      Hey guys hows life?

Yeah I have not posted in this forum since dinosaur times in internet years... I think there were still some iPod minis roaming the earth in the final days of my E-life here. I am a relic... But anyway... On to the topic at hand:

In an unfortunate incident, that could be accompanied by a long and awesome story but will not be because I think most people I know here are gone and thus no one will care, I lost my brand new 32gb iPhone 3GS in the woods (oh the horror!)... I had a back up iPhone but its only an 8gb 3g so I am sort of in the market and am looking for opinions from the oh-so-educated masses of tech forum inhabitants as to what device should replace it. I am a heavy portable tech user and as far as features go if it has it I'll use it. Here are the things it MUST have:
Everything the 32GB iPhone had including a phone because carrying TWO devices is something people did in the aforementioned internet dinosaur times.
      Better than the 32GB iPhone.
I am not planning on buying immediately because the near future seems rife with new offerings and I would pretty much be stuck buying ANOTHER 32GB iPhone if I bought now... So here are the contenders:
Apple tablet (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me they are including a phone?!)
Microsoft's answer to the Apple tablet (I even saw a mocked up video... It looked super cool... Ditto on including a phone)
Google's answer to the Apple tablet (I know nothing about this other than that it might be coming)
The next gen iPhone to be annouced in June maybe?
      Something else

Clue me in: Which device will be better and why? More importantly what other devices are there in the pipeline I don't know about that I should consider? Links would be much appreciated if you can find them. Thanks!

Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill noted that at the start of the TARP program, the heads of the major U.S. banks were summoned to Washington and told they were required to take the money so that those who needed it would not be stigmatized. -ABC News.

Deception much? This is an outrage... The government ACTUALLY REQUIRED banks to take money that would then be used to subject them to greater regulation. Furthermore the STATED PURPOSE of this was to deceive the American public as to the health of certain banks?!

Our government sinks to new lows... Almost everything that goes on in Washington these days is simply criminal on a scale that no Ponzi Scheme could ever hope to achieve. This system needs more than reform: Its needs top top bottom replacement and criminal convictions for most of them.

This morning I was searching a news search engine for news about Ford (the car company) something which is do pretty much every day (I am thinking of buying stock). I find this article in the results... Partially curious how that got in news results for Ford and partially because my mom knew someone (an idiot) who got a Fen-Phen settlement I clicked... Turns out the womans name is Angela Ford and that how that got in there... More interestingly the article mentions that she is dating a Lexington Lawyer named Sam Perkins. Sam is a friend of mine so I thought it was pretty wierd to just randomly see his name in a news search for something as unrelated as Ford Motor Company so I headed over to his facebook page to mention this to him onyl to see he has JUST posted a link to the very same article. Small world!

    • Iran.

For the first time ever I have to say I am ashamed to live in this country. I am also highy dissappointed in both my government and my fellow citizens for their response on Iran. The people of this country are are fighting and dying in the streets for their freedom. These people have no real ideology behind them, no organized moral message and no chance against the armed might of the Iranian government... They are simply crying out for a life free from oppresion and terror.
So what IS the most powerful country in the history of the world doing? A country in command of forces so formidible that they could literally detroy the entire world on a whim? A country I might add the PURPORTS to be a becon of hope and freedom? Well.. Recently we got this from the looney bin in DC:

“The United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not at all interfering in Iran’s affairs.â€Â

This country supports a "measured" response to this issue... So what should we measure? The number of unarmed people murdered in the steets? The lives snuffed out in the name of some imaginary being in the sky? The amount of uranium this country has stockpiled so that it can one day indulge its desire to spread terror the the four corners of the earth?

      No.

The only thing we should be measuring is number of missles, tanks and troops we send over there to send these thugs to the end they so richly deserve. To all the people of Iran who are longing for a better life: You have at least one supporter!

      RIP Neda.

    • Exactutive Compensation?

      ____

How much harm has the hub bub over executive compensation caused these last few years? Cutting back on executive salaries when times are tough is stupider than cutting advertising... As always it cost money to make money and executive compensation is such a small part of the average fortune 500's budget that cutting back and risk losing (or not being able to attract) top talent in tough times is sheer idiocy.

Sure there are cases where executive compensation is out of wack but that is an issue for the board to address... Heres a rough outline of how I would do it in most cases (specifically large established companies... Obviously each company would have to have certain tweak for the plan to make the most sense in their perticular case)):
Tie compensation not to stock price but to industry performance vs company perfomance: Company does significantly BETTER than the industry (yes even if the company is losing money) then the bosses get a raise (ie. Ford in the current climate). Do significantly WORSE and they take a pay cut (Diseny a few years ago).
As for stock options: CEOs and other execs would get the option to buy stocks at todays prices 5 years down the road... Meaning their management plans would focus farther out than they might otherwise.

I would probablky use IE more if it did a couple of the things firefox does (open all bookmarks in tabs)...

However, FF is #2, and as such, puts pressure on IE to keep impproving their product.

FF3 comes out today, I think. I might not upgrade right away, but I'm thinking I'll mostly stick with it. Seems a little less buggy.

I'm also thinking of installing their mail clients at home, too, since Netscape has stopped supporting their stuff, now.

Well, no, not all QM models are non-deterministic, but I was trying to illustrate that they do exist, as it fell contrary to that article. Which, by the by, was a very interesting and thought-provoking bit of literature.

I'm sorry sir, all I heard just now was "Blah blah blah stereotype blah blah."

Actually, Kansas is a relatively flat, rolling place. But it is also beautiful, dynamic and loaded with interesting people and cities. And while it is on the bible belt (like many other states) not everyone here is a backwards super republican/christian moron.

I read about how eventually CD's will be 1cm cubes, and I think "Fuck that, I'll lose them all within a month of buying them!"

Of course, that's probably what they want to happen - preplanned obsolescence, ya know...
