      In reply to VocalDrummer, #62:

I don't get to spend much time on the site anymore but poked my head in and saw your comment. I am deeply touched that you took what I said to heart because I really meant it. I remember how I used to read journals that you wrote where you would mention either seeing or talking to Cheryl or talking to her and I was always struck by how deeply you expressed yourself in regards to her and it really showed just how much you love her.

When times get hard and things are rough, those are the feelings that you have to remember otherwise it defeats the purpose of getting married in the first place. It's easy to yell at each other when your mad at each other; do the hard thing and tell each other that even though you are angry, you still love each other and would not want to be with anyone else.

You can still reach me by gmail if you wanna holler at me.

      Peace, my friend. Late.

Hey Mr. Drummer Man, I forgot to leave a message during the day (I actually worked last Thursday, phooo~) but I hope you had a nice Veterans Day celebration. I'm certain every year brings you mixed feelings, positive and negative alike, but you're still strong and kicking and that's what matters. = )

I hope all is well, and yes, I'm going to add you as my buddy on XBL if that's still okay with you. It'll be a really weird unexpected... Charlie Chaplin-esque game picture. It's weird, but it's my disguise, ha ha. =p Maybe rumble with you in "SSF IV" soon! =D

      Hi Mr. Drummer Man,

Alrighty, release order it is! I was thinking that would be one reason I'd go in release order, but also to experience the story they had meant it to be experienced, even though I'm not sure they intentionally structured the narrative around such a fragmented release schedule.

Also, I don't have XBL on my own account yet - there's a family one we use, but I'm going to treat myself to my own account upgrade once I get some monies - so I'll have to hold off for now. I never play online, but I'd love to KICK YOUR BUTT IN "SSF IV," BRING IT!!!! Actually, I haven't played much of that, either; too busy with Life to play games these days! >_<

Ahh, no spoilers? Beautiful. I must go read sometime, then! ^_^

Thank you for writing back, I hope everything with work and home is going great for you!

      Mr. Drummer Man,

I woke up this morning thinking of Rydia, and how back in the day "summoning" was called "Call Magic," NOT summoning. Then I remembered this big strategy guide I had for a couple hundred SNES games (or close to it) with "IV" being included in there; there was a section on retrieving Bahamut called "Beck and Call," and I lied in bed thinking of whether or not I am "Summoner" or "Caller." I was thinking about all this for maybe longer than I should admit, but it made me nostalgic, and now I feel like playing again, maybe the new DS re-release.

Anyway, just thought to share! Hope you've been having good days! ^_^

Awesome! Hope they can get your stuff back... might even be able to try the "hard drive in the freezer trick", lol. (Google it :D)

    • sniperfidy

What?!?!? If anything was seriously wrong that drive it wouldn't power on, would sound like 1000 nails on a chalkboard, or like throwing boulders@ a wood chipper, lol. Its your choice but I would send it in for examination and an estimate from an actual data recovery professional. No offense to whoever you talked to but I doubt they've ever recovered data from a failing drive.

Don't worry about paying me back or anything... knowledge is free, its the physical labor that I charge for lol. If you ever see me on XBL I'd love to play some matchmaking though!

Oh speaking of which your wife left me a message on XBL... any idea what she wanted?

    • sniperfidy

Well, if it's making a humming sound that's good for two reasons:
      -The drive is getting power
      - Humming =/= scratching. hammering, or any other bad sound

You could always send it to a data recovery facility and get a quote*...
Whatever you decide to do though, DON'T open it! You'll let the magic white smoke out and never see your dataz again, lol.

      Best of luck!

*Getting a quote from the Geek Squad City DRD (Data Recovery Division) requires a non-refundable deposit of $59.99. The deposit is used to pay for shipping/diagnosis of the hard drive. Once diagnosis is completed (usually takes about a week after they receive the hard drive due to the volume of work they have) they will call you with an estimate and you either approve the estimate or not. If you approve the estimate they will get to work and notify you of the results. If you don't approve they will ship the hard drive back to your nearest Best Buy for pickup. The $59.99 is applied towards the estimate if you approve it, or kept if you don't. At minimum it will most likely cost $200 after the deposit. ($259 total)

A few of the guys in DRD owe me some favors from when I worked with them and if you decide to send it I can see if they can "improve" the wait time or price, lol. You can always return the hard drive dock and apply that towards the deposit.

Hey, just found this and thought it was relevant:

Enter coupon code EMCYTZT118 to drop the price to $99 with free shipping.

Hopefully you get this in time, but when it comes to external (and internal for that matter) hard drives, your best bet is to stick with the big players. In this case that would be Seagate and Western Digital. I also didn't know how much hard drive space you needed, what your budget was, and if you needed anything faster that USB 2.0.

I don't know if they'll all be available at your local Best Buy, but here are my top picks out of what's currently on their website:

      1) www.bestbuy.com/site/Seagate+-+Expansion+1TB+External+USB+2.0+Desktop+Hard+Drive+-+Black/9238121.p?id=1218065495073&skuId=9238121

      $89.99, Fast, 2 year warranty.

      2) www.bestbuy.com/site/Western+Digital+-+My+Book+Elite+1TB+External+USB+2.0+Hard+Drive+-+Charcoal/9493112.p?id=1218113928931&skuId=9493112

For $10 more than the one above you get a nifty heads up display, and a 3 year warranty.

      3) www.bestbuy.com/site/Western+Digital+-+My+Book+Essential+1.5TB+External+USB+2.0+Hard+Drive/9467196.p?id=1218109896939&skuId=9467196

'Lil bit pricier but you get 500GB more, 2 year warranty

When it comes to external/internal hard drives I always ignore the reviews because anyone who's hard drive dies leave a bad review, and it will eventually happen to everybody.

Hope this helps, lemme know if you have any other questions, hopefully you can retrieve your stuff! =D

      Yup!

When you plug it in, it'll look something like this:

      You're almost done!
Unplug the extra board by detaching it from where I highlighted in red:
      hdd02%202.jpg

Then you should be left with just the hard drive.
Let me know how it goes!

    • sniperfidy

Just got your second comment, lol.

Would you be able to post a picture so I know what green circutboardy stuff you're talking about? Some is supposed to be attached to the drive (like this) but there should be nothing attached to the connectors so it looks something like this:

      MaxtorULTRA16300GB7200SATA-Liquid3D-7739

    • sniperfidy

So you have what they call a 3.5" sata internal hard drive. You can pick up a dock like this one at Best Buy and put the hard drive in it as shown, plug it into your computer's USB port and hopefully retrieve your data. The hard drive dock can be returned to Best Buy within 30 days for your money back whether it works or not, lol.

As long as your hard drive is still functioning physically it should work.
Best of luck, let me know if you have any more questions! =)
