    • ODST RP Character

      VegasSpartan

I've been looking to get back into RP, so I've made myself a new character :D

      Name: Max Saiger
Rank: Hospital Corpsman Third Class (HM3/E4-Corporal Equivalant)
      Nicknames: "Vegas" "Doc"
Role: UNSC Naval Corpsman, ODST Corps
Personality: Sarcastic, laid-back jokester, though deathly serious about his job, and definatly good at it.
      Height: 5' 11"
      Age: 20
Bio: Born in Las Vegas, on Earth, Max (like every person in his generation) grew up with The War always in the back of his mind. It's just the way things were. He hadn't planned on joining the military, he just wanted to live his life and help people as a civilian. He did well enough in school to become a certified Paramedic. He was alright with that, until word came back that his brother had been killed. It was a call to action for the 19 year old. He signed up for the Navy a week later, and became a Medical Corpsman. A year into service he volunteered for ODST training, and received above-average scores on the majority of the tests. Fairly average for an ODST (which is to say, above-average for the rest of the military), Max had the respect of his team. Well, until they were massacred, his Sergeant dying in his arms on the Pelican ride out. It's an experience that haunts him, though he rarely mentions it.
Loadout: BR55HBSR, M6C-SOCOM, expanded medical kit (roughly four times the medical gear most ODSTs carry)
      Appearance:

...or so it was, until I woke up.

It was about the second week of fifth grade for me. I was at my grandmother's house. My dad was out of town, in New York, actually. He'd been one of the cameramen on that Michael Jackson special just a few days eariler. He was supposed to fly out today. But whateva, I was just sleeping. What did I have to care about?

My grandmother wakes me. This was a woman that wasn't scared easily, mind you. She was born in 1922, she grew up during the Depression and WWII. She'd been around the block. I saw fear in her eyes for the only time in my life.

Naturally I'm confused. I roll over, to see a television that's already on. That's nothing new, she always wakes up before me... but it's never on the news. I know that skyline. That's New York City. I was there about a year ago. Those towers. I drove by them... there were two right? Yeah... where's the other one...? That's what I kept thinking. "There's two towers. Where's the second one?!"

Then they replayed the plane crashes. That's when things started to piece together in my mind, especially the part where my dad was supposed to be on a plane like that this morning, coming home. I roll over to the phone, my grandmother hands it to me. My dad's already called. He was waiting for his flight when the news came on with the report. Naturally, nobody in the terminal could believe it. He assured me I was alright, but that he had to go.

After he hung up I saw the second tower collapse. I was horrified. I was nine years old, and I was horrified. A nine year old child in America should NEVER be horrified. I remember thinking that very well.

It was time for school... a school where nobody said anything that day. We were all in a daze. What was happening? Would we be hit next? We were nine years old, in fifth grade, and suddenly the world was falling apart!

-Moral of the story? Don't you fucking dare for a single second think that I hate America when I say what I say about politics. I went through what we all went through on that day. I love this country, that's why I care about what direction it goes. Fuck off if you're going to accuse me of hating this nation.

      FOR I HAVE PLAYED ODST.

Yup. It was pretty freaking awesome. Got to play a couple of rounds of Firefight at the GameCrazy in-house convention here in Vegas. One of those Managers from stores all over the country type deals. My mom was part of the crew on the show, and she got me a badge. Pretty epic stuff.

There were several rooms, one for each console, running new and soon-to-be-released games. I spent most of my time in the Microsoft room where they were running Splinter Cell Conviction, Rock Band Beatles, Forza, Left 4 Dead 2, and of course ODST. Good times.

I played five rounds of Firefight, three on Security Zone and two on Crater (Night). Very very awesome maps.

Spent lots of time talking with Lars, one of Bungie's design leads on ODST (and now he's part of the Reach team, but he couldn't talk about it of course).

I can prove and disprove many a rumor that's been burning across the interwebs, so please feel free to ask me questions about ODST, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Oh and no, I didn't get Recon. I asked, but Lars has no power over that particular piece of swag.

After watching Bungie's "Ten Years" video, I decided it was time to dust off my old hobby of video editing. I finished up this montage of the Trilogy in about a week, working with Windows Movie Maker (unfortunatly I couldn't find my old Adobe Premier discs). I've done several montages/music videos in the past, but nothing as long as this one.

You'll notice that I left out Halo Wars as well as ODST and Reach. There are a few reasons for this.

The reason I left out Halo Wars:
It is not a Bungie game, and as much as I love Halo and thank Bungie for bringing it to us, this video is a thank you to them, and it didn't seem right to include a game they didn't make.

The reason for ODST and Reach:
While I'm extremely confident that they will be superb games, and I'm going to get both, they are not out yet, and this video is meant mostly as a thank-you to Bungie for what we have so far.

Yes, I know Requiem for a Dream is used alot, especially for videos like this. I picked it because it was the most appropriate for the video I had in my mind, and because I've never worked with it before.

I left the final cutscene of Halo 3 intact and after the credits because I wanted to have Chief's line of "Wake me, when you need me" to be the end of my video but I couldn't bring myself to cut up what is easily one of the best and most emotional cutscenes in any video game, and so I decided to play it the way Bungie did: after the credits and in its entirety.

All that being said, please enjoy my work, and feel free to leave any comments/suggestions either in this thread or directly on the YouTube page smiley0.gifsmiley12.gif

So I was reading the Field Guide for ODST over on B.net, and I noticed something interesting about the entry for the Brute:

      BRUTE (Jiralhanae)

Massive and ape-like. Many have been observed speaking human languages. Depending on location and MOS they will be encountered in groups up to eight.

They are fearless, vicious opponents and must not be underestimated. Currently, they fill the command role that Elites occupied previously. Whether or not this is indicative of a power shift within the Covenant is of no consequence to the current operation. ANYTHING that seeks to obstruct the successful completion of your mission is a legitimate target.

(I boldfaced the line that piqued my interest, but "ANYTHING" is capitalized on the original article)

Now, I may be reading too far into this, but follow me here and see if it doesn't get your brain a-workin'.

So we know that Dare is an ONI agent, and we know that ONI has done some rather... questionable acts in the past. I'm thinking that this "ANYTHING" may be pointing to a moral decision plot point somewhere, though I have no idea what it is. Dare's entry on the guide has all her info listed as [classified], and we know she ordered a course change during the drop, saying it was "Exactly where I need to go.", a place other than Regret's carrier, the original target. Needless to say, she's a very mysterious figure (as any good ONI agent should be >.>)

So yeah, I may be reading too far into this, but Bungie really likes Easter Eggs and hidden clues.

I'd like to hear what everyone thinks about this smiley0.gifsmiley12.gif

I seriously don't get why this "movement" is still alive and as well as it is in this country. You've all heard of it. This belief that "Obama isn't a natural born citizen, where's his birth certificate?! HE'S A LIAR! RABBLE RABBLE! BAAAAWWWW!"

      Well... Drumroll, please.

      *drumroll*

      2008-06-12_obama_birth_certificate.jpg
      obama-birth-certificate.jpg

HOLY SHIT I'M A FUCKING WIZARD.

Seriously. There's your proof. Shut the fuck up and sit down. It's over. You lost. Deal with it. If you're going to talk shit about the President, actually talk about a real issue based in real facts.

Further arguement because I'm so fucking pissed off that people would be ignorant enough to still believe this bullshit LIE about Obama.
Oh and here's a little more.

And yes, I believe that Congressman has a point about the future of this arguement, but what I don't agree with is how he dodged every single question that would have made him take a stance on the issue.

Now, I don't like Chris Matthews very much at all, but as Colbert would say: "Nailed."

EDIT: Yes, I know Obama is far from perfect. I'm fully aware of this. I never said he was a Godsend or anything like that. But I do believe that if you are going to attack someone, actually have the balls to attack them for something that really happened, not some bullshit lie that you heard once from some chain letter on the seriez o tubes.
Ignorance is the single worst problem with this country, hands down. Open your eyes, look around, listen to the real world, don't trust hearsay, don't trust Fox, don't trust MSNBC, don't trust people that tell you to trust them. Go out and look for the answers, get your heads out of your collective asses, and wake up and smell the fucking coffee.

I await your neg mods without comments, Republicans! It's the RvB.com equivalent of RAGEQUIT.

Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding ODST Firefight:
      - Did you fight any other enemy's besides grunts, jackals, brutes, hunters, wraiths and ghosts?
      - What weapons were absent/present that did or did not expect to be there.
      - Is it really that hard fighting without shields?
