Okay. So I was going to use this journal to go into detail on how one of my friends decided to betray my trust and lie over a large sum of money, but considering recent events, I'll leave it for another time. So for my small saga of journal entries, I'm going to start off with something that is pretty big in my life.

With my recent promotion to Inspector this also brings my official work status to 'full time'. For the past four years, I've been working with the 'casual' status next to my name. As a casual, I would get paid more than the full timers. I could ask for any day off or cancel my shift(s) and I wouldn't be refused. So, with these awesome working conidtions attached to being casual, why would I give it up?

Because casual workers don't get sick leave, annual leave or any other type of leave. Plus there is no job security or guaranteed shifts. However, I wasn't worried about either of those. The casino running out of patrons would be like World of Warcraft running out of gaming nerds. It's just not going to happen.

While I have yet to actually do a shift as an Inspector, I am both qualified and licensed to stand there and watch other people do my job for me. My new position will include making sure all the dealers in my area deal the games to proper procedure, adding up the chips on the tables (just by looking at them), keeping track of how much money players bought in for (the total amount of cash they gamble away) and keep track of all the big chips and know where they are.

      Sounds easy doesn't it?

I'm a little scared. In the end it's such a big responsibility and I'm going to be doing it on m y own. For my last three weeks of training, I always had another Inspector hanging around me, watching and making sure I'm doing everything right. It's the same thing I've been doing for the last three weeks. The only difference is I have no one to help me out if when I fuck up.

      Tis a daunting thought

Also, there is another confirmed member for my Comic Con expedition next year

And Marge Simpson posing for Playboy? WTF?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is my 500th journal entry here on Rooster Teeth.

And I've clocked up 40 days, 22 hours and 7 minutes of time on this site since registering.

I have had 8,645 profile views

I have had 9,143 journal views

I really don't know what to type for something that I consider such a milestone, yet utterly pointless in any location other than my laptop.

So I shall start by saying this.

      I passed my inspector training

And I have a strange man from Sydney sleeping on my couch.

You meet a lot of people on the internet. There is the aforementioned Sydney person and only one other that I keep in regular contact with....and he has yet to sleep on my couch. In fact he has yet to leave his country.

So what have I done in the last 500 journal entries. Finished my schooling, got a job, got a girlfriend, lost a job, lost a girlfriend, got a new job, went up to Sydney for Animania and Supanova several times, got another girlfriend, lost that one, travelled overseas, met somebody and botched up a chance at a third relationship. However for that one to work I would have had to move over there. Which I'm not ready to do......yet anyway.

So, to celebrate 500 journal entries I'm going to go on a spiel over the next six about various things that make a difference in my life. Some good, a couple bad. But I want to type them out just because I can.

      Here's to another 500!

I need to waste a journal entry. So here are the current stats for a trip to Comic Con and the US next year.

      2 people confirmed
2 people undecided (but now with tickets)
      1 people probably not attending
1 people possibly be attending, but bringing his own group, however still undecided as far as I'm concerned.

Places of interest (aside from CC) are Disneyland, Universal Studios, New York, Las Vegas and Maine.

      Best start saving

    • Stargate Universe

I really don't know what to type here.

I was planning on some spiel on how awesome the Stargate franchise has become, what with the start of it's third series and all.

But then I realized that probably only one.....maybe two people will actually be reading this. (you being the first, you being the second...and maybe you if you check the site when you get home). And I expect there will be just as many comments.

Anyway, Stargate Universe is a breath of fresh air into the lungs of the Stargate franchise. With the cancellation of SG1 in 2007 and Atlantis at the beginning of this year, it's good to see a brand new series being produced.

I have high hopes for this series, although I can't help but wonder how long it will last.

So I'm in my second week of training now. And I'm starting to get the hang of it. The first day of training was sitting down with one of our many managers and going through EVERYTHING that one would have to know as an Inspector. There was paperwork, counting floats, tracking people, balances, and a whole lot more than I ever expected. And then on the second day, we had to 'shadow.' Which means we would follow other Inspectors round, watch them and do what they do. I was shocking that day. My counts were all wrong, I lost track of how many big chips (ie: $100 and $500 chips) everyone had.

But now I'm into week 2 and I'm getting better. Counting the floats is easier. Instead of being several thousand dollars off I'm now only a few hundred off. And this is perfectly acceptable when it comes to passing this information onto the pit bosses seeing as how it's only a few chips.

In other newses (and yes, I know I typed that) I have just proved how awesome I am to my two of my friends....even though they don't realize it yet. But they will. They'll see it soon....and they'd better enjoy it *shakes fist*

    • ODST. It's.....different

      Zorel

So I have finished Halo ODST. Overall, it was a decent game. You play as a rookie in an elite squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers as they're about to leave on a mission. The squad is dropped in pods above New Mombassa to destroy a Covenant carrier. As they deploy, the carrier enters slip space and vanishes from the city. This carrier and event has been confirmed to be that which occurred in Halo 2, the Prophet of Regret flying his ship away from Earth early on in the game. Master Chief, Sgt Johnson and Miranda Keys follow Regret in their ship, In Amber Clad. ODST tells the story of what happens after this event.

You character, referred only as The Rookie, crashes his pod after colliding with another and is knock unconscious for 6 hours. After he wakes up, it's the middle of the night and the rest of the squad is scattered around the city. As he travels through the city, he picks up beacons from his miss squad mates. However these are more discarded or destroyed pieces of equipment rather than actual 'beacons.' Upon finding these beacons, the game 'flashbacks' to a certain squad member who was in this situation and you can then play that squad member. These flashbacks fill in the story for you and they explain what happened while you were unconscious in the pod.

The storyline is solid. The music is superb. Martin O'Donnell has done it again with a fantastic score. It gives you that eerie feeling as you walk though the abandoned city at night. I still prefer Halo 3 to ODST however.

My biggest issue with this game is continuity. I love it when a smaller story falls into place with the bigger one. However this is not the case with this game. As I said, Regret's carrier vanishes into slip space at the start of the game, an event that took place in Halo 2. By the end of ODST, it's morning and the sun is rising. At this point, more Covenant ships have arrived. This is no doubt the beginning of the invasion and attack force that you have to fight in Halo 3...and that you see at the conclusion of Halo 2. However, I doubt that the events that took place in Halo 2 would have taken place in one night. A full day, maybe. But not one night. In today's world of 'lightspeed' and 'hyperspace' in movies, it would still take ages to travel between Earth and the ring world in Halo 2. And all the events which take place in Halo 2, again. I doubt it would all be in one night.

My biggest problem is with Sgt Johnson. He makes a cameo appearance at the end of the game, after the credits. In the final level, you and a squad mate find an Engineer, an alien species forced to work for the Covenant that have an uncanny ability to fix things. These aliens appear frequently in the tie-in novels and I'm glad that Bungie finally put them into the game. The scene after the credits says it's takes one month after the end of ODST. Sgt Johnson is being escorted to interview and extract information from the Engineer. And the Engineer lights his cigar for him. Now at the end of Halo 2, Master Chief is in a Covenant controlled ship (that belonged to the Forerunners) approaching Earth. A massive battle can be seen above orbit. At the beginning of Halo 3, Master Chief crashes into the African jungle. When he wakes up, Sgt Johnson is there to fill him in. I don't think that those two events could have a month between them. Maybe if it was 'Later that day' perhaps. But not a month. No way

Bungie, I enjoyed ODST, but you really should work on your continuity. However, Firefight is awesome!

Ok. A bowl of Sultana Bran does not help you 'fight the fuzzies' or in fact help keep you more alert. Big surprise. During my first day of training I found it a little difficult to pay attention and even a yawn or two slipped out later on in the day. But there is so much stuff that I never even knew. It goes way deeper than I imagined. All previous Inspectors only had a day's training. I've got three weeks. And I don't think even that will be long enough.

However, it's all good. Because tonight I went down to my local shopping mall for the midnight release of Halo 3: ODST!

My shiny new copy is sitting in my room, still wrapped in it's plastic bag. I shall not play it until after my training tomorrow night. I'd wake up a little earlier to play it, but I need sleep...and I have something else to do.

      Hooray for Priorities!

I don't suspect that many of you non-aussies have seen this ad.

I see a box of this cereal in my cupboard this morning and pour myself a bowl. After reading the back of the box and looking up the ad on youtube, I want to see this research. So this ad claims that if you eat any other cereal then you won't be able to focus as much as would if you were to eat this one. So I'm putting my body on the line for science here.

I saw District 9 last night (awesome film, loved it) and I didn't end up getting to bed until a little after 1 am. As I dozed off, I was thinking about the film and how awesome it was. But I woke up a couple of times during the night and proceeded to check my arm (if you haven't seen the film, you wont understand) and I ended up getting around 6 hours or so of sleep. Today I begin my first day of Inspector training. For the next three weeks, I have four shifts a week for just training. I have consumed a bowl of said cereal for breakfast. Will I be able to stay focused throughout the day? Depending on my results, we may have to get the Mythbusters in to test this theory of staying alert when you eat this particular cereal. That is if they're finished building massive lego balls

I also completed Assassin's Creed yesterday, getting the full 1000 points and all 44 achievements. Tonight when I finish my training I am going to jump on Xbox Live and play some Halo 3 online to prepare for ODST tomorrow. I'll buy it before work, keep it in my locker all day in anticipation. When I get home, I'll play it in glorious high definition. Nathan Fillion is your commanding officer. How much more awesome can it be?

One final thought. Why would anyone put tv commercials on the internet? Isn't there enough ads on there already?

    • This shit just got serious

      Zorel

A few journals ago, I mentioned that something had 'happened.' While I will not elaborate on what this is, it's just gotten worse.

No, not worse. That's the wrong word. I'm going to go with.....difficult.

Now, this issue came to my attention shortly after returning home from the US, while I have told no one of this or it's nature, it's gotten harder to bear as of this morning.

Now I've had a couple of people ask me what this issue is exactly (all but one though PMs on the site). To those people I say...WTF?

You aren't on my friend's list. I don't even know you. Why the fuck would you ask me about something that I won't even tell the people I do know?

Now that that's out of the way, this issue will not go away overnight. It's going to hang around me for months, maybe years. Now I do not see this as a bad thing. In fact I quite like it. It's just hard to live with at the present time, being unable to actually do anything about it.

So, to everyone who has asked. Stop asking. I'm not going to tell you. Maybe, just maybe I might spill the beans one day. But don't go holding your breath. If you do want to know, then I'll have to know you well enough to know that I can trust you

The only way you can get Super Tails is by playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles. You have to play as Tails, then collect all the chaos emeralds. After that, you then have to collect all the super emeralds. Once you do that, just collect 50 rings, and fly. Then Super Tails is born!

      It's lots of fun.
