...to everyone that are still going through and reporting things for attention.

I see your "-1 Flamebaits", you guys are the real MVPs.

Now hopefully with the new site it'll either become a non-issue to deal with, or at the very least much better then reloading your whole page.

    • Weird Way to Stop Being Silent

That's right, I'm still hovering about. Mostly reliving the glory days of lurking, but it is what it is, when you are busy working you quite often don't have much that is exciting outside of a core group of people.

Why post something now? Mostly to bitch (can't complain I'm not consistent).

      ---------------------------------

As I posted on my Twitter:

      "

Had to hang up on a phonecall today that sounded important because they didnt give me a heads up.
General tip, if your call is important MAYBE lead with an email so the receiver is aware its coming, cant do much if I am stuck having to listen to something else important

      "

Now, a bit of context around this. NZ lately has been suffering a glut of crank callers from phone numbers similar to the one I received (and also Britain for some reason), so that already put me on a bad footing.

Following that, when you ring someone with something that sounds really important it seems weird not to pre-prime them so they are aware and can get ready (at the time I was sitting in a chair about to have a blood donation needle shoved into my arm with a nurse talking in my ear, and on a normal day I'd be wrapping up in the office, or in end-of-day meetings. And hell, contacting me by email is a surefire way to get a good response anyway).

And third, if it is important maybe don't have your background sound like you are on the Wall Street Trading Floor. If I can't hear you properly I'm not going to put effort in, cause it makes it seem like you haven't on your side (plus its a bit of a hallmark of scam calls).

So, sorry to whoever was giving me a ring. Whatever it was you wanted to discuss I properly would have at least had some input with, but because of the above you caught me at a bad time then didn't exactly instill me with confidence that the call was going to go well. Who knows, maybe tomorrow you'll try again and actually catch me at a good time.

      ---------------------------------

And that's about my piece for now. Hope everyone else that is still hanging around this site as well, and can't wait to see the upcoming improvements.

Well then if that isn't a surprise.

Hello to anyone who happens to venture this way, feel free to say hello.

Hope everyone is having a great day, which given its a Friday for most people, hopefully it isn't too difficult.

    • Queens Birthday

It's the Queen's Birthday weekend in NZ, meaning we get a 3 day weekend, which is something I will pretty much never complain about.

In the meantime at work I have been busy, scripting my butt off for tasks that make everyone's life that little bit easier. It's been a lot of as it either means puttering around in Powershell, giving access to the range of .NET methods and classes, or in vRealize Orchestrator which in its simplest form is like building a script out of bricks, and then for any tasks not provided you whip em up in Javascript.

Also been picking up the training along the way as well. So far I've already attended a Docker introduction course to solidify my knowledge in that area (and I have spent a lot of time messing with VMs and Containers in this context lately), and I also pick up my ITIL Foundation Certification, which was actually a pretty nifty 3 day course.

On the more casual front I watched Wonder Woman today. What an enjoyable movie. I was hesitant going into it, cause ya know, DC Live Action has been more miss than hit, but this was such a solid enjoyable movie that I would recommend it to anyone.

Beyond that? Well, I'm managing to get gaming back into my schedule since starting full time, so that's great. I got the platinum in Horizon: Zero Dawn, and have gone back to playing BF1, as well as Mayhem in OW (I'm not into the standard modes, they've never felt that fun to me).

For anyone that got this far, well done, when I make this I tend to just stream of consciousness the whole thing, so if you got through I hope you have a great day.

    • Another Week

      Yustin The Shadow

You ever had one of those weeks where you do a lot of stuff, but because it wasn't the typical stuff you do it feels weird, and a bit wrong?

Yeah, I've had one of those weeks. Half of it was normal work, nothing crazy overall, mostly creating report dashboards for managers. The second half though was odd. On Wednesday I found out the next day I was going to training (surprise!) for Docker, which admittedly was really into, but the short timeframe was a hell of a surprise. Definitely helped solidify some concepts I had encountered messing around with Docker, definitely makes me feel more comfortable with it all.

Then on Friday I spent all day with my fiancee, as she graduated from her Bachelor Degrees (yes plural) and was with her family. All in all it was an excellent day, but by comparison to a normal Friday it felt really weird. But it is always good to see all the people that put in effort getting recognized (as an aside my second graduation is in September, so WOOOO).

All in all though, things are going well. I've got training in place for ITIL certifications, VCP certifications, as well as some other orientations and more "casual" training along the line. Hoping to slip some training with with Chef or some other orchestration tool in there as well, although the power I have with vRealize Orchestrator is serving to give me some fun tools that other teams are starting to utilize to improve their workflows.

Oh, and my job has already seen an odd transition. Officially, my title is Jnr. Virtualisation Specialist, but at my Manager's request I now sit in on multiple team meetings to see how I can help with automation and reporting, so I'll take that as a positive that I am doing things well. So who knows, the training I attend could become even more varied very soon.

    • Happy Easter To All

Well, technically is the day before Easter Sunday, but most likely I will be busy tomorrow. So, early well wishing ahead.

Things are going well with me. I've been working for about a month, got involved in a variety of different elements within said work, am setting up to go on some training (and potentially even a a trip to Australia to learn more about OpenStack), and life in general has been pretty great.

So, all the best to you all, and hopefully things are well with you if you are reading this.

    • Still Kicking About

It may not seem like it, but I am still bouncing around this place. It's a bit harder to get involved in things, doubly so since Sponsor Chat really went the way of the dodo's over the past week (an aside https://discord.gg/XUu5t5K is where most of us have moved over to. Feel free to say hi).

Full time work has also impacted that, meaning by the time I get home most of the active community has gone and the spambots have taken over, but alas, that's not something that is gonna be fixed from a user end.

Since then though, I've managed to watch 2 movies. Beauty and the Beast was a great movie, it really was a great way of taking the original and improving it in many areas. Thoroughly enjoyed, and would definitely recommend to anyone who was worried about the live action Disney movies.

On the other hand just got back from Lego Batman (Yes it took over 2 months to make it down here) and I gotta say, aside from some great references it was a solid meh movie. I mean, it's not terrible, but it never really subverted its placement as a kids movie in the way the Lego Movie did, which feels like a shame.

EDIT: Well it seems like the Feeds have actually been quite good over the past few days. So credit where credit is due, congrats to the team for getting on tops of this. Hopefully it stays this way moving forward :)

Its really nice to be back to full time work. Its a bizarre sentiment, and I'm sure in a few months my thoughts will change, but for the time being its exciting, and I get to learn new stuff all the time.

With that said I am already making moves on professional training, so things are gonna be a net positive no matter what happen, and it'll all help towards the future. Also looks like I'm gonna get to do some AWS training, which is extra exciting as it is much more broad than the other stuff I'll be doing.

This journal may also read a bit stilted. That's most likely due to the fact I have managed to get sick already (2 days at work, new PB!), and boy it's been pretty rough. It has been some time since I was sick via something external to my control, and unfortunately it had to be now. On the plus side, I have great motivation to get in tomorrow as it is a pizza party to farewell a staff member, and the pizza we are getting is supppper good (Also may be somewhat biased, it's a chain with a place 2 minutes walk from my house.

And with that, I'm gonna finish up this video then hit the hay. Wooo, 8:40 bed time. Isn't adulting fun.

    • Onwards and Upwards

I wanna say the past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, but truth be told they have been quite boring. I've been spending my time working on skills for the workforce, but outside of that I haven't even had much drive to play videogames to any large extent.

But, with that said, yesterday (Friday) was an absolutely exciting day. Not only did I get another job offer from someone who saw me present what I got up to during my internship, I also received an official job offer, meaning within a week or two I'll be back being active! (that also makes the offer redundant, but I thought it was cool it came through on the same day).

My official title will be Junior Virtualization Specialist (they actually changed the role parameters a bit as they really wanted me back after my internship) and I'll initially be on a year contract, but all going well that would be renewed, and my title (and pay) would be updated to reflect that.

Honestly super excited, this is my first steps into a career, and it means a lot getting that first job in the market.

      Yustin The Shadow

It's all finished. My internship is completed, my reports are handed in and I did a presentation on what I got up to. What a ride. Now it's just a matter of waiting for results, as well as waiting for some phone calls in regards to what my job prospects are. But as it is things are looking positive, and the team I was with are very interested in having me back, so at the very least I got that going for me.

Beyond that, I have a lot of free time in my immediate future, and I gotta say after working a full working week for a long time the boredom really does set in quickly. I think to stave it off I'll spend some time improving my skills with the Docker platform (Containerization is a hot skill at current) as well as looking at more general things. Got a few areas in mind, but will have to see how that goes.

@Yustin I haven't been checking the FU spot lately, but I happened to scroll past it today and thought "oh hey, I've seen this guy around so I'll drop a congrats his way!" :D
