Finally have internet set up, a grand day, not for solely that reason however. I got my hands on the latest Dresden Files book (ghost story) last night.

I have never read a 500 page book in a handful of hours before, but I did with this and it sucks. Not even 24 hours since I got Ghost Story and I am already waiting on the next book.

      Anyways, good to be back.

So just got back from seeing transformers (bay finally got one right, it was amazing!) and had a little encounter on my way home.

Pitch black, roads deserted, I came off the highway into a giant nest of detour signs saying go left and go right. Confused me pulls over into the parking lot of a motel and pull out my phone's GPS to check my route.

Night Travel Rule #1: Never stop!

So I am cruising through the lot at 2 mph while checking my phone and noticed, by the mighty awareness given to me by a decade of paranoia and air force training, the brightly lit car in the dark lot with a man sitting inside eating a sandwich. We lock eyes for a moment before I pass by and accelerate out of the lot, my app finished loading. Two seconds later the same man, apparently an undercover officer, pulls me over. He runs my ID, ask me what I was doing in the parking lot, we part ways, all is well.

I was not doing anything wrong, but from the officers POV a man pulled into the lot, slowly drove in a circle, looked directly at him, started doing something on his phone, and proceeded to quickly leave.

As my instructors have said many a time, Perception is everything! So just remember when you are out and about, think of what it might 'look' like your doing before you do something.

      Hey everyone!

It is good to be back. I can barely believe it has been an entire year. Only eleven days left of my technical training and I am heading to my first base, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida.

      Zankaru

Finally got papers from the bloody clinic and took my ASVFAB test yesterday. My frustration at having to wait has changed to frustration with myself. I did not bother studying for it because I was lazy and now I am faced with these scores!

      AFQT - 92 of 99
      Mechanical - 92
      Administrative - 93
      General - 91
      Electronics - 84

If I had studied for even a single day I would have gotten perfect scores, gah, I want to go back in time and yell at myself. I suppose it is not all the bad though, the only job I can not do (based only on my ASVFAB scores, not counting EDPT scores) is something about 'applied geophysics' which sounds much too troublesome to bother with.

Currently studying for my upcoming EDPT test (Electronic Data Processing Test) which my recruiter told me, "I do not know anyone who passed it the first time". Coming out of his office I was all like 'I will actually study for this and the look on his face will be priceless', of course when I got home and looked it up my confidence got shot to death then used as a pinyata for children. Apparently one of the things it test you on is advanced algebra, FIGURES, my nemesis algebra rears its fanged head once again! It is becoming rapidly clear that me goofing off during my first three years of high school is never going to stop hurting me. *sigh*

      ~*~*~*~

I know I have fallen behind on alerts for the last week or so, but I do have a valid excuse. (Haha!)

Currently trying to get paperwork from the psych-clinic I went to 7 years ago that the air force apparently HAS to have for me to enlist, and its driving me up the walls! I mean honestly, I didn't even have any mental issues back then.... well in comparison.

Anyways, i've been studying all the academic stuff I will need to learn in basic. I know I don't need to study before going since I will be learning everything there, but I know what I will be learning and I HATE not preparing for something if I know a way to.

Along with that I have been working out a ton, not counting breaks for studying and eating, and my reading breaks, because there is no way I could survive not reading something each day. My addiction to fanfiction has only gotten worse in the last month, I am positive that I spend more time reading than I do sleeping. A trade that I look upon as fantastic. Unfortunately my reading speed has tripled in the last few weeks to the point that I could go through a 200 page book in a few hours. Im thinking that this could possibly be how fast I always read, but since most of my reading was during school when I had to read in between classwork, stuff lasted longer. This being something someone would be proud of let me tell you here and now that it FRAKING SUCKS! I have to find something that is more than 300,000 words so it last longer than a single day. Im at the point pulling out my hair is starting to become a real possibility. *sigh*

Im curious as to seeing everyones answers to the following questions, if you dont mind doing them. Should only take 5 minutes maybe. One of the questions is a trap/trick question, cookie to first who finds it.

      1. Have you ever been in love with someone?
      2. Have you ever been so angry you lost control?
      3. If you had the chance to get literally anything you can imagine, including making other people act a certain way, what would it be?
      4. Have you been to a friends wedding?
      5. Have you ever seen someone die?
      6. Do you think that war is always wrong no matter what, or that war can sometimes be justified?
      7. Do you openly share your feelings and opinions with those around you, or do you hide your emotions?
      8. Would you prefer being alone with your favorite hobby, or being with a friend doing absolutely nothing?
      9. Regardless of religious beliefs or lack there of. Would you prefer another life after death, or oblivion?
      10. Do you believe that there are things that someone can do and never be forgiven for? If yes, what would be one of them?

      Doctor #3 was kickass.

Noooo not an architect, perish the thought, I'm mainly doing this to help my Dad (you may remember he works as a surveyor and construction project manager). Also the prints are no longer blue these days... and I always associated blueprints more with patenting inventions and stuff...

So what's been happening with you since we last corresponded? Apart from training, I mean -- any big events, family stuff, anything. Drop me a P.M. when you get the chance, let me know.

    • DocRossim

I am a dirtboy (Pavement & Heavy Equipment), basically construction. They just call everyones training after Basic 'technical school'.
Surprisingly easy to my disappointment. I was hoping they were going to take me and train me into the ground until I wanted to quit, then keep going, but that never happened. Maybe it was just me, because out of the 52 people in my 'Flight' at basic, I was the only one who never said they wanted to quit or go home.
Other than that, no complaints really.

I think it's just that you're already way too badass. I mean, you think hard work is fun, I think it would take actually being pummelled into the ground to make you feel like you'd been pummelled into the ground.

Anyway, glad it's going well for you smiley1.gif
Funnily enough I'm not actually doing as much construction labour as I was -- working a lot on plans now (alterations and extensions mainly, drawing up plans of existing buildings that want extensions, that sort of thing, I'm not qualified to actually design a building myself, but work's work).

A bit late in responding but oh well. The Malazan series and Martin's do have many similarities. Giant cast of well written characters intersecting along myriad of storylines that are leading up to something big. Brutal realism and not afraid to kill off characters. But Martin who doens't use much in the form of the supernatural or "magic" While malazan is much more like the Forgotten Realms with many gods and goddesses and demons and other magic shit. Erikson's style is a little weird at first and may put you off at first but either his style is getting better or i'm just getting used to it but i'm liking the series more and more with each book. So far i would highly recommend it.

I made an extremely logical, but insanely stupid decision a while back. I form emotional bonds with friends that are strong enough that it is physically painful for me when I cant see them for a while. So the idea of getting together with someone romantically, then having to leave them when I graduated and moved out of state (most likely) seemed stupid. It has taught me a valuable lesson though, always a silver lining.

You have physical pain related to missing someone? Hmm... this reminds me of a condition where people have cross-wired senses. Synesthesia, I think it's called, and they see sound or smell words, etc. If you feel physical symptoms to emotional pain, maybe it's something like that.

      Im curious questions
      1. I guess its never a good idea to hesitate when it comes to matters like these. Have you gotten over it, or does it still hurt? *sigh*, really shouldnt have asked this question, brings up bad memories.

I've gotten over both girls. Mainly because they never stayed in touch as friends, so they wern't even that good at being friends. I've also grown more... well, I guess I've come to terms with the idea that someone, somewhere will always be alone (in terms of romantic love) and if it turns out that I'm one of those people, so be it. I can live without romance and sex. Hell, I can't even feel sex, so it's not like that matters.

      2. Junior Schook, seems likes alot of people are like that around this age. Secondary School, its ironic that you did this to not hurt someone while actually hurting someone. Well if I were you I wouldnt let myself feel bad about what you did in secondary. Heck knows we have all done things as a kid that we hate, its just part of being a kid.
I guess I'm just the sort of person who never forgives themselves for anything. I catch myself sometimes reciting a conversation that I had years ago as if I'm trying to change how it went, change what I said or what I did.

      3. Completely reasonable, however I disagree with one thing. Dragon shapeshifting would not be 'cool', it would be bloody awesome!
Indeed. Although I'd actually like to change my answer now.
I think that I would like to go back to key moments in my life and change all the stupid, hurtful, careless or thoughtless things I've done in my life -- kind of like Sam Becket in Quantum Leap but for my own personal wrongs-to-put-right. That would not only mean that people I know were no longer negatively affected by my presence, but would also mean I'd have fewer emotional issues today, so it's win-win.

      5. -
I've seen people who are terminally ill, I've seen people on the news who are dead or dying, although I doubt that actually counts as it's not first hand, but I've never seen anyone actually pass away.

      6. What a surprise (sarcasm), I agree with you on all of that. Except the not killing someone part, anyone is capable of anything given the right circumstances.
Okay then, let me rephrase that as: It would take very, very, very exceptional circumstances for me to bring myself to kill anyone. I respect those that can do it as their duty.

      8. It was supposed to be just hanging out with them and talking, etc. You know what I meant! =)
      I'm not a mind reader.
Okay, in that case... I don't know. I guess it depends on what I've been doing before then. If I've seen my friends every day and we have nothing else to talk about, then the hobby, if I've been cooped up in my room working on hobbies and feel the need for human contact, then hanging out with a friend.

      9. You would truly prefer oblivion? Thats a surprise, although being a guardian angel would be awesome....maybe. Anytime I think about what it would be like not existing I realise that I wouldnt exist, so I couldnt feel anything. Thats the one thing that scares me the most.
I guess I just fear eternal damnation more than I fear a total lack of existence, and know I could never enjoy heaven, so unless I was doing something useful to make up for my sins, I'd rather just fade away into nothingness and be done with existence altogether. It's not like I enjoy being alive really -- I spend most of my free time distracting myself from the fact of my own existence after all.

    • TheTaco007

      1. n/c
      2. Glad to hear that. =)
      3. I guess that would depend on you own brand of logic. Do you mean all types of conflict or only violence?
      4. Aye
      5. No, animals aint people, silly.
      6. I agree with you. Well thats logical, if not cynical.
      7. Its not everyday you meet someone that is not self-centered. Thats how I used to be, has its ups and downs.
      8. Lol, ya know hobbies are supposed to be something you enjoy doing.
      9. Haha, same here. *grin*
      10. Awesome answer, but you went a broke my question, should have worded it differently.

      3. I mean I would dispense with people's strange need to be assholes for no apparent reason.
      6. I am very cynical.
      7. Don't get me wrong, you could use my ego is so big that you could use my head as a blimp, but I don't talk about it a lot.
      8. Guess I just haven't found the right one yet.
      10. I would make a good lawyer.

not any time soon, no. i let them know who i was, and i made it clear that i had no plans of rejoining the group for a good long while.

it isn't water under the bridge when your closest friends, the people i thought were truely exceptional and different, turn on you as fast as they did. i once thought they were great, but now? they're just like everyone else. drained of ambition and scared of taking action. they showed me that they lack an understanding of true urgency.

    • ArmorPlated

yeah, i quit. an emergency situation popped up, i took immediate action. the others didn't agree with the choice i made and decided to start a bunch of petty arguing. they would have preferred to form a committee to solve an extreme-risk situation, rather than someone take action and THEN everyone figures things out.

nothing i did was permanent, but they still decided to flame me. at that point I got rid of my old profile and made this one after a little while. i haven't restored contact with any of the persecuting {sensor} asshats since though.

ZZ: Your crazy for having that many people on watch, unless only twenty or so are active. In my opinion, once you get past thirty on watch checking up on alerts becomes more of a job than fun.
DRS: My crazy what for having that many people on watch, unless only twenty or so are active though?
(or do you mean "You're crazy" as in "You are crazy"?)
As it happens, less than half my watchlist post regularly. I watch all my friends, I watch all the staff members and I watch a bunch of various community members who do arty stuff or occasionally post interesting things or make videos or are a thread admin or something like that.

ZZ: Oh. Hmm, I think I may be too competitive since I assumed it was a ranking list right away.
DRS: Perhaps. Probably the fact that there was an a, b and c list might have suggested some kind of ranking.
In fact, I hold people on list "c" higher than list "b" -- list "c" people arn't online to talk to me, but list "b" people are online often but can't be bothered to drop me a line, even when I comment on their stuff.

a bit of both. my legs don't really work anymore but I wouldn't try to join again anyways now that I've got a steady girl.

ZZ: You have 64 people on watch?! Blood and ashes, your crazy!
      DRS: My crazy what?

ZZ: Just do what I do: take a break! Otherwise, the only reason you should be on here is if your having fun, if you do stay though Ill still be here.
DRS: Yeah, but taking a break just makes alerts pile up, and you never know which are important.

ZZ: Ahhh man, I didnt get the top spot on list A. *sigh*
DRS: That's because I didn't meet you first, I met you after Cody and Miya but before the rest of the list. At least, according to the order of my friends list.
