Well... Is there?
I haven't been here in a VERY long time (73 million internet years by my count... I really ought to be looking for internet fossils around here). Just noticed someone I know from here on xBox live (who I also haven't spoken too in years) and it made me think of this place... Looked it up and who knew? It still exists!

So... Gotta vent... Here is my iPhone sega:
Jailbroke my iPhone 4 using redsn0w... It worked fine (I guess... Took it awhile but it went pretty smoothly.
Got MyWi 4.0 for tethering since i have no internet at my house. The 3 day trial worked great... So I tried to buy the full version for $20. It took FOREVER via EDGE (all I have at my house and no real internet is available) but it finally went though and installed. Then it said "requires reboot" and promtly rebooted without giving me a chance to stop it. The jailbreak however is tethered.. Meaning it needs a PC with redsn0w to boot... Which I had on my computer. At work
Fortunetly I remembered that I had cleverly burned this and the MASSIVE iphone firmware to a CD... I went out in the snow and ice to my car at 11pm and managed to find the CD... What a lifesaver! Put everything on my PC at home and tried to put it...
No luck.. It kept freezing partway though and there was no making it do anything else. So I went ot restore it.. Only to discover iTunes required an internet connection to do a restore dispite the fact that I HAD THE FIRMWARE ON CD!
Ghey. Massively, Massively ghey.
So I went to bed.
This morning (when I am supposed ot be celibrating my birthday) instead I took my non functioing phone, my CD, cables and my sister POS laptop (my laptop runs linux so it won't work and my windows pc is a desktop) to the libary to give iTunes the internet it assumes that all people should be equipped with. Booted the phone in recovery mode and went to install my firmware off CD so I could avoid the massive download only to find that the CD drive is MIA... The computer is not even recognizing that there is a DRIVE let alone a disk... So... I bite my lip and download the 700 some-MB fire... 40 minutes later: "iTunes cannot restore this iPhone. An unknown error has occured"
W. T. F
So... As a last ditch effort I try downloading iTunes 10 or whatever the latest version is... It takes 1.5 HOURS to install... I was sure it was frozen several times.... So.. FINALLY it installs and I go to attempt another restore... Nope.. It wants to download the stupid file AGAIN! So I try a custom restore and manually browse to the file ITS not fucking there. The goddamm iTunes installer deleted it.
So now i am downloading it AGAIN.
Somebody please shoot me.

So as those of you who saw my last journal may already know I have purchased a house near Slade, KY. Slade is home the the natural bridge state park as well as a portion of the Daniel Boone national forest and Cliffty Wilderness national monument... This area features hundreds of natural stone arches, the red river, cliffs ranging from a couple foot drops to hundreds of feet EVERWHERE and has beene called the rock climbing capitl of the world. Wildlife includes obvious stuff like deer as well as bears and even the occasional mountain lion. My house is just outside the "city" in an unicorparated area called Zoe. Much of the property is bordered by 60+ft cliffs and the area below the cliffs, on the other side of the road and just generally nearby consists of tens of thousands of acres of a combination of undeveloped private land (mostly) and some largely unused national forest land... Thus the isolation in many places is not even disturbed by the usual contingent of tourists and rock climbers... There are even some old growth areas with trees 6-8th in diameter... Needless to say I spend a lot of time exploring this area and being massive I use my jeep most of the time... I have discovered a number of ponds abandoned structures and other interesting features (the area featured at least one factory a railroad and 60+ houses around 100 years ago but this stuff is long abandoned or removed). Here are some pictures from my most recent trip (click to embigify):
First pic of the day... I was heading down a trail I had never explored and decided to stop so my dog could hop out for a drink at the creek that was there... She walked in the water to ensure that she was good and wet by the time she got back in but showed no interest in actually drinking any of the water. Incidentally I left my iPhone 4 in the bed of the jeep... Which of course has no tailgate. Fortunately I noticed it missing soon and was able to locate it by walking back until my Bluetooth headset connected to it. This would have made the second of my iPhones to be claimed by these woods as I lost a 32gb 3GS there once :(
I continued deeper into the woods taking turns at random and passing the inconguios site of some loser looking guys on 4 wheelers that had somehow managed to secure a small contingent of really hot females... They did not appear to be captives given their smiles and friendly waves (while the losers glowered) but I guess you never know. Eventually I came to an abandoned structure... This one newer looking than many of the others... It appeared to have been a pump house for some of the many oil wells in the area:
The pump was once served by 100a 3 phase 480v service and was probably about 30hp... The motor has been removed though.
From there it was only a few hundred feet to one of the nicest ponds I have found so far:
It is large, clean and FULL of fish... It is obviously artificial (because it was formed in a dammed up valley, has the remains of a cement spillway and there are no natural ponds of any size in this state) but who built it an why are a mystery... Especially confounding given that it is some miles to the nearest road.
I parked the jeep in the old spillway (now blocked off by a beaver damm):
To the right you can see my dog Arrow... On the run as usual.
The water was clear and inviting... Sadly it was a bit too cold to swim (for me anyway... Arrow plunged in without a second though).
There was even the rotting remains of some metal dock type thing:
Sadly it was soon time to leave... I marked the spot on my gps so I will be able to find my way back... Hopefully with jet ski :D
This was the last pic before leaving:
Anyone else have any interesting trips to share?

Reach was AWESOME... I am sure that some people will complain about one thing or another because it is different in some ways from the original. For example the scale is much larger (including a space battle and a gun large enough to kill a phantom in one hit EASILY), the variety of vehicles is amazing, there are a huge number of armor specializations, etc. I, however, felt that all of these changes were positive as the audience learned with each new game allowing for a greater level of complexity without slowing down the pace or hurting the playability.
Other highlights include:
Dark and gritty story with great dialog (I love dark type endings).
Killer chapter names which refer to dialog from previos games (for example: "I need a weapon" and "protocol dictates action!"... It may seem like a small detail but it brings back great memories from previous games and show Bungie pays attention to it's roots.
Only downside I can think of would be the space battle: it's quite fun but very unrealistic: a real space battle would occure at speeds to great for a human operator to control and distances to far way to actually SEE your targets. Morever a host of hard to cromprehend issues would come into play such as avoiding tiny space debris, turning slow enough to NOT kill you and avoiding trajectories which have you escaping or falling into the planets gravity well.

Hopefully I will be on more frequently now.
The TL;DT (too long; didn't type) version of a full update:
Bought a house and 14 acres in a fairly remote region... Its cool.
Found an awesome (and really rare) 1 ton 4x4 van to compliment my jeep... It awesome for camping in the woods.
Still have the Jeep... Been driving the crap out of it on the local 4x4 trails
Got a little Chevy Caviler Z24 for commuting... Sadly its growing on my because its comfortable and has cruise and AC.
Still working at Lexel. Work is fun and pays well.
Working on the house like crazy... Putting in a big garage
Fooling around with the idea of building electric motors and controllers for vehicles
Got an iPhone 4... I can't live without it at this point
Got a 4 wheeler and already rolled it about 6 times down a hill breaking my hand in 3 places. The 4 wheeler was fortunately (mostly) undamaged.
Plans for world domination are on schedule. Apparently it will involve Gerbils.
What up with the RvB people (if there are any left)?
Oh yeah: Halo Reach@12:01!!!!!!1111 Yes I will be up all night... I had my vacation day planned a month in advance... :D
Now off to best buy to wait in line....
