1st quarter is over, and I end up with a 3.945 GPA, which gives me a cumulative GPA throughout my entire time at BC High of 3.805 (High Honors) which = $100 for my Wii

      My computer broke. Yea!!!!!!!! smiley4.gifsmiley4.gifsmiley4.gif

So basically, I downloaded a file from LimeWire, and it turns out the whole thing gets infected by a Trogen that likes to copy itself. So now that one is unplugged, we're going to see next weekend if we get anything from the hard drive out of it, and right now I am using another computer my sister had from college (it is unused now that she lives at home).

What I was so glad that worked out perfectly is that the computer already had a WiFi setup for her college, so the computer automatically connected to my wireless router without any configurations. So, it will work out fine if we can get a bunch of saved files of documents and picture off the old hard drive.

    • yea, just ignore this

October 29th, 2006Ethical Dilemma of Death: Yay or Nay
The Puritans in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 were devoted Catholics who believed that all Puritans would be saved and all others would be condemned to eternal punishment. They were against any displays of public “enjoymentâ€Â, such as dancing, books, plays, and almost everything else that was entertaining at that time, and were obviously strong believers in the Devil. With these strict Catholic beliefs, a recent small pox epidemic going around infecting hundreds, and the people in the court systems wanting more power, it was the perfect place to start up a chain reaction of fear, suspicion, and lies that lasted well over a year. This “chain reaction†was the Salem Witch trials, which lead to the death of at least 18 people (and two dogs). In the play The Crucible, Author Miller perfectly portrays this time of fear and power struggles by following the character John Proctor, who was one of the eighteen people who was hung by the court for being a witch. At the end of Miller’s play, a disillusioned Reverend Hale urges Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, to beg her husband to save himself by signing a confession. If I were in Elizabeth Proctor’s position, I would try to convince John Proctor to save himself by lying instead of dying for a crime he did not commit.
In Act IV of The Crucible, Reverend Hale urges Elizabeth Proctor to get her husband to sign off to a public confession, therefore saving his life. Hale is the only person who is connected to the courts in Salem who is actively trying to save people from hanging. In this situation where Hale is trying to save John Proctor, Hale knows he needs John’s wife, Elizabeth, to convince him to lie and confess he is a witch to save himself. At first, it seems that Elizabeth does convince Proctor to confess, but when John signs the papers, he immediately regrets the decision and tears up the document, thus forcing Danforth and Judge Hathorne to hang him. While Proctor is being brought out to the hanging post at the break of sunrise, Hale says, “Woman, plead with him! Woman! It is pride, it is vanity. What profit him to bleed? Shall the dust praise him? Shall the worms declare his truth? Go to him, take his shame away.†Elizabeth replies, “He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him! (145)â€Â
In order to understand the decisions of Elizabeth and John Proctor, we must examine the character of John and Elizabeth Proctor. John Proctor was well-liked and respected in the community, and this worried Hale because if he was hung by the court, he was afraid that there would be a riot just like in Andover. John also a prodigious amount of (self-)respect and dignity, and because of this, he could not lie and abandon his friends who were also being put to death. Even when faced with his own death, he still did not lose the respect of the town and his friends, and even he knows it. For example, as Proctor was just about to be hung, Hale said to Proctor “Man, you will hang! You cannot [refuse the confession]!†Proctor responds, “I can. And there’s your first marvel, that I can. You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor.†Elizabeth Proctor is a woman who is loyal to her husband. Even though she wants her husband to be saved from death, she understands that he is dignified and that he would rather die with dignity than live a life with shame. Because of this, she does not pursue John to make the confession in the last minute, and instead accepts John’s choice of dying.
I do not believe that John Proctor died as a martyr. He died because instead of living life as an outcast and to be known for betraying his friends when faced with death, he decided to die for wrongful reasons and be saved by God and brought into his Kingdom. If I were in Elizabeth Proctor’s position or in John’s position, and I would have to choose between losing a spouse (or dying) and saving my spouse (or myself) but lose a high amount of respect in a community, I would definitely choose saving myself or spouse. Even though beliefs and ideas have changed since then, and if I lived during that time period my views might be different, I think that God would forgive someone who would lie to save his own life. Also, I do not think that God would want an innocent person to die and have his life wrongfully taken away. John Proctor wrongfully died because of a lie started my a group of girls who could not stop, and if I was in his position, I would not choose to die for the same reason.

    • Sorry about not making a real journal

Yea, so for the 4 weeks, my journals have been literally shorter that 21 words. So, to make it up to my loyal watchers (I only have 25 now???), I'm actually going to make a journal.

WELL, the reason that I have not been on making journals recently is because of school. The work has actually started to get to the "non-getting used to school again" work level, and I've got Mock Trial going on again (only the really loyal people that watched me last year know what that is).

Basically, the reason I have time to make a good journal today is because tomorrow I have a PSAT test during school that every sophmore at my school takes. The test is only 3 hours long, so I get to leave at 11:30 AM, and it doesn't actually count for anything; it's just to see how well we are doing...So me and 2 of my friends decided to make it interesting. Each of us made a bet that we would do the best on the test. It's a $10 buy-in, winner gets it all. smiley8.gif

I couldn't get a preorder for the Wii, so me and 2 friends (different from the ones above) are gonna camp out Nov. 18th for it....and I'll have about $350 by then because my dad is giving my $100 if I get a 4.00 GPA this term, which I will. smiley0.gifsmiley0.gifsmiley0.gif

Um, so basically besides that, that's about it that going on right now...don't have a girlfriend yet, still trying to work on that...and, um, I hope to get some comments.
