I am crazy happy right now. For my birthday (which has passed, I just didn't think to share until now) my wife bought me the Pioneer Dolby 5.1 XBOX360 surround system. It is the coolest low budget system I have ever seen. She got it for $125 before tax (At Tuesday Morning's). I think that since it is licensed for the Xbox, and designed around it, people think that it is strictly for the xbox, but it will work with anything. I suspect this, because Tuesday Morning is one of those stores that picks up overstocked merchandise from other retailers and sells it at a discounted price. The original price point is only $150 anyway, and I can't understand how anyone would be overstocked with these things, unless people thought that they couldn't use it. The sound reproduction is fantastic. It includes an optical cable, and has multiple inputs. The unit is very compact, in fact, the head unit is almost as small as the detachable face on a car stereo. The sweetest feature is the MCACC (MultiChannel Audio Calibration somethinorother). It's awesome. It comes with a microphone that you plug into the back, and then place at your normal listening position. It runs a signal test from all six speakers, and calibrates the level for each automatically. Straight up dummy-proof surround sound. I love it. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention- the remote control works for the Xbox right out of the box; no need to keep two of them out when watching DVDs.

Seriously, this product is extremely underrated.

    • So, here's to partnerships.

I am currently in the process of "divorcing" my partner. I own half of a small custom cabinetry shop, and I'm done with it. The business has been successful, and I've done well, not to mention the fact that all of my customers are extremely happy, and I have tons of referrals. Here's the problem: my partner isn't satisfied with the profits. This is an incredible frustration for me. I get 70% of the profits after all bills have been paid for the period. Those bills include half of the property that the shop is on (my partners property, and mortgage), and half of the utilities on the property (including internet, and phone which I do not use at work), and the entire balance of the tools that were financed for the business (more than half of which are useless, but expensive - I didn't have any say in what equipment was purchased). My partner gets the remaining 30% after the books have been balanced. This is my frustration, I am paying for his land, and building, and utilities, and tools - none of which I have ownership rights to. I am padding his account with 30% of my profits as well, and I am left with the rest. Not bad money, but he is getting all of the benefits, and wants more. Enough that he has been riding my ass like crazy for the past several months. I'm done. When I have a bad month, I don't get paid, but his bills still do. When I leave, I will not be able to take anything with me, because on paper I don't own anything. Yet, he still bitches. You would think that he'd kiss my ass, considering the fact that as long as I am working with him his bills are half of what they will be when I leave.

I think part of the problem is that when you are in a partnership, one party or the other will almost always be suspicious of the intent, or dedication of the other. I do a good job of remaining neutral in my opinions of him, and try to overlook the shady things that I see, because we have to work together. Recently, I've had a few medical problems, and I've been in and out of clinics (nothing nasty, just a minor skin condition), resulting in less appearances at the shop. We have been tense recently, so I've just kind of avoided talking about it with him, but now I find that he already has an opinion of my shorter hours. He has told one of my customers that he suspects that I've gotten into hard drugs. WTF? He thinks I'm shooting up apparently. I have no idea whatsoever where that came from. Really, it's absolutely ridiculous. How the hell do you jump straight to the assumption that heavy drug use is the problem? For that matter, who in their right mind would relay such suspicions to a customer?

Whatever, I could go on for pages. The point is, be very wary of business partnerships, and under no circumstances, develop one with a friend. It just won't end well.

I had a freakin sweet past few days. A friend of mine, whom I've been in unspoken Halo 3 achievement competition with, just got 49/49 last week. I needed 3 more, the splazer double, the overkill, and the killing frenzy. These three have been killing me, so I decided to try not to win, but keep my stats up as well. It turns out being a pretty fun approach to playing. I'd try to keep a + K/D, and get some medals, while right out of the box trying for the killing frenzy, but then losing the game later. It's actually pretty tricky. Anyway, in the last few days, I've gone from a 30 in LW to a 21, and I got 2 splazer doubles, 2 overkills, and my damn killing frenzy. Yay! I has teh sword nowz!

I've been thinking about it. Cake v Pie... Pie wins. Hands down. Seriously, you can use it for cobblers (omg blackberry cobbler!!!). You can just go classic - apple, cherry etc. I like peach pie. The biggest reason pie wins is this: Pizza pie!!! You can't have pizza cake can you? I suppose you could, but I'd like to avoid that one. Also, there's shepards pie yum. One of my favorite dishes to cook (I love to cook), is what I call gourmet meat pie. Could come up with something more clever...it's browned ground pork seasoned with a little cinnamon, pepper, and greek seasoning (inspired by empanadas) mixed with ricotta, provolone, and muenster cheeses, creamed spinach, yellow, green, and orange bellpeppers, caramalised onions, and garlic. All of this encased in a nice pie shell, and baked @350 for about 20 mins. It is freakin awesome.

You can't do that with cake.

I got a smooch! Yay, in celebration, I am cranking up something to help some people around here. This is an easy one, so please take example and do something similar. Two major holidays are coming up that involve food. Nom, nom, nom! Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so better hurry for that one. Christmas is far enough away that there should be time to plan. Go to your local Salvation Army, or Goodwill, and ask them where hungy people will eat on those holidays. In Gulfport, here, It's at one of 3 churches. The Salvation Army will be catering two of them, and the other is funded by a local group of small businesses ((I've donated a stipend to this one). I don't want to pick on the Salvation Army, but I've helped serve at one of these before, and other than the Turkey (eveybody donates a turkey), the menu frankly sucked. They need side items, and desserts. Everyone overlooks the rest of the meal. Let's give these guys a real holiday meal this year. I am going to be cooking some good ol southern sweet cornbread dressing (mah specialty, and I can cook 10 trays in one go), to take to the churches, and I am going to collect some choice canned foods from my friends, and professional aquantances. We need to get them some green beans, cream of mushroom soup, celery veg mix (for Green Bean Cassarole), butter beans (cause their good), cranberry sauce (I hate it, but you gotta have it), and what ever else I get. I'm not bad with pecan pie (pie rules), but I have a friend that blows me out of the water on that one, and she has agreed to cook 15 pies.

Do something similar where you live!

So, the IRIS ARG was riddled with problems, and in the end, 500 people (100 unlocking each server) were to recieve "rewards for participation". The people who unlocked servers 1 and 2 recieved packages, and the swag was pretty cool. A limited edition Halo 3 t-shirt, a redeemable keycode for XBL that unlocked limited edition IRIS avatars, a couple of assorted posters, an autographed Halo book by Eric Nylund, and other items were used in combination to fill the first two sets of packages. Nothing was ever heard beyond the recipients of server 2 packages. I unlocked server 4, and publicized the link on the B.net forums for others to get in. After a couple of months without hearing anything since the server 2 packages arrived, I began to get pretty frustrated, and suspected that the last 300 participants would never recieve anything.

Anyway, with the backing of Foman, and other people from the CI community, along with theBruce, I started a thread in the B.net Community forums confronting Bungie about the issue. Here is the thread for your reading pleasure. The original subject line read: "I thought the Bungie Community was for more than free advertising." During the course of the threads progression (over about a week and a half), Achronos, a Bungie employee, visited the thread, and answered our concerns with seeming deflection. The only reason the tone ever changed (to something a bit less accusatory) was the development of some members recieving packages.

Now, many members of CI have recieved packages containing Halo 3 swag. Several of the members that have gotten packages so far, did not actually participate in the unlocking of servers. This, coupled with the fact that the new packages have notable cheaper swag, leads me to believe that Bungie couldn't get the necessary information from Microsoft's Marketing Department (the team originally charged with handling the project), and M$MD did not follow up, or simply dropped their responsibilities. Since Bungie could not get the contact information from M$, they simply started sending out stuff to people who were properly listed with contact info, and members of CI, or other participating IRIS based forum groups. Understand, this paragraph is mainly speculative, not much of this is substanciated.

I and many people who's opinions I respect, believe that the packages that are now being sent out, are coming as a direct result of my thread on B.net. A few people who should know, have sited reasons for their opinions that are pretty convincing. I'd list some of them, but they amount to hearsay, and conspiracy theory style reasoning. For fear of slander, I will leave these items out.

Anyway, I think I win!!! Yay!

Ah yes, it's sad to see students quit because of a teacher...not a teacher at all if ya ask me. Anyways, that's cool about the clarinet and cello and it's cool that you are still hanging on to the music. Haha, yeah ADD, I think one of my students is ADD cause he doesn't stop moving during our lesson times and doesn't stop getting distracted...but still, he's a pretty god calrinet player,.

Thanks. I love Rooster Teeth, and have followed RvB for a very long time. I just got into forums when Bungie started, but I was inactive for the most part until the IRIS ARG. That's when I found out how much fun a good forum community could be. Bungie is often overrun by younger, immature members, so I thought this would be a natural place to look for another fun community, that may be held to a bit higher standard. From what I've seen so far, I think I was right. This should be fun.

Are you a mod, or just helpful? Also, I've noticed that most of my commands work here [ i ], [ b ], etc. does [ img ] work the same? I know not to post an image in a thread where they aren't welcome, but I found a thread with pics, and I would like to add one. Rather than trying it, i figured I'd wait until I could ask. Nice of you to show up.

LoLz! I just looked in the top right hand corner of this box. I guess that answered my question.
