed majors a few times, so I've got a little ways to go.
What is the best new work you've done?
What colleges are you looking at?
      What major you going into?

I've also been really busy. Lots of elementary school teaching, school, and work. I have been able to get some nice drawing in though. I'm making a nice children's ABC book. Written and Illustrated by me. I hope it works out. I mean, I know I'm a ridiculously talented artist (lol) but a book takes a lot more planning than just drawing a picture.
What's keeping you busy? What kind of stuff are you working on?

    • Kempob

OK. So I still haven't seen this crazy AD yet. What the heck? I'm super unlucky. How's it doing? But more importantly, how are you doing?

wow, DA KEEPS everyone's money!?? For real? That's pretty insane. So, you get points, and with the points you can buy other people's art? hmmmm. Fishy. I thought I hated Apple, and they only keep 30% of our money. Well, I can still hate Apple, I have plenty of reasons. For example, they suck. That's a good reason right?

No miracles? That's ok, I kinda got my share of miracles in the last few weeks. A lot of the RvB stuff turned out really great (we just completed the season), and there were a few things that I thought just were NOT going to turn out well.....some tricky stuff!

But yeah, now it's time to crank out the CD. I love it but it is a ton of work. Short of miracles I get a huge amount of amazing positive energy from people here on the site. And I have some new blue leopard art to look forward to. And I have the birds outside my window smiley12.gif

hmmmm. Well, you paid full price for the song, so I wish to pay full price for the drawing. Well.....you're going to fight me, and I'm just too old and lazy for that. I'll just go buy some more of yer stuff on DA. Ha, that should teach you a lesson. smiley0.gifsmiley0.gifsmiley0.gif See, 20 hours into it, and our first fight. I'm real smooth with the ladies.

The other option is that I could send you a copy of the Revelation soundtrack CD.

Deity? Sure, you seem worthy of worship. We'll see what kind of musical miracles happen once your art is moved in. Right at the moment I could reallly use some miracles.

I have it narrowed down to a few places where I think it will hang. Might go right next to the window, which would be a big deal. My connection to the birds who inhabit the trees outside my window is nothing short of spiritual. (Second story window and trees are dense and nice and close). But it might look better with a black or dark grey background behind it. We'll just have to do some testing.

I hope you will charge me for it, I wish to show my appreciation for your art in the same way you have done for mine.

btw you have the BEST signature. B E S T.

Ummm, sure, size doesn't matter (bow chicka wow wow). I wasn't exactly going to build a new wing on the house for it (not that your art isn't wing-worthy, cuz it totally is). But I'm also happy to buy the print off DA if you don't want to part with your original. Either way I need it personally signed, I figure that's a perk of having a deep, long-lasting friendship with the artist. And we're going on 12 hours here now.
