anime boston was really fun!!
fun fact about this photo: I was in so much pain from the belt underneath my corset and danielle from her totally busted knees that we were taking shots from malibu nips in that room behind us and we look dazed and happy in the photos because the pain is finally subsiding
danielle (vaporeon) won an award for attention to detail in cosplay and we all ended up on MTV's website!
yeah it was p cool
ALSO this is just a weird heads up type thing but I'm taking commissions for custom kigurumis! wear a onesie styled after your favorite character because you're an adult and you can! message me if you want about it but i'll do a journal regarding it in a bit

I live about 8 miles from the coast in South-Eastern Connecticut. Weather sites predicted that we would be roughly 30 - 75 miles outside of the eye of the storm, reaching wind speeds of around 40 - 50 mph with gusts up to 80. I took a predictably lazy approach to the storm, thinking it would be similar to last year's Irene (stocked up, didn't lose power, spend a grueling 6 hours playing trivial pursuit and wondering where my life went wrong).
I moved the lawn furniture and recycling bins into the garage, turned the wrought iron bar chairs onto their side, and covered up the grill. I filled a few aluminum bottles with water and put them in the fridge, and filled the brita filter. Bought cat food, chips, and a case of beer.
Good, I think to myself, look at me. I'm an adult. I prepared for the storm.
I hope you're prepared for a story.
I wake up on Monday morning and it's bone dry outside, and barely windy at all. I thought murder to myself while getting dressed for work because I don't want to go. At 8:17, the store decides to shut down. Someone tapes X's over all the glass windows and doors, and places sandbags against all the exits. I get in my car to go home. The wind is blowing so hard that I risk toppling over at every curve. The highway is a parking lot and I get off the first exit and weave through route 1 and the backroads to try to get home (which takes me almost an hour).
For the first few hours, it can't decide whether to rain or not. It drizzles. It pours. It stops abruptly and the sun comes back out. But all the while, the wind is raging and that's what, it turns out, is so damn dangerous about hurricanes and tropical storms. We play WoW for several hours. I nap. I wake up and make dino nuggets, pour a glass of wine, and we smoke a little from our new tiny bong. We start playing WoW again. It's about 4:48. My mom calls and we converse a little. Abruptly, I hear a little click, and everything shuts off.
We lost power. I hang up with my mom, realizing I did not charge my phone at all and pandora had been open and I was at 21% battery. Amazing.
I hear a very loud thump. I peek out the back door to see this
Sandy, you vile whore.
It hit my car and rolled off the front into the garage. Took out our little garbage can fence too. Rude.
My poor car.
There's nothing I can do. I waste some more phone battery to call my mom and tell her.
We bump around the house and light candles. We get our DS's (which I mercifully remembered to charge that morning) and play pokemon for a few hours. We eat some chips. I open the fridge for a few brief moments to retrieve a can of dip, a bottle of soda, a bottle of water, and 4 bottles of beer. We talk for many hours. I get a book and try to read while holding a candle in my hand. I burn my fingers like 6 times and give up. I get bored and drink 3 of the beers very quickly. I stayed up looking out the window watching the sky flash like bombs going off - transformers blowing. Crazy shit. I get too drunk and go upstairs to bed at 10:30.
We wake up. Still no power.Fuck.
The storm is, however, not as scary right now. We get dressed and go outside to see if there's an obvious reason we have no power. Lucky us - about 5 houses down........
This motherfucker cracked in half and took down at least 2 lines. There were 3 but I think one of them was just a cable line.
We walked by later that day and the neighbors had hacksaws and clippers and were tearing the tree apart and stacking it on the curb in the hopes of getting UI out to look at the line quicker.
just look at this bullshit.
But wait! There's more!
We tried to drive just out by Best Buy to see how it fared.
It was impossible
to get fucking anywhere
We had to go all the way down the road, cross over on like the one street that didn't have downed trees, and come all the way back up. I didn't get pictures but an enormous tree fell and ripped down powerlines on both sides of the street, and another fell and took out two lines and blew a transformer on the other street. The entire area is still without power as of this writing.
We go home and move the tree off my car.
took out my butterfLY BUSHES FUCK
inspecting the ripped gutter, how nice
The day passes slowly and shittily. We go out and get food. We go to the Danbury Best Buy with a friend. I buy the professor layton game. I go home to play it and the gameboy dies within 45 minutes. The house grows steadily colder. I light candles again and we walk to a deli on main street that has power back for some food.
(Now that I remember, I put half the sandwich in the freezer because the fridge wasn't cold anymore. It's probably still in there. Frozen cheese. Fantastic.)
We go to bed around 9 for lack of something to do. I lay in bed being irritated at missing a day of headless horseman for a good 2 hours.
The next morning, still no power omfg. My car is functioning though and the storm is well over. I get dressed with a flashlight and go to work. When I get home at like 4:15, there is a cherrypicker working on the line!!!
I sit on the curb and eat my boston market. I cheer with everyone else when all the lights suddenly come on in our homes.

This is probably gonna be pretty long. FYI.
NYCC had really really great parts this year and really really disappointing and awful parts. We'll start with the good so as not to ruin the post too early in.
I cosplayed Liliana of the Veil which was really fun!
I was also with Jace, Lady Loki, and God Tier Dave. :o)
(I have no idea why our poor Jace's face is like.. sucked in here!)
We got stopped by professional photographers and news outlets which was really exciting and stuff.
We also got to stop and say hi to Adam West and the boxer Butterbean (who was a GIANT SWEETIE PIE omg).
No, I didn't wait in Tom Felton or Sean Astin's absolutely massive line.
I bought tons of stuff.
The Adventure time thing is a bathrobe, the rolled up poster is a map of the entire Game of Thrones world (not just the seven kingdoms). The pin on the bag says Gandalf for President. The other bag slides onto your belt instead of using a strap. It is my dream to never pay full price for Death Note - I've gotten almost the whole thing from cons.
My friend was working at the Jerry's Artarama booth where you could draw with these markers and they would give you two free ones. My friend just kept handing me markers?? (They're nice, they're supposed to be comparable to copics.) The mega man things are air fresheners. The ghostbusters one in my car is almost entirely faded out now.
We Didn't Playtest This At All is an insanely fun and quick game and gets very, very funny especially drunk. I highly recommend it. The orange bracelet has the aperture logo on it and says Test Subject; my best friend has the blue one.
Also these cute tiny dice.
So.. the bad I guess?
The IGN Theatre was a huge disaster. People got to the doors at 8:00 in the morning and reserved seats for the entire day. Then a line formed just in case those people didn't show up, so they could take their seats. Basically - if you got to the con after 9 am, you were not going to see a single panel in that theatre. Point Blank. I was REALLY upset as I wasn't aware of this weird booking thing going on, and I was dying for the Firefly panel. I was even more upset (I started crying actually but don't mind me) when fukcing NATHAN FILLION, SEAN MAHER, AND JEWEL STAITE SHOWED UP ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????????????
It was just really disappointing and if they plan on pre-booking seats in the future, you should be able to select only ONE when purchasing your ticket and that's the end of that. People camping the theatre all day was completely shitty.
Also we went to the tabletop gaming area and there was absolutely no magic going on because apparently Wizards "pulled out". So, with no judges and no prize support... nobody was playing. Sucks, as that is a major part of cons for us.
So we didn't end up seeing any panels because other than the firefly one, none was really interesting enough for us to stand in an hour long line to ~maybe~ get in. I can't really find room to complain about it, it's just the nature of there being 150,000 people streaming through the convention center, but we didn't want to remember NYCC as being a series of giant lines.
Oh yeah, I also saw Rush on the Wednesday prior. That happened.

NYCC was a blast! I managed to crack my phone and break two toes on Sunday.
I cosplayed Liliana of the Veil with a Jace Beleren and a Lady Loki, and I have a few pictures. We made it into some local news articles too.
I bought a ton of stuff and we pretty much survived on Ramen, Bibimbap and Pizza (surprising amount of Korean food in that area). I'll post a more detailed post later but I'm really hungry and still trying to recuperate even though I have to hobble around work with taped up toes and an ACE bandage on my foot.

These cupcakes are good on a "not ashamed to eat them at 8 in the morning" level.
Mine don't look quite so photogenic because I am a disaster with a frosting bag oh my god it just goes everywhere
As an aside though i'd like to start a blog about.. idk geek crafting including baking, cooking, sewing etc both to encourage me to do something interesting and new once a week and so i can make videos that are 90% me talking to my cat and laying on the floor. Because contrary to popular belief, I spend time making really neat stuff.

My best friend and I got matching tattoos yesterday
She's not awake yet so I don't have her half but I think you'll get the gist from mine :o)
She has the blue one (obviously)! It's also really hard to take a picture of your own forearm so I'll have someone take a picture of both tonight and just put it in my pictures.
We've been best friends since 8th grade (almost 8 years) and while we're both gamers, there's only a few games we've both played to a crisp - and this is probably the only one we actually played together! (Except Donkey Kong Country for Wii but that one almost broke up our friendship so we don't talk about it anymore)
In other almost exciting news, I've been getting much better at detail work on plushies and I want to progress from using someone else's pattern to make a great one to using my own pattern to make a mediocre one.
If someone could give me some ideas (I've been thinking I'll start with Avatar creatures; maybe a Pabu??) that would be really helpful and maybe if I use your idea I'll mail you one :O)
